As weird as it feels to say... I kinda like this concept FIFA has. Give some smaller teams the opportunity to experience the same kind of international friendlies that larger teams get. Maybe for once the money's going to a decent place. (Also, I hope there's some media from those countries going over as well to help report on the matches and experiences too).

A pipe dream but I wish FIFA organised a world cup of the 32 worst countries and they battled it out to find who was the least worst. Imagine a Liechtenstein vs Somalia world cup final, it would be phenomenal viewing.

A healthy skepticism of FIFA is prudent. However, I do think this series could be a net positive for the national teams involved. As long as its focus is on generally smaller or less globally prominent national teams I think this could end up being a really interesting event. When ESPN had the broadcasting rights for UEFA Nations League in the US I loved watching the league D matches specifically because I so rarely got to see those countries play. I'm very interested in watching countries like Vanuatu, Mongolia, and Bhutan play in this event, and I think that over time this event could evolve into a very big deal for those less prominent national teams. That said, there is a part of me that is just waiting for the bait and switch in 5-10 years where they ditch the small "League D" type countries and mandate that the bigger "League A" type countries participate. I hope I'm wrong there.
@mattpotter8725
@mattpotter8725 6 месяцев назад
I can't see any of the big countries ever being involved in this because every country's FA needs to gain revenue during these windows by passing a certain number of home games against the best opposition they can get to agree to come and play them. The whole reason why the Nations League was invented in Europe was because there were two many uncompetitive games between the big boys and the minnows and not enough games between the top teams. The game between the more established, historically bigger countries and smaller ones still happens in the qualifying for tournaments but there are games with groups of fairly equivalent strength teams. I don't think it's perfect at all in Europe, but there are more games that are competitive, obviously depending on how seriously a country takes the competition. This idea, I was going to say tournament, but it's not a tournament, just doesn't feel right to me, so I'm skeptical. Not playing at home would mean a lot of the time playing in near enough stadiums the locals won't be interested and there will be very few of people from the countries competing there so won't these be like glorified training sessions? My thought is to see how it goes. If it helps countries that are finding it hard to arrange friendlies then it's probably a good thing. My other thought is that it's a lot of stuff travel that is just unnecessary, although it it's not very many people maybe that's irrelevant.

Tbf, thats the Volleyball Nations League format. The teams are split in weeks and every week is in different local to ease the logistics problems and make more matches played. And, to be honest, a World Nations League in Football is a good dream of mine. The calendar dosen't help. Its stupid and have to be sold before you do that. But, thats the format.

Z, you can walk a half marathon in about 3 hours. Just start with an hour long jog. You'll be able to step it up in 2 weeks.
@NJTRAF
@NJTRAF 6 месяцев назад
Not quite. Average walking speed for a Male under 30 of a reasonable fitness level is around 3mph. A half marathon is 13.1 miles. So that’s a little under 4.5hrs to walk it if you managed to keep a constant 3mph pace with elevation changes taken into account. 3hrs is pretty much a 4.5mph constant pace (4.37mph) to cover a half marathon. That is closer to an average jogging pace
@northofnashira2575
@northofnashira2575 6 месяцев назад
@NJTRAF You can walk a mile in 15 minutes or less. If you go with a full 15, then that's about 3.275 hours to walk 13.1 miles.
@NJTRAF
@NJTRAF 6 месяцев назад
@@northofnashira2575 again, read it back. The AVERAGE walking speed for a male is 3mph. Some will be quicker, some will be slower, but that’s around a 20min mile to walk at an average pace. The average male marathon runner keeps a 10mins 48 seconds per mile pace. I do not know here on Earth you’ve pulled that you would be walking 15 mins per mile as an average person when average male marathon runners are moving significantly faster and only complete a mile 4 minutes ahead of you

It sounds like an actual good idea. And it could certainly help in bringing the sport, the money and the reputation to areas where it doesn't go normally because they can't qualify for the world cup. FIFA actually did something good here and now I need to shower because I wrote that sentence.

This is a common Fifa trick. So you know how a vote for the host of WC 34 is coming up? And every country has the same vote? Fifa has always relied on the votes of smaller countries. This is their way of securing those votes. They are not doing this for the benefit of these small countries. They do it just for themselves.

its indeed a good initiative by FIFA to have this FIFA series because most of the countries would probably not have the chance to fund itself to go overseas to play other nations outside their confederations much, and this is a good way to play other countries.

Yeah and tomorrow they'll invent a totally new sport where 20 people, 10 on either side try to kick some sort of bouncy spherical object into nets on opposite ends of a field past 2 players, 1 on either side who guard those nets and even use their hands to do it. Totally brand new sport, folks. By the way, we can call the spherical object a ball and since they kick it, the name should have something to do with feet or something.

This actually tracks for fifa. In fifa it’s one member one vote, regardless of population or importance in world football. The way to get power and rise up in FIFA is to make benefits and kickbacks to as many of the smallest federations possible. Part of why expanding the World Cup is so popular in fifa despite most of the big federations in Europe and South America being against it.

Every continent needs to make their own nations league (North and South America should combine and Asia Oceania should combine), and then the winners of league A go into a finals league, 2nd place of league A go into a different group stage etc, all the way down to league D. Then instead of hosting the nations league every 2 years, host it every 4, with a continental group stage in the first 2 years, and then a global group stage in the next 2 (hold each group in a central location so travelling is less, and hold 3 games in each international window). I would love a 2nd group stage with New Zealand, Georgia, Angola and Nicaragua, or Hungary, Iraq, Zambia and Panama. Goodness me, league D group stage with San Marino, Anguilla, Guam and Djibouti. San Marino might have a chance to win a competitive game. Use this ranking to seed the pots for the World Cup the year after. The World Cup with more random pots is always a better spectacle than basing it off the world rankings, but at least you have the pots still based off of each team's performance.

I actually really like this, hopefully FIFA breaks it's track record and doesn't fuck this up, perhaps wishful thinking but we can hope these weak teams down the bottom with no funding are doomed to stay weak unless they get a miracle generational talent pop through, doesn't even have to be Messi, Ronaldo levels, for a team like say Sri Lanka, a player who'd fit on New Zealand's team would be a generational talent, but the odds of even that happening are so low so to give them an opportunity to play against teams their level, help improve their meager ratings, and perhaps put some eyes on back home, it at least gives them a chance, if it grows to include all of the bottom 100 or so teams, it'd be fantastic, we'll have to wait n see, but hopefully FIFA has finally done something good for the future of the sport, because these nations just need the help to grow, and if they all improve, it may even start paying for itself
