Mitch Is that a 'what I ride' Robert August longboard I see on the porch? 😎 Nice build, looking at a Glass boat this weekend, great ideas, I used to shape/make surfboards so working with polyester resin is almost second nature, welding aluminum not so much, so we might jump over to glass for a stronger easier to repair platform even though its heavier. Thanks for the kind words! It’s a harbour longboard out of seal beach California! Close though. Yeah as much as I like the aluminum boat platform for its lightweight and rigidity on lakes and rivers when coming in contact with stumps, fiberglass is much easier to work with. Keep me updated on what you end up going with and what direction your taking the boat! My pops is ironically from Michigan as well 🤙

I'm restoring a similar boat, and it also has a through haul live well. It makes me nervous and have been thinking of just patching the hole. Can you make a video showing how that works? I can't seem to find any videos on it.

Ha, this was a surprise I believe I just bought one of these boats yesterday , and was looking on you tube for ideas on how I want to make it into a mini flats boat , I’m still waiting for the title to be sent to me so I don’t know who the manufacturer is but it looks exactly the same , I got the boat and trailer for $250 bucks 👍 it does need the transom replaced , but that’s easy to fix , I’ll probably remove the mid seat in it as it is a dry storage area , I’ll put a front casting deck on it and maybe a removable aft deck , I’ve looked around and found this by chance, how are you liking yours , I’ll be fishing alone so it should be plenty of room and storage , I can’t wait to get started 👍😄

Sounds like you got a good deal on it! I love mine! Sure it’s not a full fledged flats boat, but it has a live well, and is perfect for fishing calmer water or sandbar hopping. It’s a fun small boat. Keep me posted on your progress, would like to see how it turns out! 🙌

That’s going to be a great build! What kind of motor on you throwing on it? Also in regards to potential trolling motor mounts, I’m curious what you come up with. I’m toying with that right now

@@LFTLivefortoday MotorGuide X3 trolling motor my front cast deck will be almost flush to the top rail..I have a small 6 horse power..I mostly fish small rivers and lakes in Alabama.

Can you explain the livewell? How do holes in the bottom of the boat not keep you from sinking?

Of course! Even though there are holes in the bottom of the boat, the boat itself displaces enough water, and is buoyant enough that the volume that fills that live well isn’t enough to sink the boat. Also, As long as the boat is in water, that live well will be continuously be supplied with a “fresh” supply of water without sinking the boat.

Yall mentioned a 65 Johnson 9.5 my brother has one his 12 ft aluminum semi v it isn't particularly fast but it's been a fine motor for him only ever had to to do routine maintenance to it

@@LFTLivefortoday I just acquired a 75 ish sears eska 5 HP motor it runs but needs some carb work there will be videos on the channel if y'all care to come by the channel also I have a video on an sears gamefisher/Tanaka outboard I found a newly manufactured carb for it even though no game fisher parts are being manufactured anymore looking forward to seeing y'all in the comments

🌴 Hey Mitch, just giving ya an up date on project nano flats skiff ! “ It was a wonderful day today!” 🎉 I got the registration and title all worked out on the boat& trailer 👍🏼 and I’m getting my 1977 15 hp Johnson refurbished ( fixing all the bad stuff🤣) the little boat should rip with that 15 on it , I can now start redoing the hull configuration and working on the trailer ( it’s been so hot out & rain 😧) , did you paint your skiff yet? Have ya been doing any fishing?

@@LFTLivefortoday , glad to hear your working on putting some color on the Cacci , yesterday at the DMV , they printed me out a title for my boat with HIN # numbers , so today I’m off to harbor freight to get some metal stamps to make an ID ,HIN plate to be able to affix to the hull , and find a piece of alum , have you figured out what color your painting the hull yet , are you going to roll the paint or spray ?

🌴 Hey Mitch how you doing ! I’ve got an important question for you , our boats were built before 1972 , which means they didn’t have ( HIN#’s ) Hull identification numbers stamped into the hull when they were made by Cacci craft , ask dad how he got his registration and title numbers at the DMV as I have to do this to register my boat so I can put a motor on it , would appreciate any help 👊🏼👍

He was given the title when he picked the boat up almost 30 years ago from a neighbor. So do your best to find the title if you don't already have it.

@@LFTLivefortoday ya the guy I bought the boat from got the boat from a neighbor but the neighbor moved so I have no way to try and find the title , the only other clue I have is it has old registration numbers on the front of the hull but if the original owner moved it doesn’t due me any good 🤔 all I’ve got is a bill of sale from the guy I bought it from 😟

The wood and glass has been great so far! I wouldn’t change what was done in that regard. This coming week or two I will be doing another top coat on the inside and finally refinishing the exterior hull.

My old man had those saved from a while ago, not sure from what. However you can buy them on Amazon for pretty cheap-blocks of it and cut it to your specs

Thank you for the clarification, when I did the build I wasn’t sure and Jon boat seemed like a general, blanket sort of term for smaller tiller boats. Stoked to have gotten it up and in the water again though regardless 🤙🏼

@@LFTLivefortoday Yes, great boat! Front half cuts through the water and the back half flattens out for stability. A Jon is flat bottom the whole length for shallow waters and barge-like stability. Square bow. A jon can be any length. 😀
