Field Watches: Everything You Need To Know! 

Ok , I got to say the last thing I expected to see in this video was a Geo Tracker!

Aside from a couple divers, and dress watches, most watches in my collection are field watches. I find them versatile, rugged, and fit my active lifestyle. Moreover, I stick to affordable field watches as they require low cost maintenance.

The quintessential field watch is the Citizen BJ6500-004E with a black dial and applied Arabic numerals. It doesn’t have lume but it doesn’t matter because you aren’t going to be reading it in the dark. Its a simple watch without complication, stripped down to doing only one thing well: tell time. And in the modern 40 mm size, its going to be legible and feel proportionate on the wrist without being overwhelming. In form and construction, its simple and durable and its going to fill any role from an outdoor hike to an elegant dinner party. Indeed, the field watch is the jack of all trades.

My daily driver is the Timex Expedition Field Chrono. Super useful on the field during civil/surveying work.

I love field watches. My personal favorite category of watches. I have a few watches but my most worn watch by far is my Christopher Ward Sealander. It has served me well in the field on many adventures and projects, yet doesn't look out of place dressed up a bit in the office.

Got the khaki field bronze 3 months ego. Love that watch. Probably my most worn watch of my collection.

The most popular Field Watch in LE circles seems to be the Apple Watch. The GShock is still represented, but the smart watches have mostly taken over. Sad.

I actually bought the Boldr expedition II Sinai because of you! Hopefully I’ll find that Rolex someday!

Really like my Boldr Venture black Dawn, simplicit design, lightweight, perfect size for me and has a date complication. As a daily driver great watch.

I have 2 Fieldies, one is Citizen with GMT, the other is Komandirskie 24-hour dial but no date

Good video. I would add that field watches told are civilian chic when you mention g-shock. The field watch had it's first hard spec with MIL-W-46374A. The most important factor of field watches is they have to be accurate within 60 seconds and have a mechanical or quartz movement. But nowadays we call everything field watches.

I want a Geo Tracker. Here in Southwestern Texas we have both desert and expansive beaches. Trackers are so popular they can sell for many thousands with 300 thousand miles. For decades I wore my Omega Seamaster as a field watch. I was in the US Army and spent plenty of time in the field. But now I am tiring of dive watches. A true field watch is refreshing.

- My everyday watch is a RZE Valour. A great company owned by a former engineer or designer at Boldr.

Only feild watch I own is a Rolex Explorer 1. 114270

Jory, that's probably one of your best vids ever, I love field watches and like you have a 'field watch' collection including G-Shocks and Protrek's, plus a myriad of others, but one of my favourites is Bertucci, yes I know they have a quartz movement and there are many people who'll discount it for that feature alone, but their BIG plus point is the cast in/solid strap bars, so no spring bars to break/fail. In addition their bands/straps are very good too. I do love that Timex Expedition North and the Rolex Explorer II, especially with it's 'well used/tool watch' patina, watches should be used and worn as intended? Another 'field watch' love is the Casio G-Shock Mudman series, of which I have several iterations from the original 'ani-digi' which was also know as the Guassman (AW-570/571) onwards.

There are tool watches, and I like tool watches for the functional aesthetic, like the anti-jewelry watch. I have worn dive watches for a long time and those are definitely a category of tool watch. But I don't dive and the bezel doesn't provide any fuctionality for me so I thought why not get a field watch of the same size so that more of the size could be dedicated to the dial and make the watch more functional for me. Unfortunately many field watches are very small. I only have one field watch right now but I'm always looking for a new model that ticks all of the boxes for me. Although I like NATO straps the holy grail of field watches for me would be one with tritium tubes and a nice oyster bracelet. I don't know why field watches have to have all of the numbers on the hour markers, surely most soldiers can count. I ended up with a Mondaine which has no numerals, after I took off its leather strap and put it on a NATO I decided that it was functionally a very good field watch so I guess that makes 2 in my collection.

I absolutely love that model of the Alpinist. Perfect size field watch imho. Dang good looking too.

casio Forester pls Review

Military folk don't wear field watches. they wear Garmin, G-shaocks and Timexes. Whatever they can get at the PX, based on their pay. Garmins, not to get lost, Gshock no to get broke, and Timex not to be late.

Love field watches.

Plenty of commanders did use pocket watches pre WWI, until they were picked off by the modern rifle and machine guns. Even combatants in the 19th century (Napoleonic War, American Civil War) used pocket watches during battle.
