Fabulous. Truly did this car justice. This model, was the first Matchbox I bought with my own money when I was a child. 75¢ in about 1968/9 at Cope's Drugstore. Great work!
It's very typical for all hot wheels and matchbox toy cars; to be having no side windows, I used brass or silver sheet metal to add side windows. Side windows for all plastic car models.
WOW... that is absolutely transformative. I know this is more of a customization than a restoration as the details you added were never part of the original offering, but you improved this 1,000 percent. The details that you added to this casting really makes it stand out... next time... do the plate as well and it will be complete. Another great job.
Hi Rob. Turned out great. I worked in the electronics industry years ago, part of my job was making printed circuit boards, the board we used was light sensitive allowing us to use uv light to transfer the circuit to the board. We used sodium hydroxide to develop the image before etching away the unwanted copper. You might be able to find what you need from an electronics supplier.
Turned out absolutely stunning, the difference between night and day, great detailing, like you say, such a simple car but so very attractive and looks 100 times better without the roof rack, really nice work👌👍😊
Been wanting to remove the roof rack on one of these since I was a kid. I thought the luggage was neat, but the casting was so cool looking. Probably the 1st Italian car I fell in love with, no offense Ferrari.
I love that car, my uncle had one until 1987, loved it was a beautiful car, and very economic and comfortable, easy to handle. Did a good job in restoring it and nice details too. Hope that I can get it
So many of those Fiats with the empty roof racks.... never thought of shaving it off. It looks pretty good without it. That blue makes it really pop too.
That one is fantastic. I’ve got one of these in the same condition as yours originally. Wonder if it could pass off as a Plymouth Valiant in a custom? Painted orange to double as the car in the movie ‘Duel’ they’ve got a similar boxy shape. Nice one Rob.
As the Great Gonzo would say..... WOW WHAT A FINISH. Excellent job Rob I've said it once and I'll say it again I love these old castings. Memories of when I was a kid my school teacher had one of these in 1969 bloody hell I'm getting old!👴but I feel like this👦well my wife does call me a big kid lol.
Looks great. The only thing I would change is on the rear bumper, I would have like to see JB weld there to fill in where the tow hook was. All in all, an excellent job.
Beautiful work! It occurs to me that the car would look really good as a taxicab. Even with the roof rack still on, I could visualize it with a taxi sign on , and small tasteful company logo on the sides...
Bloody hell I'm lacking behind here. With being ill and decorating my house top to bottom, my youtube time has been scarce. Time for matchbox Garage marathon to catch up
Rob, first I want to say, I'm sorry for your loss. It's hard to replace a good glove like that but the right one will come along again someday soon. The car came out beautiful. I don't think it could have came out any better. Stay safe.
Amazing job! Absolutely fantastic. I love it. I thought that the base was metal on all these old Matchbox cars. I thought plastic bases first was introduced in the nineties. I would probably have added detail to the number plate in the back and painted the black and the letters silver or white. But I still love the that little car
Looks absolutely beautiful in that colour, Rob. I think that the Fiat was the first model made by Lesney to feature a plastic base. The luggage on top always annoyed me, too, and it was quickly removed and 'lost'. You can't always be going on holiday! Unlike the Land Rover Safari, where the gear on top was essential.
