This is my full review for the Fifine Tank3 USB & XLR microphone. In this video I compare the Fifine Tank3 to the Shure SM7B. Which microphone sounds better in your opinion? Be sure to chime in in the comments section. The Tank3 by Fifine has a mute switch, headphone and volume knobs, a USB C port, as well as and XLR port, and 1/8" headphone jack.
I really like the sound quality of the Fifine's Tank3. It's smooth, full, warm, and doesn't contain any harshness in my opinion. At $99.00 USD the Tank 3 is a great value. It's well constructed, and delivers on what it set out to do.
The issues I have with the microphone are the mute button and the fact that it operates in USB mode at 16-Bits. In this day and age the minimum spec for USB microphones should be 24-Bit 48kHz. Bit depth has more to do with dynamic range so it's not a huge deal, but many content creators work in a 24-Bit environment and workflow.
Overall the Fifine Tank3 microphone is a big winner. A capacitive mute button and 24-Bit depth would make this microphone nearly flawless in my opinion.
Another great job by Fifine! Thanks to them for sending this microphone for me to review. It's greatly appreciated. Please subscribe to the channel.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words! I think Fifine has a really good product on their hands. I'm eager to test it against some other mics soon. I'm really liking how it sounds on my voice.

Love the looks of that mic! And sounds great. Reminds me of my favorite design which is the Earthworks Icon but I am not a fan of the shiny silver.

@FreePodcastTools 5 месяцев назад
I did not even think about the design looking like the Icon. You are spot on with that observation. I am so glad I'm not the only person who thinks it sounds really nice. I was a bit stunned after I listened back during editing. I kept replaying the comparison portion and hoped I wasn't alone on my opinion. Thank you so much for the great comment.

Yeah, great sound, the only draw back I saw was the handling noise but certainly not a deal breaker. And XLR plus USB! @@FreePodcastTools

@@portersblackboard that noise was pretty rough. I'll be curious to see other reviews to see if they experience the same issue. I always think back to the Neat King Bee II where some units had that problem and some didn't.

The Tank3 is impressive. Definitely not a $300+ difference in sound quality vs the SM7b 😲

kudos to you for being impartial and fair....it was ok when i compared it to snowball mic...but it fell far behind in quality against Elgato Wave 3 and Samson G-Track Pro.... i'd say i would happily pay maybe $40 - $60 , again...i'm not saying it's a bad one but doesn't compare well with microphones near it's price unless they drop the price lower than $65...just my opinion based on my tests ...XLR is a good feature to have but when you buy a Mic for over $50 it should have a bit more depth.

I think it's good to have multiple opinions on the same product as no two people see everything the same. I always appreciate the different perspectives. And by no means are my takes weighted anymore than anyone else's. I definitely like the sound profile much more than you do, but I have yet to put it up against a wide range of other mics (which I plan to do in the near future). Thank you for the comment and sharing your opinion. It's greatly appreciated.

Thanks for sharing your view! Do you mind telling us a bit more details about which aspect of quality that it's not up to the level of Wave3 and G-Track Pro?
@OMNITEK
@OMNITEK 4 месяца назад
on the 4 days i had it tested with different software, against Gtrack and Wave 3, the sound was drier than the other two meaning it didn't have the bass when speaking to it in close proximity, and the other thing was the sensitivity when going almost max volume (before clipping) was the only way to pick the voice in any sense of depth from 10-13 inches away (I say that because wave 3 and track both picked the voice with better depth at those distances with volume turned at 50%), the last thing (not as important to me) was the XLR that made some static noise when plugged directly on an m-audio, but no problem on a camera, unless the unit I tested had a small ground fault which I am assuming at this point since I don't have another one to test against. besides that, if these issues are fixed on tank 3, in my opinion with that design and the features it already has.., it would be worth more than $130 @

@@OMNITEK In our defense, we would say that it sounds like a defective. Just your first experience that the sound without bass support is quite not likely to happen on a dynamic mic, even though it's not that type of super-broadcast-like dynamic. Especially if the comparison is condenser mic Wave3, which isn't known for its low ends, assuming that you weren't doing any eq. And last, the XLR is just built to get rid of noise, if you get noises from the XLR instead of the USB, and the same result about testing it with different cables and interface, then it could be a defective issue. It's still our fault to let you down on this one. Truly sorry about the poor experience! We have reported this issue back to our engineers and the groups of quality control and will let them pay more attention to the quality issue, especially the XLR one you have experienced.

Great review! One thing that sm7b nails is noise reduction because of the built-in silicon ring. Both taps and hand grabs of the microphone go almost completely unnoticed. Grabbing and moving is especially common when streaming, and pretty common in podcasting depending on seating. Seeing as you own both of them, is there any chance you could do some tests for that kind of behavior? Pref with dB stats for the tap/grab and their location.

@@FreePodcastTools Based on other reviews it doesn't look good. Fifine does advertise a noise reducing silicon ring inside the tank3, just like the sm7b. But the results are way different
@FreePodcastTools

@@Ebbzzor thank you for sharing that. Hopefully, Fifine will address that in future updates.

@@Ebbzzor Thanks for bringing the question up! Because of the lows-favor characteristic of dynamic mics, actually, quite a lot of them have this kind of silicon ring design. But the result varies due to how the mics are shaped and how compact they are.

@@FIFINE Thanks for the reply! I hope the next iteration of dynamic Fifine mics can be on par or even better than shure noise/shock rejection. The smaller form factor definitely looks amazing, much better than the competition, so props for that. But I would much prefer good noise/shock rejection. I love the new mounting you implemented, clean as hell. Personally I think having the xlr and usbc (not aux) mini cables/housing coming out of the tip the mounting would make it even cleaner. I would love to replace my current Fifine with another great Fifine:) Keep up the good work

Is there software where you can connect two of these to a computer to record a podcast?

I know that you can connect multiple USB mics using Cleanfeed Pro but that costs money. cleanfeed.net/knowledge/multiple-usb-microphones Check out this video with the software mentioned in it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TCyaSuc4XL4.htmlsi=ZEjwrr65hEtjPSCm I hope that helps.

you can add separate input channels on obs for multiple microphones, apply compressor filters to both (or more) and you get podcast style sound and it's free...at least to begin without buying extra hardware and software. (this is if you're just starting, until the podcast makes enough money to upgrade).
