Fieseler Storch - Wings Folded for Hangar Space

I have too many planes! And more on their way! Don't get me wrong, that's a wonderful thing, but we have to make room in our hangars for all of them. One of the things we decided, was to fold the wings on the Fieseler Storch. That will buy us a little space until I can build another hangar. This clip shows the process of folding the Storch wings. We haven't done this in quite some time, so forgive any slight bumbling on our part. Enjoy!

These airplanes are so cool. Leading-edge slats on the wing, coordinated flap and aileron. The Germans were engineering the hell out of Bernoulli's principle.

Yeesh! [~19:58] That little screwdriver just a whisker away from puncturing the wing fabric if anything slipped... Gah! I'm crawling around on the floor hiding behind my chair trying to not watch. Okay. Did we survive unscathed? Whew. That was not helping my anxiety issues! LOL

>^..^< Mr. Weeks, a suggestion for consideration - In 1970 when I was stationed in Germany as a USArmy soldier I joined a German weekend glider club in Finthen Germany. One of the common commands installing or removing the wings was "hugla" which ment wiggle. So suggest you consider this possibly as your SOP on the Storch. The person at the end of the wing would just giggle the wing a little and the pin would go in or out easily when the person at the wing pin location was ready to pull or push the pin in/out....

It was good practice to fold the wings especially when it revealed the rusty pins and broken connector. Probably should be added to the annual inspection checklist.

I think that the Storch is one of your (more precious) aircraft. Have flown in a lot of planes including the F-4 in over 32 years in Aviation. If I could have one pick in flying in an aircraft-I would love to fly a Fieseler Storch!

Mr. Weeks, what you do is tops. Merely a humble suggestion.. . . When we Americans see that long legged bird we say Storkkkkk. When Germans see the same bird bird they say exactly what we Americans say. Germans too say Storkkkkk! We Americans spell the sound with a "K". Germans get the same sound but they use the letters "ch" to indicate the same sound. All the very best.
@BetterAircraftFabric

WRONG. Mr Geick is Right! Itsa Feeeslar Stohrhhhhh.. The German Pronunciation of the ch is next to impossible in English: its true German ch is pronounced as in the Scottish word loch

Any German officer needing to use the aircraft in a hurry would have to keep a squad of half a dozen mechanics to pull the aircraft out of its camouflaged hangar ,fumble around in the dark ,dropping lock pins,assembling wings,finding dropped lock pins,refuelling wing tanks. I bet that they were kept fully assembled most of the time Beautiful aircraft Kermit.😎 (Hope to visit your establishment next July on a planned trip) Cheers from Downunder!

I am in love with your bird. Here is a suggestion, how about making a detailed check list of the chronological steps to fold and unfold the wing. It has happened to me that although I know where thing go, but for a protracted time not performing the process I just forget. ie, which way do I turn the wing pin? R or L, do I push in before pulling out? Etc.
