Love love love this car. Most people just don't get it. One always pays more for exclusivity. The looks, the drive...I think Porsche got this one spot on.
What i meant was that she blew it on the final comment that the car wasn't worth the extra money over the boxster "s"...fast forward to today and the Spyder is worth almost double of an "s" . would have been well worth the extra couple of bucks...
I've always wondered why the cops-and-robbers shows on TV and movies always have people chasing each other with overpowered vehicles, rather than having one of the vehicles be something like this, or perhaps a little Lotus to demonstrate the power of handling, rather than simply the power of power.
Gotta love the Spyder's looks. I like the idea of having that car stripped out but still comfortable to drive around town. Though it's a bit painful to pay an extra for air conditioning especially when you live in a tropical climate. No need to have PDK for that one, coz driving stick is fun!
@Valera123456 You can have the stereo reinstalled, but Porsche charge you for it. So in this case the stereo may have been put back inn, or that speaker grille you see @1:10 is just an empty speaker grill without a speaker in it.
@MBGamingLegends Dude fifth gear is a show that the top gear presenter that didn't continue with TG's new format in 2002. Tiff Needell is an old top gear presenter. In fact believe it or not James May was in the old TG but didn't get his chance in the new format until season 2. But hey I only have every episode of Top Gear and Fifth Gear on my HDD.
@jxxn442 Ropes are great! Just checked out the 997 Carrera RS yesterday at a Porsche event and it has the same. Drove the Spyder round a little track and it is AWESOME!
It's always fun to f*ck around in a car which you do not have to maintenance, but when it comes to owning one yourself and fool around with it like that you will cry with bills that follow afterward. haha
@KillerKaprice fifth gear is a follow up to the original format of top gear but the 2002 series and fifth gear are rivals! he may of presented top gear but doesn't mean the two shows are not up against each other
I think most people here are missing the point. This car is in no means supposed to be practical. It is a 3rd or 4th car for a wealthy individual--- a toy. More driver focused immediately pummels the senses-- purity of function, similar to a 550 spyder or a 356 speedster. This car is just about get the revs up and forgetting the niceities. Perhaps in this current economic climate such a vehicle is construed as frivolous--- pay more, get less, go faster.
Raves about the car, just at the end she points out it isn't great for England where it rains all the time... Better than a boxster s... Manual roof is cool, retro
Not a big fan of the "TENT" top but I will say I'm impressed with how Porsche put it on a diet and made it a little less feminine. Still not my cup of joe. Surprised its 0-6 time is so low 5.1s. While many aren't as agile - there are lots of other cars out there thatll do that for much less and still give you an extra set of seats.

That convertible top is awful. My 95' Miata has two clips and a one-motion retractible top. If Porsche could come up with a similar setup, they would have a winner on their hands.

This car does not make sense to drive on the street. So much wind noise, would give anyone a headache. It would make for a good day at the track. For a little bit more than the cost of this car, I'd rather go for a 5 year old 911 Carrera 4.
strange fact: Japan - Lancer Evolution RS (lightweight version) is slightly cheaper than the standard version. Europe - Porsche Boxster Spyder (lightweight) is slightly more expensive than the standard version. i'd rather buy a standard Porsche Spyder and remove some parts to reduce weight than to pay more for an already-lightweight overpriced car.
God i can't stand the scam of charging you more for less options. And Porsche is super annoying with their scam system of nickel and diming you for every little thing. This car makes no sense. The regular Boxster S is much better.
