This presentation is direct from the Lacrosse Goalie Summit 3 which took place March 3-6, 2021.
In this session Coach Damon walks you through all the required and optional equipment that is needed to play the position of lacrosse goalie. This session is really for beginners to give them an overview of what type of gear they need to play goalie.
I also give some other equipment tips along the way and show you how you can save a few bucks while outfitting your lacrosse goalie because let's face it - lacrosse equipment is expensive.

Hi Coach Damon, my name is Kerry McGaffney from Vancouver Canada. I have been playing box goalie and field goalie for the last 40 years :) Yes I am 55 and still playing goal in field and box for master leagues here in Canada. We do send road teams to tournaments in Hawaii and Vail once in a while. I appreciate your RU-vid channel and am learning lots on how to teach younger goalies the art of playing goal. Keep up the great work

I find it fun to talk about gear. What would be your thoughts on having manufacturers designing a field lacrosse chest protector with similar or better protection than a box lacrosse chest protector?

@@LaxGoalieRat also on another note, would you recommend having goalies use the hockey goalie padded shirt under the chest protector for added protection?

@@350stonewall Yeah it can give you some bicep and shoulder protection. But of course at the expense of mobility so each goalie will have to judge for themselves.

Just a question can you use hockey goalie helmets in lacrosse? (What is the rule / regulation for helmets)

You can't. Rule says you must use same helmet as team. Bummer because ice hockey helmets would protect a lot more.

@@LaxGoalieRat interesting also why in box lacrosse the goalie gets to wear ice hockey goalie equipment but regular lacrosse they wear what you showed in your video. It doesn’t really make sense to me since it looks to be the same ball being used in both sports

Max is newest model, more advanced protection, higher price tag.

WHat is best for a 3 year and first year goalie as far as mesh ... Semi soft or semi hard?

It’s honestly personal preference. I’d go with semi soft mesh. It’ll be good for learning soft hands since it’ll absorb a lot of the impact from the shot. There are lots of brands to look at and a few different diamond shape. I recommend looking on the mesh dynasty website, there you can find a lot of different options and colors.
