This video was INSANELY helpful‼️I've never come across someone who explained the interview process that way. This made me realize how big of a role psychology plays in an interview. Thank you sir.
I loved your suggestion of asking the interviewer WHY they picked you? I can imagine that not too many people would be brave enough to ask that question. I also agree with what you mentioned earlier - the interview is mutual. I always try to remember that when I have interviews.
Hi. Thank you for the comment. Yes, we all tend to forget that we are also interviewing to see if we want to work there! Keeping that in mind can also reduce the natural nervousness of interviewing!
You mentioned being an introvert, I’m also an introvert & I’ve been feeling like I won’t succeed in a leadership position due to that so I steer away from applying to management roles. Idk maybe I’m not confident in my capabilities, do you have any tips?
Yes! First, understand that you are not alone. There are many other introverts like you and me who are successful! To me , it is actually a strength to be more introverted. Leadership is most effective when listening to people and engaging them. Gathering input from others and making collaborative decisions almost always leads to better plans and success. This is something for which we introverts are very well suited. So don’t sell yourself short! Challenge yourself to jump into the management jobs you are interested in and reframe what you are telling yourself - Your introvert skills are absolutely a strength for you. They can lead you to being a better leader.
This was a perfectly stated video!! Super helpful, and made me realize there is so much more to an interview than just being “interviewed.” I’m glad I was able to find your RU-vid!
I’m glad it was helpful! Yes, most candidates don’t realize that as a candidate you are also interviewing the employer just as much as they are interviewing you! Knowing this can also make interviewing a lot less stressful!
thank you so much for pointing out that we also have a right to interview them for our own sake ! i experienced the same thing with being in the hot seat and knowing right then and there that this was not the right place for me as they also gave me no chance to ask questions
I am so glad to hear you say this! I was actually just in the exact same situation myself - like you, they did not give me the opportunity to ask questions to get a feel for the fit, so I withdrew from consideration as well. I am so glad that I did. Let me know how your next interview goes!
Excellent presentation! These collection of videos are very informative. I hope to present myself in a manner as well as you do someday! Also, you made me feel more comfortable in my decision to pursue a Ph.D in I/O Psychology on top of my Masters in Healthcare Admin. I hope I can cultivate my knowledge and leadership skills to reach executive level. Anyways, thank you so much!
Hi Sarah. I’m so glad you like the videos! And that is fantastic that you are pursuing the doctorate! The career path is wide open for someone with your background! If I can help in any way please reach out anytime!
@@dr.jeffcomer5185 I would love a video on dealing with abusive work environments. I was just terminated from one and have two interviews in the morning. The tips you gave in this video will be super helpful. I feel that workers have few avenues we we are being discriminated against and abused at work. (I work as a practice manager and have a bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration. Please do a video on toxic/abusive work environments in healthcare. Thank you!!!
@@carolinehyer2042 First of all, let me say how sorry I am for the environment you were in. That is completely unacceptable. There is never, ever any excuse for employees feeling abused at work. You are certainly not alone. Many, many people have encountered that kind of atmosphere - myself included. I have a few thoughts for you, so when you get a chance contact me via my email jeffcomeraz@gmail.com. And I will absolutely work on a video for that topic. On a much more positive note, best wishes to you for your upcoming interviews tomorrow!
12:50 PRICELESS. - I LOVE the power shift. I recently gained my MBA-HCM degree but I’ve been a Registered Respiratory Therapist for 18 years. Great video. Thank you so much! ❤️
I would never have thought of asking the final question about hesitation but thanks to you I did. I was offered the position today which is a big step up from entry level to regional coordinator. Thanks for the advice.
This was such an inspiring video sir. Thank you so much for sharing such insights with us. I have a question where I am in a phase of figuring out things. My name is Zuwaina and I am a new immigrant in Vancouver, Canada. I have an MBA in (hospital and healthcare management) degree from back home (India) with around 5.5 years of experience. On getting my credentials evaluated here, I got a PG diploma valued here for my degree. I recently got the opportunity to study at University of British Columbia for the course of Masters of Healthcare Leadership and policy (Clinical education). To reach to the position of a hospital CEO, pursuing the MHLP degree would be better or starting with an entry level job in the hospital would be better? The course again is expensive and right now I haven’t gotten any jobs since the time I have landed. It’s been 2.5 months here job hunting. I was a Dentist back home and then pursued an MBA (hospital & healthcare management) and worked for 5.5 years. Sir your generous reply would help me sort out dilemmas in life and help me reach to some decision. Would be awaiting you response. So glad to have gone through your enlightening and knowledgeable videos.
