the way people drive in the US on highways is wild. I'm sure its the same elsewhere but even without the snowy conditions, if an emergency and quick reaction is required ahead, a pile up will happen. The cars are close and moving fast. Everybody just goes about their business as if that's not dangerous.

@Bill P first off you clearly don’t understand these conditions, because it wasn’t 6 inches of snow. We didn’t even get an inch of snow at all. And lastly it did just start within seconds. It literally appears out of nowhere. Central Pennsylvania has had these conditions several times this year with incredible winds accompanying them. There literally is no way to know. The first time it happened this year I was on the phone with my mom, one moment looking out my window and completely calm and clear minus some pretty typical cloud coverage but even that rolled in quickly, the next moment I turned my back for not even a minute and conditions looked worse than what you were seeing here. The only way I knew each time we were getting these snow squalls was because I have my phone set to text emergency weather updates. Most people probably don’t have that and even if they do you might not even get the cell reception or a chance to pull over to see it in time. Incredibly tragic what happened. My the victims Rest In Peace, and condolences to the families. Edit; to correct incorrect autocorrect 😒🙄

@@ravenoctober9936 Check weather forecast, pay attention to temperatures, reduce your speed to half POSTED speed limit, leave at-least 200-300 feet between you and the person you are behind. That will give you 3x the normal 60mph stopping distance but your are only doing 30...remember. Turn your headlights hazards lights on. Tell your boss you can either be late or dead, so deal with it. Use winter tires not all season, and pay attention. If the weather is getting too bad take the first exit. doesn't matter where it goes. You cant stop on a hi-way. Don't get stuck in between trucks. Cant tell you how to deal with that but judging from the accidents I have seen, It is the worst place to be. Your car will disappear in an accident. pile ups are caused when people with poor reaction times or distracted follow too closely like NASCAR. but most of all I think all the drivers aides on cars make people confident. How do you know how bad things are with ABS, traction control, electronic stabilization. with all that people are kind of detached from the road.

My phone was going off with Emergency Alerts all figgin day, and the warnings specifically included the message that if you see what looks like fog up ahead, to slow down BEFORE reaching the edge of the "fog". No one listened, and this was the result. Speaking of fog, in my area, we get really thick fog, so thick that you almost can't see your neighbor's house directly across the street. THE SOLUTION ! Train American drivers to flash hi-beams after passing a wreck or road closure heading in the other direction. You would see multiple cars flashing lights at you - - your clue to SLOW DOWN ! Also, instead of standing around in the wreckage, a couple brave guys walk forward up to 1/8 mile ahead waving whatever shirt they can find. Cars that then manage to stop will turn around on the shoulder, hi-beams on, and drive up to 1/2 mile ahead of the crash. While this won't prevent the initial crash, it would reduce the size of the pile-up, deaths, and the clean-up.
