It had a little bit of an unfair advantage in the comparison because the K669D is XLR only so it was running through a nice quality preamp/interface while the others were USB, but still, it does sound great for the price!
Hello sir, which is better to use in USB mode at 4-6", am8 or tank 3? Am8 sounds very congested nose/throat type, and tank 3 sounds just flat. XLR in AM8 is quite good, but I'll be using only in USB. Considering I'm getting them both at equal price, so which is better?
Fantastic review! These were my notes that were made before the microphones were revealed: A good but a little muddy and noisy. Sibilance is good though B (R0de PodMic) dont like the sibilance. Less noisy than A, clearer. C (Tank 3) Noisier than A. Worse sibalance than B. Worst so far. D Favorite so far E Least noisy but clear mic so far. Sibilance could be a problem but has a nice upfront quality to it. Thick low end despite its clarity. F Nasally. Noisy. Worse than C. (AT ATR2100x) D (Shure MV7), A (FiFine AM8), and E (FiFine K699D are good. ----------------- Surprisingly, I REALLY liked the cheapest mic of the bunch. The Tank 3 through XLR output may have changed my opinion of it.
I bought two Fifine Tanks, they sound great but one MAJOR issue. My Mac won’t recognize them simultaneously even with a MIDI aggregate. Seems like my only option is one Fifine and a Rode unless someone can crack the code on this.
When it came to the blind test of the audio, I understand the blind test, but... kinda wish you'd name the mics and then did the price reveal at the end. I mean the audio test is for consumers that don't know a lot, right? So obscuring the name doesn't do much, especially when the test about performance. Again i understand the randomization of it to an extent. But i found myself jumping back and forth to line up the name of the microphone with the aidio sample.
Great review! XLR sounds a tad better than USB. Overall I prefer the Podmic USB and K669D. I do wish the Podmic had a bit more low end tho. Also the rest have some audible noise floor/white noise.
Just got this mic, but wow the handling noise is bugging me. I got it as I wanted a reasonably priced USB mic for when my audio interface breaks, which it did a few days ago. But it doesn't compare to my hand-held dynamic in a Shure A55M shock mount, it's too bad I otherwise like everything about this mic. Back to the hunt for a USB mic, hopefully with a broadcast style that has better "shock" noise rejection. Thanks for the review!
The build, the shape, the size, and the coloration all matter when it comes to handling noise. The SM58 is well built and weighty in the same way but has a more compact size, thus even though they're both cardioid dynamic mics, it's less prone to vibration and resonance.
I have the tank 3 as well. I really love the low tones in the tank 3. I have done a review as well. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
Right? I liked D the best but E was a not too distant second place. Preamp and converter quality matters! But yeah, I may have to get one of those mics now...
Yes, but except for the K669D shown in the video, the rest have USB connectivity and a headphone jack. Then you can plug in both the XLR and USB and decide whether to use the external mixers or the headphone jack on the mic itself to monitor.
We're afraid that they're two different USB/XLR dynamic mics. But to sum up directly, if you prefer the clarity out of dynamic mic, the Tank3 should be a choice over the SL40. If your use environment and your voice is a bit harsh, the SL40 should be able to smooth your voice better than the Tank3.
It would depend on a couple things...the K669D was a little worse with bumps/shocks and the sound is pretty crispy in the higher frequencies that could be a little fatiguing if you have a higher-pitched voice. If neither of those are issues for you and you also don't need the USB output, the K669D is a great value! The Tank3 has the benefit of being able to use both outputs, the sound is a little more balanced, and it was a little bit better with shocks/bumps (still not immune to them for sure).
