RU-vid wouldn't allow me to remove the beginning now that it has so many views. Created another with the jingle edited out. (Was a initially done as a joke for a class project, never expected I'd get so many views!)
Beginning is corny. . . But the video is very informative. Brief description of the Fiberglass Manufacturing processes: Pultrusion, Gun Roving, Filament Winding (helical winding). As well as fiberglass applications.
Fiberglass Grating vs Steel Grating : Watch this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDePg9...

Best intro to an engineering video I've ever seen 10/10 would chuckle again

Super interesting, had no idea how fibreglass was made. So I learnt heaps, thanks. Also that intro is hilarious, cracked me up. Hopefully you got an A for this assignment.

Thanks for making the video! I'm taking a class on composites and watching a video on how glass fiber is manufactured is much better than looking at a diagram of the machine!

Good video on how fiberglass products are made but kind of lite on the actual source product - the fibers. All in all a good intro to fiberglass manufacturing techniques. I'll keep looking for a good video on how fiber strands are made. Thanks.

No video for a duct rodder specifically. But the process used to make the long flexible rod is called "pultrusion" and there are a number of other videos on the web that describe this process,

+Mike Rohren Thanks for the feedback. Intro was part of a joke for a class project. I never imagined this video would get this many views. I may edit that out one day as I think there is some truth to your statement.
@aussienik
@aussienik 7 лет назад
Lol... Nathan, I can understand the joke part but if you look at it, even after a long time people are coming to your video because google is suggesting it. True, the intro is a big pain in the a___... would have thought of navigating away however I choosed to mute it and see if it was still there after few seconds... Thank God!! I think you should not sit on it and make sure you just trim or mute the intro and let your video stay - WHY?? Because it is informative and Google is suggesting it.
@n8ander
@n8ander 7 лет назад
Good point. I made the attempt to edit it. I both attempted to simply trim out the first few seconds, as well as mute the first few seconds. RU-vid wouldn't allow it saying it has too many views. Some googling revealed that at this point there are still SOME edits that can be made, such as blurring out a portion of the screen, but I didn't find any good ideas for how to fix the beginning without having to simple edit it and save it as a new separate video. Any ideas on how I can fix this current one? Thanks for the feedback!

+SEU I would liked to have included that in this video but there is very little video content available on line. If you want to watch how it works. Google "how fiber optics are made" as the process is somewhat similar. For an explanation of how fibers are made see here: www.madehow.com/Volume-2/Fiberglass.html

Nathan Andersen They are nothing similar but thank you for the info. Glass wool is spun like cotton candy creating millions of continuous fibers entangled. Fiber optics draw a single thread laminated with several reflective layers in it meaning it has a transparent core and several layers surrounding it to refract the beam and create transmission.. I found one video and linked it but you removed. Way to go greedy buddy. Censorship 101. Can I get a ZERO like hell yeah?

Why I'm teaching this guy shit when he removed my links to answer someone? Look up "Glass wool Insulation Manufacturing Process" and click on the link showing molten glass being poured... I'm sure this will be removed too over jealousy being commented on ONE YEAR LATER!

Beams and generally most things that have the same profile across their length are done using pultrusion.
@n8ander
@n8ander 11 лет назад
There aren't any specifically about doing duct rodder. But, Here are a few about pultrusion, which is the process for making the rods used in duct rodders. (RU-vid won't allow me to put the links in this comment) I have posted them instead in the video description at the end "Links to Videos about Pultrusion"

Idk why but I love working with this stuff. We work with 450 and 900 mat's as well as woven and it's so fun to piece it together and watch the end product come out all sleek and clean. it's a pain when you have millions of particles all over your clothes though :/ lol.

I don’t think it is extruded as such, The fibres are too small. I once read that the molten glass is blasted with compressed air and the resulting “fibres” are bundled into a strands of fibres and then woven like explained in this video. May be wrong but extruding glass will not give the fibres the parallel grain that fibreglass materials have. Good footage of woven mat machinery
@n8ander
@n8ander 3 года назад
you are correct about the high pressure airstream through molten glass. but there are a few different ways of creating the glass fibers depending on what their intended use is. fiberglass insulation is created in the way you describe in a system that is very similar to how cotton candy is made. fiberglass used for fiber optics is a single extruded and coated strand of glass in a highly controlled process. I’m no expert, just provided a few basic examples of common fiberglass manufacturing techniques. thanks for watching!
