I know. Take mine for example. $1500 (second hand) and even on a bad day, I can climb into mine and go for a barrel round the block and still emerge smiling a little bit.
They’re just something about these. You know they’re not well built. You know they’re probably going to be unreliable. But it’s just gorgeous and none of that really matters.
I also have a basic one (without the seal leak b.t.w.)... 1.2 petrol and it drives like a dream: wouldn't mind the extra horse power though. I don't understand their complaint about the steering wheel being too light... it is especially with the 'city' mode enabled at low speed to facilitate maneuvers... but it stabilizes as speed picks up and it's also rather precise. This is my 1st Fiat and I'm delighted with it!
I have 2012 1.2 69hp Stock, it did not have a front anty roll bar, so it did actually oversteer on the limit. I added the anty roll bar, and it made handling more neutral, it still does oversteer.
It comes with big brakes and buckets from standard, the eseseseses wheels look amazing! If it had more power.. say 220bhp, this would go down in hot hatch history!
@kylio85 The same plastic can have different things done with it and the overall effect can be totally different. I think you'd have to agree that the inside of the 500 looks far nicer than the inside of the punto. I'd still rather have the punto though :-)
@sammsamuels i dont know so much anymore the fiat group has some pretty amazing technology now. Iv got an alfa mito and its got 3 stage engine managment switch, assisted hill start, tcs, blue and me,pillarless doors, and a really advanced engine, what citroen hatchback has those sort of options, all they have got is air suspension and digital techometer displays which looks cheap and nasty. (although the ds3 might change things interior wise)
@number9ninja Well thanx m8. Actually neither of them, as much as I like FIATs... But Iif I had to choose, The 500 for sure...it's a loot prettier & for its dimensions, u get enough room for 4 adults. The Grande Punto is too long & not that spacious; plus I'm not really keen on the style :( (especially the front end) but gotta say it handels very nicely.
People notice mediterranean cars like Seat Cupra/FR's and Fiat Abarth/Sportings and go "thats a nice car" No one ever notices ST's or VXR's but all the road knobs inside them believe they are standing out from the crowd when they aren't. When an ST/VXR is driven fast everyone thinks "What a twat/cock" yet when a Cupra/Abarth is driven fast nobody seems to care. We can get away with it because we don't have a known knob image.
i've got this fiat grande punto with a A/M + / - shifts , i like the car so much but changing the gears while driving is so tough and aggressive as if i'm driving a manual transmition car without a clutch do any one have this model agree with me?? i just need your kind reply because i think i have a problem with my car
Yes. It is a piece of utter shit. My family owns one since 2009. With the 1.4. Aaand... It broke 4 times. FOUR!!! And it is slow, and it wont downshift when going up a hill untill the engine is at 1000rpm or lower. What I have in mind to do is to swap it to a manual and get that DualStupid thing out the way... For the rest... It's a great litle car.
sorry for you,but here in belgium a friend has buy the renault clio last model sport, and lost mirors and his daschboard was goind up and down,if i was you i do my complaint in the fiatdealer,my fiat on this moment has 20.0000km on the clock,no problems
Just come back after a month, haha, 7 poor comments? I should have stayed clear from all the fiat enthusiasts and not posted. I don't need to see one I've been in many! It is still a nice car though this is why I was checking this out, however, things like the overall build quality and the fact that my mates gearbox went just makes me a bit cautious.
@Taylor40667 Wow Ford are so behind with the times, you mean to tell me they have only just caught on to supermini's being 180+bhp? Renault were getting 182 over half a decade ago with the 2.0 Clio Cup and Fiat were getting 180bhp out of a 1.4T 4 years ago. I can't believe Ford have taken over 4 years to wake up and smell the coffee with the new Fiesta ST. When everyone else is putting out 180bhp on a 1.4 Ford are still putting out 30 horses less on an engine double the size! Ha ha
@2007PHATE That's true, but... Well the 500's dashboard is coloured that's why it immediately strikes you as far more good looking... Anyway @ 13 & 1/2 thousand pounds u cannot expect the plastics of a Bentley, can u??
@odin52 well i went in fiat car shop and i bought it ...60 month credit...i was driving like about three months and allready had to go on repair... i love this car and its style and everything but has disappointed me...
I have purchased a Fiat Grande Sporting Punto 1.9 Turbo Diesel and remapped it, diagnostic machine clocked it at running 194bhp and I hit a 0-60 in just under 6.2 seconds, much better option than buying a sporty overpriced abarth + nothing beats the face of the lads in their BMW 330i when i'm matching what there V6 has to offer. Their faces drop even more when I do them off the lights and they realise im 17 with the fastest first car since the young kardashian girl kylie borought a 5.0L Mercedes Monster.
That's like stating an MG is superior to a Rover, the fact of the matter is an abarth is an overpriced plastic toybox with some sporty decals. What matters is under the bonnet and a 1.9 remap with a faster output is alot nicer than an overpriced mechanical mess.
JamiePlaysFifa ''diagnostic machine clocked it at running 194bhp'' oh god. What diagnostic machine can tell you the power your car is producing? enlighten me.
@StormDragon ツ I got the exact same engine (1.9 JTDm) and that engine is relatively reliable. Personally, I had to change fuel pump (at 120k km), nothing more yet. In general, one can say this engine is quite good (better average). BUT! Power of this engine is really crazy for that kind of small car. After remap engine can be boosted to +- 190 HP and that is just enormous (0-100km/h in less than 6 sec)
I've owned lots of small Fiats, from 127 Sports to Punto Abarths..........a shit road test from someone who clearly doesn't get the idea of feisty little road hogs with a quirkiness that we love.......Yes FIAT are marmite, but that's what makes them great little cars
"Engineering Ford can't do"? I guess you didn't hear about the 2.5 litre 300bhp RS that went on sale early this year? Probably not. Fiats are cheaper because: they are known to be unreliable.
As with all so called " motoring journalists” this one shows his pure ignorance many times in this video. Complaining about the dashboard materials is a favourite of plonkers like him. It’s a hot version of a low priced small hatchback and this buffoon would prefer a Lexus quality dash . And then all Fiats are like French cars without any qualification at all. Does he even care ? This is bloke should be selling iphone cases …. not talking with fake authority about one of the great european carmakers.
the base abarth is painfully slow, 155 hp is simply not enough for these big and heavy cars. It is not a hot hatch, the only car that can make use of such small engine and poor power is the 500 abarth and that one (the 160 hp) is not fast, it just feels fast. They should stop calling these hot hatches, they're not hot, for that, you need at least 2.0 turbo and 200 hp minimum
relax your little dickus Mr. Hamilton who need a v8 engine to just go to starbucks and get a takeaway.. 155hp is just enough for most of the people, no one is racing on fucking roads, if you want that go to the track and get humiliated by AMGs.
