Shed revival videos yes please, also I would keep the rear drums on the car, discs are much better for sure, however as this is a restoration not a custom, I would stay factory with everything if the car was mine.

If he was going concourse restoration then I’d agree with you but as he’s just bringing it back to it’s former glory and will actually be driving it and not keeping it as a garage queen then I’d do subtle upgrades such as rear disk conversion

Yes you need a special tool for the ac pipe, same ones as for fuel pipes, they clip over the pipe and then you slide them into the joint and part of the tool will go into the joint and unlatch it, if that makes sense... Buy a set of different sizes cheap enough, they are only made of plastic.

Hi. Great video. Just want to recommend a product for the rust. Its called vactan and is available from ebay . Doesnt need a lot of prep and you will be able to paint over after without priming. Vactan converts rust into a polymerised material which will stop rust in its tracks. Its also half the price of hammerite and krust. Well done once again with the video and thanks for your hard work.

Jeesh give yourself a break dude viewers are here to watch you not to control you! Loving the vids. Get yourself a welder, it saves the day with broken bolts etc and pays for itself very quickly! You will also be able to do sheet metal repairs by yourself. As for the brakes, go for discs on the rear, it's your car and only you will be working on it / servicing it. Make your life easier. Looking forward to the shed revival dude. Life can be hectic at times. don't put so much pressure on yourself 🙌

A few years ago I bought a set of torquing sockets which are amazing at removing rounded off nuts without having to have room to get in and hammer anything. They work by having small bars that tighten onto the nut as you turn it - I think I got them from B&Q for about twenty quid. They've been absolutely excellent and have got me out of so many jams.

For the AC pipes a special tool is ideal... But if you want to just get on, get some thin plastic (rigid) pipe and slit it down the middle. Trim it and wrap around the pipe - this will then slide DOWN and insert into the open part around the pipe. There is a spring inside which runs around the pipe in a circle, and your plastic tool will push it out of the way and then you can pull the pipe out. First time I did it I just used some needle nose pliers and walked around the spring pushing it in until it came off: takes ages but can be done. Good luck!

@wingers-ny3lk
@wingers-ny3lk 5 лет назад
To disconnect the air con pipes you need a special releasing tool, only a couple of quid from euro car parts or ebay. It inserts into the joint and you twist it and it releases the little spring that keeps them together. Hope that helps you.

Whilst I fully understand wanting to keep it restored to stock in it's purest form but the rear brake conversion should be the only exception. There are no benefits to staying drums (other than saying it's "completely stock" which doesn't hold any real world value) as they need rebuilding so you've still got to spend money to fix that. I'd take the financial hit of converting now, get all the benefits and it'll save you money and time in the long run. No one else will know any different when they look at it and assume it's all stock anyway but you've got a better, safer car. Love this channel.

No need for the apology, and yes wouldn't mind seeing some footage from the shed revamp. Keep up the good work James , as for the rear break conversion, do what you feel is going to benefit you most as I have had good results from both drum and disk, all depends how they are maintained.

Best wishes for the restore of the MK5, the Zetec S is going into classic territory now and in my opinion will be appreciating nicely over the next few years. I'm pretty sure the disc conversion and obligatory lowering, that has to be done, shouldn't take away from the collect-ability factor. OEM is where the glory is though, but a few subtle upgrades not go a miss. I came to this channel with you buying the Zetec S so am looking forward to the restoration videos ( are they still called videos?)..yeah Ill watch the workshop updates, a good work area as as important as the tools, ( especially in winter).

The air condition fittings for the condenser require a special tool to remove at about 11:31. You should have the refrigerant evacuated properly instead of letting it free into the atmosphere. The evacuation is done with a special machine that filters and stores the refrigerant, so it can be reused. There are probably environmental laws in the UK regarding that. There sure are here in California. James you sure have a BIG job ahead of you. I wish you well.

Irwin nut removers are amazing. Just a tip but for rust removal use nothing but bilt hamber products using them on my Astra just now hammerite waxoyl etc is shit in comparison. Get deox gel to get metal as rust free as possible then coat with electrox. Followed by prime paint etc. Also their s50 cavity wax is ideal for cavity especially the sills when you take those skirts off.. hopefully you won't find the horrors I did lurking under the skirts lol. Keep up the good vids.

Always the case.....you could have 100 bolts.........but theres always 1 x rogue nut or bolt to stop the job. I feel your pain. I would check the welding requirements though next to make sure its not a basket case.
@lewishill64
@lewishill64 5 лет назад
You could either heat the bolt up or weld a nut on top of the bolt and try that. A disc conversion would be a good choice but I suppose it’s only worth it if your keeping the car as unfortunately work like that doesn’t add value to the car. Great video again. Keep up the good work.

Lovely Jubbly, one major point, maybe it would of made more sense to start this in the spring, if not, rented a garage if funds allowed, coz in another month you might not get much done. Having said that good luck with your project.

If you want a quick way to remove the AC pipe without the tool, you can cut down the locking part of a drinks bottle (the little ring on the neck), chop it off, fit it round the AC pipe and cut to size. You should be able to push it up into the gap on the AC pipe, push it in all the way round and you will here a click and it will release the pipe.

You can use a bottle cap to get those pipes apart slice it and put in round the pipe will fit in to the pipe just push it down with some pliers and should come apart. Saves you buying a tool as you don’t need anything to push it back on.

Me I would weld a long shank bolt onto the stuck bolt (clean the head and mating surfaces first) and it should extract easy. A basic cheapo stick welder will do the job and is a boon to any workshop equipment. Also discs on the rear make a lot of sense.

A trick for breaking ball joints etc is to hit what it goes through, ie the steering arm on the hub. One or two whacks and the balljoint will pop out without the need for a pickle fork or ball joint separator.
@zoidberg444
@zoidberg444 5 лет назад
I would probably keep the drums on a small car like the Fiesta. Your rear discs won't be doing much work and will probably seize up or something before the pads wear out. I maintain a Honda Jazz with rear discs and i wish it was drums because the rear discs have been nothing but trouble. Rubbing and the pads seized in them. etc. If it broke your socket like that then that troublesome bolt is seized in there. I'd go to Toolstation and buy one of those MAP gas torches. Try heating it up. It might be enough to break the corrosion that is holding it in.

The bolt removal tool has to be harder than the bolt (some high tensile) that it's supposed to bite into. The extra cash for a quaily tool probably goes into the material selection and heat treatment. Personally I'd recommend a shaped charge used in demolition 😁

I live in Norway and we love to salt down our roads until the cars parked nearby falls apart. I´ve found drums to be «everlasting»-ish... It´s seems to be normal that disks and pads lives through one MOT while calipers lasts for two MOT-periodes. I´ve had my Space Star for 12 years now and have replaced drums and shoes recently, not because they were worn out, but because parts were going out of stock...
