I've now seen everyone of your videos and all I can say is great job Dan! I've been an amateur prospector for 25 years and I still learned a few things I didn't know from your videos. I really hope our paths cross one day. Jason, Abbotsford, BC

In Colorado, I found that using a couple of strong magnets off old speakers, one on the bottom of the input side of the sluice and then use another small one in the pan one to separate black magnetite, or we also use one in our wash bucket to grab iron. It really helps a lot. Reduces the amount of non gold material real easy. Using one to separate the fine black from the gold by rubbing it on the bottom of the plastic pan to pull the magnetic particles away from the gold.

I use a sheet metal trough to funnel the sand/gravel as it exits the cube. It gets funneled into a second 5 gal. bucket in the water. Empty the bucket once in a while, and no problems with pump issues. I use it for beach mining on WA beaches. Nice looking gold!

@Dan Hurd I had an idea, you should put a piece of rubber matting on the exit where the tailings fall so that it quiets the machine. It would help save your ears. Awesome video

Nicely done Dan An easy way to keep the pump clean is to not only using a good filter screen but if you use two bins and either fix an over flow drain to it or when you do your set up see if you can set up the first bin to over flow into the second one containing the pump. I know you know this technique for setting up recirculating systems, this is just a simple bush craft type fix. Hope to talk soon.

+chris anderson I use the bin in bin system. Works great if you remember to empty the first bin in time. We just got over zealous with our feeding.

hey Dan, i'm still working my way through all your videos (starting with the oldest) and i just made it to here so far, so i'm not sure if you've done anything about the pump issue yet or not...but i figured i'd share a little trick that could help save your pumps from early death. when you recirculate like that, if you put the pump into its own smaller container (but somewhat tall, preferably near the top of the other container), which itself sits inside the discharge container (but out of the path of the falling material), the solids can't get in, but the water can still spill over the top of it, which will keep the pump from getting buried and keep it running for you....basically like a sump within a sump. you could pretty easily make your own "inner-sump" out of some larger diameter PVC pipe (4"+) with a cap attached onto the bottom of it, then cut the length so that it's just about 2" - 3" shorter than the top wall of the main container, which should work pretty well as long as you keep the water level up enough that it can flow over the top of the sump.

Hi Dan, great video! Try putting a intake screen (small mesh) over the pump then hang the pump 1/2 way or so from the bottom of the bin, this will keep your intake water cleaner. I had to do this with mine--good luck.

A day on the Frazer with a few friends is a wonderful day indeed , by the looks of it . The only river out here in Ontario that is simular to the Frazer , is the Ottawa river , I'm not entirely sure how to research the gold history of Ottawa river . I was hoping you could educate me on the how's and where I would get any information concerning gold history in my Area . I have found Green Tourmaline and a few Flourite crystals in the area , so I'm going back up to the river this summer . Thank you for posting your new video , I've waited quite a while since your last video and I'm hoping to see more now that winter is on its way out . Best reguards from Lloyd , out east .

Good Vids. I've just purchased a Trommel for my Gold Cube. Will I need to upscale my 12v Bilge Pump from the 1100GPH to something like a 2000GPH? And also, what's the benefit of recycling, or pumping from same container and catching material coming out (do you rework it)?

Do you check the spill pile with a metal detector before you leave? Use two tubs one to catch off the cube and let that spill water over to another with the pump slightly raised off the bottom, might help it to last longer.

Hey Dan. I love this set up. I am going to be running this come spring. I am afraid of losing any nuggets I may come across so I'm probably going to spring for the Nugget Zone. Have you heard anything about them good or bad? Also they say if you run into flat gold then a 4th tray is a must for the cube but I've heard everyone say that even the 2nd tray barely ever sees any gold. Thanks buddy...keep er' golden.

Do you like the gold cube better than a high banker? I suppose you need to classify a lot more to use the gold cube, but with that trommel is there any advantage to a high banker over your setup in this vid?
@Danhurd

+Jordan Carroll I can recirculate the cube easy. In this situation the highbanker would discharge into the river which is a no-no. I much prefer the Highbaker when I can use it.

Hi Dan. What high-banker do you suggest for a dingle man operation but still wants to shovel nonstop? Can you explain why you much prefer highbanker over gctrommel? Is gctrommel just slower less material processed? Thanks for all the great content.

If I did my math correctly, three men with special equipment did a full day of heavy labor to get around one gram, $60 worth of gold at today’s price. That’s around $2.50 per hour, not counting the need to replace the pump that was destroyed, and not counting the effort required to actually sell the gold for cash and any other overhead like taxes. It would literally be more profitable to gather the river stones and sell those. I guess this is interesting from a historical larping perspective but as a business it looks like a devastating failure. To earn $15 per hour each would require finding 6 grams of gold in the day, again with no allowance for any cost or expenses, and a sustainable business taking home $15/hour would probably require double that output. That seems exceedingly unlikely to happen, especially at a sustained level.
