Unfortunately, once you’ve had one concussion you are likely to get more. Slips and falls, jumping off stages, and certain movements can cause concussions even without hitting your head. I would from now on always keep an eye on how you are feeling when doing your crazy awesome fighting. Stay safe!

I was going to mention the same thing. The first thing I through of when you said that you didn't hit your head is that you also said you were learning to jump off the stage without sounding like an elephant. Jumping off a stage and landing hard can cause the effects a of previous concussion to worsen since the brain is still recovering and tender. It is always a good idea to listen to what you body is telling you.

Yep - probably the jumps. There is enough vertical force there to bounce your brain off the top of your skull.

I imagine the UK grading scale is causing some misunderstanding here for Americans. In the UK, the top mark is at 70% and up, rather than 90% and up. Jill saying she didn’t think she could beat an 80% wasn’t her settling for B- mediocrity. 80% is actually really freaking good.

Hard landings when you jump (the ones where you sound "like an elephant") are entirely capable of giving you a headache or light concussion. I've never had it quite that bad, but years of orienteering have given me plenty of experience with hard landings by short drops. Real skull-rattlers.

11:35 Sort of like what my friend did. He stupidly stepped into the street and was promptly hit by a car. He just remembers a massive thump to his side, flying through the air then sliding along the rather abrasive road surface. He thought he might have been knocked out because the paramedics arrived very very quickly. But no, he never lost conciseness. He had been hit by the ambulance. The paramedics stabilized him then had a legal dilemma. They needed to get the accident victim to the hospital ASAP, but doing so would mean leaving the scene of an injury accident, a felony. They decided to take their chances with the law and left for the hospital. Turned out they made the right choice. So if you have to be hit by a car, get hit by an ambulance, because they usually come with trained paramedics.

That's interesting! Over here (Ireland), it's actually the last thing you'd want to be hit by. If they're going fast enough to hit you without stopping in time, they're probably going to a callout. And that means they legally cannot stop under any circumstance. They will call ANOTHER ambulance to come and get you. So if you get hit by it, it's just a heavy af vehicle moving fast.

I offer this purely from experience. Mild vertigo attacks can present similarly to a concussion. Watching your activity for the course, especially the jumping down from the stage could shock your system into a vertigo attack. I had to spend almost a year figuring that out, now some 20 years later, the vertigo attacks are far more pronounced, but I'll take them over a concussion any day.

Getting concussed and not remembering how it happened is terrifying. Speaking from personal experience. Especially when you “wake up” and find yourself going about your business with no memory of anything that happened that day. Take care Jill! You can hit the inside of your head with the inside of your head, without hitting the outside of your head at all. Did you know that woodpeckers have a sort of a neck hinge and lots of extra room inside their skulls, just so they don't hit the inside of their head with the inside of their head, even while whamming away at a tree with the outside of their head?

Yes, meeting new & interesting people & then bond while beating each other up. I am familiar with this.

I've had a strange urge to fight you for years so this is finally my chance... But alas, won't be able to make it 😕 Maybe next year. Count down the days to your defeat, Sursum Ursa 😤

Everything Everywhere All at Once. I hope you get the chance to see it. Would love to hear your thoughts on the use of improvised weaponry, and thoughts on the movie in general.

There's a small problem of a small continent, and ocean between me and Canterbury, otherwise, I would love to do stage combat. I've got years and years of martial arts, and an overwhelming love for exaggeration, and being bonkers.

As one who has suffered more concussions than I can remember (badump-tsss), I can say you A) never quite get over them (not even including complications like Post-Concussive Syndrome) and B) are indeed more likely to see another concussion (as Waffle mentioned). The skull is not the greatest armor against itself. That said, please, please, please show us more stage combat and choreography! I used to want to do fight choreography on the side (even choreographed a "fight scene"* in high school drama) and would love to see more! :D *It was really just one punch and one block followed by two idiots howling in pain having hurt their hand/wrist. Ah, Neil Simon...
