I'm sure even self proclaimed black-thumbs know what bonsai tree this is. Yes, I'm talking about the very unique ever so overlooked "generic" bonsai tree, the Ficus microcarpa "ginseng." Chances are, even if you are brand new to this hobby you have had one at some point, or know someone who has had one of these beautiful trees. In this video not only do I attempt to talk you in to acquiring one of these perfect potted plant pals, but I also show you how I care for my beautiful, young specimen. Be sure to watch the entire video so you can know how to keep your tree happy and healthy. After all some Ficus trees can live a thousand years! Plant Prudently!

Thanks for the tips and what not. I have a microcarpa given to me three years ago which has grown into a beautiful tree with an inverted pyramid shape, so while not known for a distinct crown, the species is quite capable of growing one. Yes, the species is very forgiving and will survive periods of low light, and moisture. Mine lives in a sunny window except for a couple of months each winter when it needs some artificial light. This is also an easy species to propagate, although cuttings from the root stock will not resemble the grafted branches. Have some cuttings growing in water now from the grafted (microcarpa) branches. Anxious to see how the will grow. Cheers! 🙏🪴💯

I am definitely what I would call a "Black thumb". I have mine since 2016....my longest living houseplant. It is definitely durable and resilient for people like me. :)

good to have some back ground of this plant. no idea what one mine is. but Saying its a Fucus ...... something.... lol... Can i say something and hope you dont take offence. Your Very easy to listen to and that one reason i stayed on your post. But i couldnt see the plants themselves. which is really important to me. Maybe push the other lovely plants to one side once your talk begingins and maybe lighter clothing so the plant can be seen. Im really desperaate to salvage my plant and your info helps. So many thanks from England, and continue the good chat.

Love your videos! I have two golden gate ficuses and a jaboticaba bonsai. I absolutely love them. One ficus is a smaller one that I bought when my daughter was born and I have a large one that my fiancée purchased for me on Christmas! These trees have a special place in my heart.

Ive had one for over a year now. While most people desire their trunks to appear curvy and "feminine", I wanted a more "masculine" specimen. I searched for months, and then I found him... Ron Jeremy, with his big thighs and dangly schlong. It makes me giggle every time I look at him. It took me a few months to realize he hates drying out, but we get along quite well now. I would like to know the best way to coax him to produce more foliage though- it's a little thin... Then again, his balding pattern DOES match his namesake. 🤔😆

If it's fully indoors, then how often do I water? I heard if you stick the tip of your finger in and it's moist you should wait, the surface is dry but one finger tip in it's moist.

Hi can you do an update on grow lights to include the new full spectrum white lights like Sansi brand please? Those purple ones you have linked aren't great for plants overall health and are horrible on the human eye weird to have in your lounge
@ShadowsEcho1990
@ShadowsEcho1990 2 года назад
In my experience, the purple ones work great for already-established, somewhat tropical plants, such as Episcia, Ficus Elastica, and Syngonium. It's not so great for succulents, but when you find plants who DO enjoy it, they'll absolutely flourish. :)
@tomjones2157
@tomjones2157 2 года назад
@@ShadowsEcho1990 I've seen the studies that say plants absolutely need green light spectrum for longterm plant "immunity" aka disease resistance but not only that, also fragrance and other volatile scents a healthy plant that will live a full long life needs. EG basil grown under these lights does not smell like basil and taste bad. My Ficus Elastica, and Syngonium. and did not "absolutely flourish" under purple grow lights but really took off under white spectrum light. Also my scented orchids only had a scent under the white lights and not the purple. My friends with purple lights have plants that always seem to have some disease or another getting into some disease or another or dying, unless they also have alot of natural light to top up the purple light deficiencies which you may have.
@tomjones2157
@tomjones2157 2 года назад
@@ShadowsEcho1990 Also, I've seen African Violet growers trials of the purple vs white lights and the development is slow and stunted in the purple lights with problems showing in morphology and healthy plants in the white light.
@ShadowsEcho1990
@ShadowsEcho1990 2 года назад
@@tomjones2157 Yes of course all plants need full spectrum, perhaps I should have noted that my purple light is close to a window, therefore theyre still getting supplemented by natural sunlight. But my question is, if many people arent aware of this, why on earth do they sell them? 🤔
@tomjones2157
@tomjones2157 2 года назад
@@ShadowsEcho1990 Yes, your plant has natural light so that is why deficiency doesn't show up, its not that the purple light is just fine, its that the plant is getting enough of the other wavelengths from the natural light and the extra boost from the purple. The reason why they sell these purple lights is obvious. Its way waaay cheaper to make a purple light with just 2 wavelengths rather than multiple wavelengths of a white light for a complete plant diet. Also marketing, when they realised that they could mass produce cheap lights that can force vegetative and flowering growth with blue and red wavelengths then of course people want to buy and play with them, particularly those who can't get plants to flower well. The only problem is it weakens plants if they don't also get natural light. I'm hoping they will explore full spectrum white light options on this channel, particularly for those in apartments who have bathrooms with no windows and very low light in other room so have to rely on the grow light for all their needs.
