The car crash is strangely hilarious in hindsight, in addition to the connection to the narrator ('Jack') being a crash inspector. The whole time Jack is arguing with himself, but Self-portrait and Build-a-house only respond to Jack's questions not Tyler's, like he's doing another voice 🤣🤣🤣 I would love to see Norton doing both parts of that scene. Also, Tyler pulls Jack out of the drivers window 😉

Great reaction like always, this movie is a masterpiece. I was lucky enough to see this movie in the theater in 1999! It made the "splicing" part that much more real. Brad Pitt is Tyler Durden Edward Norton, the narrator, is Jack Moore It's OFFICIALLY(ish) revealed by unused props from the movie of Jack's driver's license and some of his mail, which show his name as "Jack Moore". There's also sort of an implication and common assumption that all of the "Jack" stuff was written by the narrator, and hence HE is Jack, and THAT'S why he later utters "I am Jack's smirking revenge." That maybe the "Jack" writings were things he wrote in his insomniac sleep(lessness) before he ever even created Tyler. That quote that tyler said "A woman could cut off your penis while you're sleeping and toss it out the window of a moving car." He's referring to the case of Lorena Bobbitt, which happened in the 90s a few years before this film came out. She cut her husband's wee-wee off and drove off, chucked it on the side of a road somewheres. Somehow the cops were able to find it, get it on ice, and it was successfully reattached, and John Bobbitt claims that it works fine these days. The 90s were wild! The book ending is better than the movie. It goes further. In the book he gets arrested and after sentencing finds himself detained in a mental hospital - where most (or all?) of the staff and patients seem to be members of Fight Club - and theyre up to something... Also, the bit where he fires the shot at the end is better in the book, because he's talking to himself and the perspective on that exchange - on the written page - is wild. Fun fact: that punch at 14:46 was scripted, the connection with Brad Pitt's ear was not. Norton hit him there by mistake so Brad Pitt's reaction was quite genuine lol Watching this movie more than once is a must so you can enjoy all the little hints that Tyler isn’t “real”. Like the zoom in on the pay phone saying it doesn’t accept incoming calls, the opening lines being “I know this because Tyler knows this…” all the little things that you might miss the first time around but can start piecing together once you know what to look for. Keep up the good work.

The writer Chuck Palaniuk is known for outlandish transgression writing. His books are very fun fiction reads, which are usually satires on life. Fight Clubs satire on materialism, is great.

I'd love to see your reaction to Gone Girl on this channel if you haven't already seen it. It's another fantastic Fincher film which also has a very smart script and excellent acting performances, only this time the subject matter is much more contemporary and easier to relate to than Fight Club's grungy take on reality. Also similarly to Fight Club it definitely has its brutal moments along with plenty of incisive commentary of its own, not to mention also having an amazing music score and brilliant cinematography. I think you'd love it.

My first reaction of yours, and it’s a great one. I like your overall presentation and editing choices. And I’m glad you didn’t cut it too short, which is very common among most. This is such a unique movie, and even more so back in the day. I avoided watching it for about a year or two because I assumed from the title that it was an empty headed testosterone festival. But that was delightfully dead wrong.

I also had different expectations going into the movie. It was definitely one that will benefit from a second viewing. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoy the channel 😊

If you watch the VHS cassette release, you see that he shot himself in the mouth and the bullet reflected off of a back molar, probably the tooth behind the tooth he pulled out and dropped into the sink. The bullet coming out of his mouth is actually visible on the VHS release - I don't know why it's not visible here but I'm guessing it's a framerate thing. The behind the scenes bits adds that the idea his cheek was blown out by "overpressure" - an explosive-related term. As for the fight clubs themselves, it's not a masculinity thing. Tyler Durden's whole thing was "Why the fuck am I working so hard for bullshit!?" And the fight clubs were a very direct way to tell other men, because why the hell would women get into a boxing club, that shit doesn't matter. All we have to worry about as men is surviving and caring for our loved ones. Just think about Tyler's speech about drying out venison on the remains of grand highways.

I think it’s a different type of masculinity as you say. Breaking out of conventional beliefs and getting back to a more primal understanding of humanity.

If you want people to spread the word, talk about something, tell them they can't . "The first rule of Fight Club is..." It looks like his aim was a little askew. The bullet appears to have come out just below and in front of his left ear. He'll definitely need jaw replacement and I predict tiniitis in his future.

45 seconds in and I'm already laughing because "underground boxing clubs" Edward Norton starved himself, avoided light, and didn't work out at all so his character would look more sickly and weak as the movie progresses, while Brad Pitt ate healthy, worked out, and got lots of sun so Tyler would grow bigger and healthier, indicating the Tyler personality growing stronger and taking over. And the "grade school" line was actually a replacement. The original line was "I want to have your abortion" but the censors said absolutely not. So Fincher said he'd change the line on the stipulation the replacement couldn't be rejected. Every scene has a Starbucks cup, representing how the coffee chain has covered the country. Though the theories of Marla not being real were denied. The only split was Narrator and Tyler. And at the end, he DID survive. But the Tyler personality died because the act of shooting into his own mouth was the decision to take his life into his own hands.
