Fiesta ST passenger blend door actuator replacement

This video is for the passengers side. Both drivers and passenger side are known to break. The teeth break causing a loud clicking noise as can be heard in this video. Replacement for the drivers side has been covered elsewhere, it is a bit more involved. This video is for the passengers side. It is very easy.
See my thread below on the Fiesta forum for complete part numbers and info for both sides.

I ended up replacing a perfectly fine blend door actuator underneath the steering column because ALL of the videos about clicking under the dash were for that 😂 I should’ve dug deeper to find yours! At least this one will be easy to replace. Thank you for the video!

Consider it preventative maintenance. The driver's side one has failed twice on mine in six years. Now I have a passenger side one failing. These stupid things are made of paper mache. It's such a common issue on most models of Fords and Ford still can't make an updated part, so we are stuck replacing one when they fail every couple of years.

Great timesaver video. Thanks. Have a couple of small comments: (1) buy the thumb ratchet mentioned in the video. Perfect tool for getting the upper screw out. (2) Spread a shop rag out inside the dash, after you get the glove compartment out. It will catch dropped screws or tools. (3) This part is physically the same as the one on the driver's side, except for the little pc board inside. The driver's side actuator has, as I remember, five pins while the passenger side one has just two. If you accidentally receive the wrong one, just open the old actuator and swap its PC board with the one you received. It's rare that the board fails, but the plastic gears shear their teeth off and that's the only thing that causes the failure. (4) And the gear that protrudes out of the actuator has a wide gap in the teeth that has to mesh with a wide tooth in the flap's female fitting. Look in through the plastic grid/vent where the actuator is mounted and you can move the flap a little to the place that matches with the actuator's position. Don't force the two together and don't try to twist the actuator's gear into place. Again, thanks for the help, gray25xt.

This is a fantastic video, thanks! I started hearing a knocking noise emitting from my glove box, it allowed me to find videos for replacing the actuator on the driver side but reading comments informed me that there's one in the glovebox which led me to this video. This looks really great.

Very good. Before digging listen to which one it is. Glovebox side is easy. Drivers side is difficult requiring removal of the steering column plastic cowl housing and a skinny arm...or removing the lower airbag to gain access from below. These things are made of toy train parts..they cant handle the repeated stress.

Great video! Thanks! My driver’s side made it to about 45k and the passenger side made it to about 64k miles. I remember being asked which side I needed a few years ago and thinking “you’ve got to be kidding me, there’s a passenger side that can go bad as well?” Somehow the teeth got misaligned and I had to take the actuator apart to rotate the teeth so I could get it to fit into place; a real pita!

Mines been broke for awhile now TY for the video I've mostly found ones that do the drivers side so I've been confused why the sound was coming from my passenger side (I know how to put gas in and that's about all my car knowledge). For the few passenger side videos I did find they have everything out already and don't show where it is actually located or that it is screwed in. This is great for people (like me) that have absolutely no knowledge of cars LOL are also broke and don't want to pay a mechanic to fix an easy problem. Thank you again!

I think you showed the wrong part number for the defrost door actuator, it should be BE8Z-19E616-B. The driver side is BE8Z-19E616-A. I bought my FiST used, and both blend doors went out within a few weeks of each other. The heat actuator (driver side) went first and while it was on order the defrost (passenger side) went. Glad to see the defrost is so easy to get to. The driver side was actually pretty easy accessing it from below the steering wheel. The driver side was missing a T20 screw on the top one. So I guess it had been replaced before. It was under warranty when I bought it so leave it to Ford to just ignore the screw.

That's the recirculate door. It switches the car to recirculate when the climate is off, thats why you never get ambient blowby. If you start the car with the climate always on fan 1 on any mode that doesnt enable recirculate, it should stop clicking at least until you replace the part.

Question, mine was making the knocking noise for months, just ignored it... but now car doesnt blow Air at all of any kind as of last week. Seeing how its been making the knocking noise for months, Replacing this most likely will stop the noise but not the issue with No Air? Is that a fuse/relay finally going out or will this actuator fix the air too? (Or is it related ro the blower motor itself?) Thanks alot

@@clauuxtheboi7957 Hi there. My issue was deep in the dash. I'm not a mechanic by any means so I took it to a shop for repairs. It was pretty pricy but it was something I couldn't personally do. My advice is if you're not sure, spend the 100 bucks or so on diagnostics and see what they say. If it's the motor near your steering column or the passenger side, it could be a DIY. But if the clicking and faulty vents are a result of the system itself deep in the dash, you might need to let a shop do it. Hope it works out! Once mine was fixed it's been great since.

I had to turn the car on and cycle through the heat/ac settings to get the gears to move around so the part would "set" right." Full comment is here: "Here is another tip. After I inserted the pole (with gears on it) of the actuator into the receiving socket on the car, the screw holes did NOT line up. I started the engine, everything loosened up. Hello! How do you align this properly with the gear? I noticed there's an arrow pointing to the gear on the new part, but when I set missing gear tooth to that position it wouldn't go into the car with any positioning of the blend door. I just plugged new part in and let it spin until it matched my old part and I was able to get it in, but then when driving no air was coming out of the car's ac vents, so I feel like its still expecting some specific alignment.

I know this is answering an old question, but I just changed mine today. Yes, when you put the new actuator in it does fit in a specific way. The white gears in the new actuator have to go in a certain way. I had to twist and turn my entire actuator a bit before the gears would line up - once the gears were in, I was able to twist the entire actuator so it was facing forward and I could clip in the wire.

Thanks. I’ve been in the FiST community for 8 years, we all call it the blend door actuator. Semantics. Nobody else has had a problem. Part number guides the way.

Just replaced my second one in 84k miles. They made this part to fail. Thanks for nothing, Ford.
