Hi Munchie Duckett… thanks for watching and welcome to the channel! To your point of career pivoting from the hospitality industry to healthcare administration, the process is doable but requires a strategy and the right cv document. In your case, I recommend you first transfer your current resume content to a functional resume template. A functional resume focuses more on highlighting your skills versus the type of jobs worked. There are many transferable skills from waitressing that can be applied to a healthcare administration job. The few skills that come to my mind is customer service, financial transactions, coordination and organization. If you would like more advice on how pivot into a healthcare administration career, feel free to set-up a meeting with me: calendly.com/forhealthscholars/career-talks-w-dr-orobosa?month=2022-11 Best of luck in your career journey!

I just found your channel and I am blown away with the amazing amount of information you have provided to us. I am so thankful to you. I am a high school senior and right now I’m looking to pursue a career in healthcare management because I found that the clinical side is not for me. My college of interest only offers a master’s degree program and doctorate degree program in healthcare management, so I’ll need to choose a different major for my undergraduate. Do you think a bachelors in public health would be suitable as a precursor to a master’s in healthcare management?

Hi Eek, Thank you for your kind words and welcome to the channel! There are several schools that offer a bachelor’s in healthcare management program. But to answer your question you can do a bachelor’s in public health and then pursue a MHA. @@eek8903 Healthcare Information Management & Healthcare Management offer different focus areas. Healthcare Information Management focus more the management of digital health products like EHR systems whereas Healthcare Management focuses on the overall management of healthcare systems. Hello Dr. I'm really appreciative for every amount of content you put out here to help out. I'm barely a week into your channel and I'm loving the knowledge and impact I'm already gaining.. However, I had my first degree in Anatomy. I wanted to go with medicine, but I've always been more particular about the administration of healthcare more than any other thing. So, I'm looking out pursing a master's in Health administration/management abroad ( I'm a Nigerian). My challenges are; most of the school's I've contacted would ask if I've had any work experience in the health sector and my answer is no.... I haven't been able to handle this still; I'm open to your advice. Also, I would really love to know Which schools to apply to abroad. I'm looking at an effective curriculum as well as affordability. Thank you for your time and response

I work on a behavioral unit as a LPN. When I got to the unit it was very unorganized and behaviors we were out of control because there was no structure. I reorganized the unit. The patients are thriving, there are less falls and injuries, and less behaviors. Even the providers told me how they see the difference on the unit and in the patients. In my mind this is all for free because I wasn’t paid to do this. I saw where the unit had needs so as the floor nurse I started evaluating the unit and reorganizing it. The things I did my Boss and Administrator approved of. I also helped the CNA’s get a routine, get organized, and get in on the same page with how I set up the unit. The providers told me personally they wanted all of the other units especially the other behavioral unit to use what I did as an example on how to better organize their units. Is this something thing I can put on my resume and under what category? I was not paid for the work I did on the unit but I feel like even now I manage the unit. Would love your thoughts.

Dr. Orobosa, Great information. I am transitioning from active duty Navy to civilian. I graduate with my MBA with a concentration in healthcare management May 2023. I have never worked in the healthcare industry but I have a lot of management experience in retail and I am the executive assistant of the commanding officer. Is this enough to be competitive in the healthcare hiring process with no actual healthcare experience?

Hi @bushuniversity2509 Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel! Between your MBA and work experience it is enough to land a healthcare job. However, you will need to up-sell your experience and show how the skills you've acquired in navy and retail industry is transferable and can support operations of healthcare organizations. I recommend you work with a recruiter to help you transition into the industry. Also, I think healthcare jobs that are focused on patient relations, logistics, supplies, sales, and administrative training may utilize your skills in a great way.
