Welcome to this #Kaeve Highlight video on the #cardesign icon that is called the #Fiat #Ritmo. The Ritmo is a small, front-engine, front-wheel drive family car manufactured by Fiat. It was launched in April 1978 at the Turin Motor show and offered in 3- and 5-door hatchback and cabriolet body styles. This car is an pre facelift early model, from '78.

1983 Diesel CL my father bought in 1990. Amazing 1.7 D developing astonishing 55Bhp🤭. But I loved it. In 1991 at the age of 14 I learned to drive cars on it😉

I've been eagerly awaiting that one. In my own opinion the Ritmo is an underappreciated design classic, inside and out. It's the Olivetti Lettera 32 of cars :)

So your point about creating visual Mass in the surfacing to imply that the structure has some strength is what is likely missing on the current Mercedes-Benz models.

Well spotted. Indeed this is an issue. Bar the fact the MB team sadly seems to have lost all connection to their past. Which, being the inventor of the car, is quite a daft way of going about, one could argue. The point being that this incredible heritage of MB needs to be visible in their design, needs to be communicated through design. One of the "tricks" communicating a feeling of solidity and strenght is through the facets pointed out in this Fiat design. Thanks for tuning in! Great video, nice discussion on the critical elements of the external design, pity you didn't show the interior and the dash - the choke handle was novel in the way it was hinged in the dash moulding. The piano backing track is very loud over your voice - I don't think your videos need music on them!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We’re trying to keep the videos to relatively short spans. Maybe next time we should go for a separate video on the interior.
