i think those characters existed before the video, but i think you might be right in the sense that there’s no lore for them (or at least not much). most of the lore is directed at hat and chicken guy i think
Just wanted to point out all the bird symbolism, and the shots of Aveline dancing in a cage, she's a caged bird. Seems like she has plenty of musical talent, but the poster says she's "the last voice on earth" so the show biz refuses to let go of her. They keep her chained with drugs and alcohol, and all the while she's in love with this mohawk dude. He doesn't feel the same, so he stays in her fantasies, just out of reach. There's also a poppy and candles 0:55 , has to be death of someone she cared about. That's all the surface stuff I can think of.
I thought the candle was still referencing to drugs since it's needed to cook heroin. And some poppy seed based-food can lead to postive urine drug test for opiates.
I love this cover! i noticed the title and i looked it up, apparently a fictophile is someone who’s attracted to fictional characters throughout the video, Aveline is drawing the other guy a lot, and they tend to be in more romantic scenarios, but it’s obvious that that’s not exactly what he wants(?). It’s like Aveline is in love with a relationship that’s not real! It’s a cool little detail i wanted to mention!
another comment said this song might be about escapism using autistic imagination. the title makes a lot of sense this way, saying that that other character is literally just a figment of their imagination.
@@weirdibibfishiplop3644 although this would make sense, you can see the same guy in the crowd watching her at the start, and iirc he appears in other animation as well.
@@ChezBurger_97 you need to be on a device with a keyboard attached First you pause the video and then press the comma and period keys to flip through the frames individually
@@thesageofspringrollsoupyou can also technically look through each frame slowly by using the precise seeking function by putting ur finger on the red dot and pulling it on while it's there
As someone who has practically lived off of fictional crushes for years... It can feel like a high when it hits just right, and it can get you through stressful times, but it can also feel so...emotional. Like you're standing in a wedding dress, sobbing, wishing for a future with someone who you can barely hug. This is a fantastic animation to stumble onto.
I see it as a defense mechanism. Your interpretation of the character is an extension of yourself. To be able to tell yourself to keep moving is needed in an increasingly isolated world. Seeming unified, but breaking apart inside is worse than seeming separate, but being unified inside. Heck, you could even call it an art form.
This song and animation really spoke to me. The animation and song are very nice. (Infodump warning) I'm autistic, and tend to have a rich inner world where I like to spend my time. A lot of the time I wish I could live there and daydream about being a character in whatever I'm reading/watching/creating. I can't quite put it into words, so all I'll say is this: Thank you for creating this, and I hope I'll be able to make something as brilliant someday.
She said it's not my fault That it all fell down So close your windows, lock your doors I can't help feeling I'm forgetting something You used to paint me pictures now You only paint my wall I'm worried that I've started something Built on lies and alcohol I want to sit down on the floor Become a worn out metaphor But still there's something, probably nothing That brings a phaser to my door I used to count the times that I've woken up past ten I tell myself what's done is done But I know that I'll drink next week again I suggest we let things rest Till I come down or until you drown Cause you're all I've got left in this town And I need time and you need wine So grab a jacket, grab your phone I've heard it's pretty cold outside I suggest we let things rest Till I come down or until you drown Cause you're all I've got left in this town And I need time and you need wine So grab a jacket, grab your phone I've heard it's pretty cold outside
I think one meaning is that Aveline needs time to get over her fictional crush, while mohawk man needs wine to, even falsely, feel for her and fall into her like in the animation.
yeah, but to be fair thats also the lyrics for the cover that this song is, which is first and ten by mom jeans. Which may be a cover of something else? im not too sure though.
I'm shocked that almost no one in the comments is talking about all of the visual references to using heroin. At 0:58 for a split-second, you can see a spoon with bubbling liquid and a lighter underneath. Also, there is a quick shot of a syringe and bandages, and possibly a poppy flower (what heroin is made from). The main character here is also seen with injuries all over her arms at the end of the animation. Brilliant animation by the way. I think these visuals fit the theme of addiction to escape perfectly.
they're the type of person you compare yourself to and you feel sad but you know you shouldnt feel sad but you still feel pretty sad about it either way
1:21 if you go frame by frame there’s a very VERY quick flash of hat with a gun to his head… I am so curious about this lore EDIT: it’s actually around 1:18 to 1:19 sorry yall
This is what i imagine a cartoon looks like in the Scott Pilgrim comics. Also HOLY SHIT fucking BEAUTIFUL art. Stellar animation. I love the character designs. This made my day as weird as that might sound.