Hello, I'm so glad that the videos are helpful to you. One question - what is the PG diploma? So, given what you have stated, I don't know that I see much value, given the cost, of pursuing the second master's degree. You already have the MBA, which is what you need. I would suggest you pursue jobs in a hospital. 2.5 months in a job search is not long - so, do not be discourage. The key is to network as much as you can. You will eventually find a suitable position. I do want to state that I am not an expert on the Canadian healthcare system, as it is quite different from the United States. Try to meet some CEO's at local hospitals and get their suggestions as well. Also, look into local health care associations as they can be of assistance. Finally, Linkedin is an excellent tool to network. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Thank you for such a prompt reply… PG diploma is Post graduate diploma.. I have been speaking to a few health care associations around. I hope I get some insight. Rest, I have your series to help me out with my career. Thank you for such amazing videos.
Thank you so much for this video!!!! Do you have any advice for anyone who just recently graduated with their b.s. in healthcare administration to land entry level jobs
Hi Gabrielle, you are welcome! To start, congratulations on the recent B.S. degree! I'd suggest a few things for you. First, join the ACHE (American College of Healthcare Execs), which is good for networking. They also have local regions of people you can contact. Second, work with your B.S. school's alumni network - reach out to some of those people and see if they can help with recommendations for jobs or other people they can introduce you too. Third, volunteer at a local hospital. That can get your foot in the door to meet leaders at the hospital. Fourth, start searching on Linkedin. For example, if there is a hospital where you'd like to work, reach out to people on Linkedin who work there and network with them. You would be amazed at how much people want to help a new grad such as yourself! We have all been there. These are just a few things off the top of my head. I hope they help. Also, be patient, job searches can be frustrating! I've been there too! Please stay in touch and let me know how the search is going.
Dr. Comer, I watched all of your videos and worked to incorporate your ideas into my CEO interview. As part of a final slate of three the competition was stiff and the multiple interview format a challenge. I wanted to come back and say thank you and report that I got the job! I appreciate your efforts and perspective provided on this channel, please make more videos. Best, Michael
@@michaelhassell545 That is fantastic! Critical access and small community hospitals are what I enjoy the most. They are so important to the community in so many respects. Congratulations to you!
@@dr.jeffcomer5185 I'm excited, so much potential, obvious need, great people. Thanks again for your videos and perspective, it genuinely helped a lot!
Thank you for this.. just graduated with my MBA with a emphasis in Healthcare Management.. although I have more training ahead of my I’m interviewing for Admin in Training positions..
Hello! This video was wonderful. I am a prospective student applying to graduate school for a Masters in Health Administration. I have an interview with one of the schools this upcoming Monday and the tips in this video were so helpful. If possible would you be able to make a video on what you went through interviewing with schools and or tips for interviewing for graduate programs in general. This would help me immensely as I am very nervous. Thanks again this video was very helpful!
Hi Veronica! Thank you for the comment! I'm so excited for your interview next week! I'm glad my video helped. My best advice for you is to just be yourself! I know that sounds simple but it's the best thing you can do! At this point, since you have an interview you clearly have the GPA, GMAT, background, etc, that the school is looking for - so, the interview is mainly to make sure that you are a good fit and that your career goals align with their focus. You are in a great spot! And remember that all interviews are two way streets - you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Please let me know how it goes! And yes, I will work on some videos along those lines. I can't get them done by next week but will get a few out soon. Again, be yourself and enjoy meeting the people at the program!
@@dr.jeffcomer5185 I am currently at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth, Texas for my MHA! Everything went great! The program is most definitely a challenge but I have learned a tremendous amount over the last two months! These videos are so informative I have shared them with a lot of my classmates too! thank you!
@@TheMonkeydoodaa That is wonderful! Congratulations! That is an excellent program and school. I'm glad the videos are helpful and thank you for sharing them! You have chosen a wonderful career path. Enjoy the graduate school experience. I miss those days so much! Please stay in touch and keep me posted on your progress.
Great tips thank you for sharing! What if when you ask why they picked you, what if they respond with "we're interviewing all applicants" do you push the question?
Hi Jonathan. That's great! Good luck. If I may make a couple of suggestions - first, just be yourself, and second, remember that you are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. Doing those two things can really reduce the stress of interviewing! Let me know how it goes!
Invaluable perspective to reduce the stress during interviews! Thank you ever so much Doc for helping boost my confidence for a job interview tomorrow.
@@dr.jeffcomer5185That interview went great, but i wasn't selected. i bagged another role i applied for Doc💫🙏☺ feeling grateful for how profoundly your tips helped me.
