Fiat 500 restoration project: Part 2 welding in a floor pan replacement

In this episode on the restoration of the 1970 Fiat 500 I cut out the passenger floor pan, trim to fit and plug weld back into place. Rain stopped play before I was able to complete the patch panels for the base of the inner arch, so next time i'll finish that off, replace the lower half of the outer sill and finish weld it all into place.

Interesting video. 👍🏼 It's a great idea to wear thick leather gauntlets when cutting panels with the disk, as doing so produces razor-sharp swarf edges. I've slashed my palms multiple times in the past before realising any harm is occurring.

Yeah i do often wear my welding gloves when cutting stuff and grinding, i wear a mask when sanding with a flap disc too, just not here

Hi Tim, I’m about to replace the floor on my Fiat 500, I bought the panels, now thinking of tops and such to buy. What was the make of the hole punch you used as I would like to replicate the spot weld effect. Thanks

@@FoxSpeedshop no problem, i have limited welding experience but keen to develop my skills in this area. I plan to use a mig with.6mm wire, I assume that’s the correct gauge for this type of work?

I tend to use mig with 0.8mm steel wire and tri-mix gas, usually Hobbyweld