You know what time it is !!! Time to analyze: . At the beginning, "Aveline" (in quotes because I think Aveline represents you, or at least a part of you) is clearly a performer. She enjoys it, she's having a blast she's up in the air about it, getting drunk and being reckless. Around about 40 seconds, Aveline is trying to sleep cuz she needs to rest from this whole thing. However, she is dragged out of bed by a cane that kinda reminds me of a one that a Ring Leader would own, pulled back to perform when she really doesn't want to. Not too long after, she's on stage, and the attention that she thought she so enjoyed was overwhelming, too many people watching except one that was seen earlier, kinda looking apathetic? Bored? Whatever the emotion is, he doesn't give that same attention to Aveline like everyone else; however, you could argue that he doesn't really give her any attention at all, or at least not the type that she wants? Not too sure about that. Because in the video, he does give her attention on some romantic level, but it seems almost base level. She continues to perform tho it's wearing her out. She gets into some sort of relationship with the guy; she's getting attention but she's not getting the type she really needs. It hurts, she's in a wedding dress, she loves this dude so much like she could marry him, yet all he can do is give a blank face and hug her, and he isn't in a tux. The feelings are not mutual in terms of intensity. Also, he doesn't seem very talkative at all !! All she can do is keep on doing what she does even tho it's killing her on the inside. It's all she has left in this life of hers, and even though it hurts and it sucks, what else can she truly turn to, yk? _Fictophilia, fictosexuality and fictoromance - the intense and enduring emotional attachment, love, infatuation or desire that individuals experience for fictional characters._ I can see this in two ways. One, Aveline is attracted to someone (the guy) who is not real and is in her head. A figment of someone she can't even properly imagine but it gives her a very small semblance of balance in her life. But because he is not real, she knows she cannot truly be with him, which is why he is not very talkative or expressive, because those words and expressions would not be real, but god she wishes they were. Two, this person is real but not ... 'real' in the sense that they can properly have a connection. She just has an image of who this person really is and knows nothing else about them/cannot connect to them on a deeper level. They feel fictional. Fake. Real but fake. Either which way, though, this person is kind of an escape in a backhanded kind of way to run away from the reality of repetitive, draining, stressful performance. But ... yk. It's kinda backfired, I guess? From how I see her crying hard trying to get him to understand how she feels . Naturally, I will transpose this analysis to ... well, I think you know me well enough to know what it is I'm going to be thinking of with this information. Hat. Ik we have not spoken in a while but I still think about you, I'm glad you're still around, and I really hope that you can truly feel better. My discord is always open
I went to go chop vegetables and realized that I forgot that uhhhh Discord isn't really a thing right now, huh--- WELL!! Instagram is still there. Plus, if you ever decide to return to Discord, my point stands. Man, why is it so cold in Norway in the SUMMER
First time i watched it i thought her relationship was real. but its strike me when i realize that he was fictional and she was all alone dying by overdosing. Man.
this video triggered a euphoric reaction in me. words can't describe how much I absolutely adore this song, and this animation. truly, it is one of the best videos I have ever watched on this website. I wish to make something half as incredible as this video one day. god I need more music like this 😭 ITS SOOOO GOOOOOOOOOOD OMGGGGGGGG
This song cover is actually based off of two other songs that are similar, funnily enough. If your want more like it search up the song, "First and Ten" . That song is also based off another older song called "Re-Do". They're both great and I hope you like them too 😁
This is some of the best animation I've seen in a while. I love how the characters turn from sketchy notebook art into proper clean animation and back again.
This is such an incredible animation omg, I'm so happy it popped up in my recommended. I'm gonna go spend the next half hour watching this on repeat, don't mind me-
i dont see enough comments talking about how smooth and detailed the video is!!! the cover is amazing and the animation style is so captivating! i love the camera movements ITS SO GOOD!!!!!
ive been watching this. numerous times.... holy guac it is awesome what i noticed is that in 0:27 aveline somewhat pushes someone away while hitting his hand with the wine glass(???), the part about this is its most likely the mohawk guy, judging on the sleeve 1:08 here he BRIEFLY tried to grab onto her arms before letting loose with that "feel bad" face... based on the entirety of the song, aveline struggles to consistently show her stage persona during performance, leaving her to cope in various ways while sucking up shes stuck in this contract off scene. in a way, he cares about her mental health enough to show up just to make sure shes okay during performance, explaining the cameo at the beginning, and wanted to confront her about her addictions during the cage scene. "im worried that i started something, built on lies and alcohol" but aveline is always unreachable one way or another that she always managed to push him away, only crying in his arms after the effects wore off. he feels bad hes fully aware of everything, even worse is that hes not sure if he can do anything to help other than provide company as he watches her destroy herself!
Yk, i posted a whole analysis and it just occurred to me that I never told you how i feel about the animation itself I've ben watching yo shit for the past 3 to 4 years (crazy), and every time you come out with something, there's something improved and more polished. The animation is literal eye candy and I'm proud of you
Randomly found this channel and now I'm exploring your website, the amount of passion that went into this and some of the website I've explored made me so intrigue of your work! Definitely finding a song of yours I could cover!
ive watched this on loop so many times its so perfect from the cover to the way the hair is colored and how it transitions from one scene to another aaaaaaaa
The terrifying, bittersweet embrace of a waking dream, in requiem. Always a cold reality- But perhaps a connection slowly creeping us further away from the material world, but far closer to a “truth”. Thank you for this. 😌
God the animation is absolutely gorgeous, I’ve gone through this frame by frame a few times to really take it all in and EIJJDNGJISDNGIJSNDINGUIS ITS INCREDIBLE!! Everything is so bouncy and smooth & the black and white colour palette is so striking! And the music is fantastic as well! Did you sing the cover yourself? I tried looking it up after first watching this but I couldn’t find it anywhere
I love the song but what happened with your cover of “Head” by Jeff Rosenstock. I couldn’t find it everywhere. Not on NG your archive playlist, or the internet archive. I love your cover of the song and im sad that I can’t find it. Is there an archive of it somewhere that I don’t know about? Ps: I tried the website for anything and there’s nothing, also Apple Music and Spotify had nothing
fictophile is a- Intense attraction for sexual or romantic desirer towards fictional characters you can kinda see this in the song with the artist getting really stressed out about the band, so the cope with their own stress they're crushing on the fictional character being the spiked hair which you can see at the end on the drawings, think the name fits!!
you put so much effort into your videos its admirable. i love your work so much, the vibes, the art, the animation, its literally amazing. i don't understand why you don't have a mil subs already, this is amazing.
this cover is so good- it keeps getting stuck in my head ever since it was first posted, i quite like it more than the original (not a diss, i just like the sound of this one better)
Wow, I can’t do anything but admire this. I can’t even imagine the amount of work. Pardon my ignorance but I believe that if this was made by a single person (you, literalhat) it could have taken at least a year or something. (Tbh definitely more than that, since when have you been cooking this?). It is very nice.
Theory, Aveline is jealous of Hat. from what Aveline sees, Hat is happy and content with the Chicken guy ( who kinda reminds me of the the guy in this video weirdly enough) and she despises Hat for having the close, albeit one-sided, relationship with him. I think her feelings are represented in a short shot of Hat with a gun to his head. In a previous video, Hat is not only shown to have Aveline’s ID, but also an inspiring message from her in a book. So it’s possible that Aveline and Hat are related, and her knowing about Chicken guy wouldn’t be unlikely. Anyway, Aveline’s “ love” doesn’t seem to reciprocate her feelings whatsoever, and this is also shown with one scene where Aveline is in a bride’s dress. I believe that Aveline’s dress indicates her strong feelings towards the guy but the reason he isn’t wearing a suit is because he doesn’t feel that way. My theory is only a partial bit of this video, as Aveline is indicated to be stuck in her musical career . She is perceived as the last voice on earth, and therefore she’s controlled by many people who more than likely just view her as nothing, until shes of use. It could also just be that shes grown to dislike her musical talent and is no longer passionate ( her feeling stuck in that she maybe feels she will disappoint everyone? ) Oh and Aveline tells the guy that he’s all she’s got, however it seems that even he is failing her Sorry for the long comment, if I said anything wrong feel free to correct me!
I think Aveline was already dead by the time Hat even met Chicken Man (Levi, his real name.) That's probably why he was so gloomy by the time they met.
