Need a bar/arcade... With snacks... Ide totally hang out at a place like that. Have hook ups for computer lan matches and consoles. A bar. A snack and regular drink bar. I honestly love the fact that Ken took his time to make clear that he wasn't the only creator on KI . He specifically explained what was his job and who created the characters and programed the game. He didn't took 100% of the credit like others game developers do. My respect to Ken 👏🏾

There are games 10 years old or older you remember to be absolutely great. Then you go back to them after years and determine you don´t find them as good anymore as you once did. You are underwhelmed. And then there are a very few games like Killer Instinct, which - when you go back to play it spontaniously after years of abstinence - reveals to be even BETTER than you remembered it.

c-c-c-c-c-combo breaker! I said: "What the hell was that?!" when I went to the theater back in 94. So I went to check it out and some dude was playing with that ice dude that could melt and teleport behind the other guy and the other guy was playing as a girl with a green outfit that transformed into a glowing panther. My jaw dropped at how realistic it looked. That was my introduction to KI.

This was one of the best documentaries I've ever seen, let alone of any game. Excellently done and superbly informative. What I appreciate a lot is how the developers were close to their community. The KI community looks very positive and understanding with each other and the decisions of the dev teams.

Now that I am a project manager for a commercial construction company, I am even more invested especially in the technical terminology used on these projects. This was the first video game I ever played in my life with my Super Nintendo when I was 4 years old. Came with a cool soundtrack CD .The nostalgia from this video literally made me cry . I’m at the gas station over here crying lookin crazy .

I'm not even all the way through this doc, and there are so many golden nuggets of wisdom about the development and attitude around fighting games that I think the ENTIRE FGC could do with learning. Adam Heart says some really amazing things throughout the entirety of this piece. Every person who has ever complained about game balancing on Twitter, and every person who considers themselves a member of the FGC really owes it to themselves to watch this doc, especially 1:19:30 UPDATE: having finished the doc, this game looks sick, I love the dev philosophy, and the game looks rad as hell! I've never touched this game, but I'm definitely picking it up! #BringBackKI incredible work good sir! Thank you for all of your quality FGC docs!

I could listen to Ken Lobb talk for hours. There is something about his voice that I just get lost in. A bit like the music of Mick Gordon, really. Great documentary. Thank you to all involved for making this. I'm not even a massive fan of KI from a player perspective, but I do adore it as a series (even if it does make me feel old now....I may have been 11 when I scored my first ultra combo in the original) and enjoy hearing people passionately talking about its creation and design.

@@dreamcastdazia4753 The original soundtrack from the 90s game,was so good,they packaged it on cd with the SNES game. And the 2013 soundtracks by Mick Gordon (season 1 & 2),are flat out amazing. There are even some really good remixes of various character themes out there. I mean,Mick Gordon went to a Buddhist monastery and learned trad. throat singing for the Jago theme.For the themes of Aganos & Hisako,he brought in native speaking greek & japanese vocalists to sing the lyrics. Oh and also Celldweller,who did the music for season 3 is on the same level,listen to that Tusk theme,it´s like Basil Poledouris´ Conan the Barbarian meets Amon Amarth.

Thanks for interviewing me Esteban! It's awesome seeing how the documentary turned out. Killer Instinct means so much to so many people. Everyone has a story and it’s awesome to hear. For me, this was the project that transitioned me from QA to Design. I owe so much of what I do now thanks to Killer Instinct and the opportunities given to me by Iron Galaxy and Microsoft. Both Adam Heart and James Goddard really believed in me and helped push me to do things I never imagined. I didn’t go to school to become a game developer. I’m just a kid from Chicago who grew up playing fighting games his entire life. To be a part of something that has grown to become so beloved by fans and to leave my own mark on its legacy is super overwhelming to think about. Feels absolutely unreal.

I can still remember the first time I went into an arcade in 1995 and saw the Killer Instinct machine there with it's music and sounds. I played as Orchid and was instantly hooked. It is hands down one of the best fighting games ever made. KI2 was a masterpiece as well. Ahh.. the good old days. Can't believe it's almost 28 years since KI first came out (1994).

This was my favorite game growing up with a SNES at my Grandma’s house. In High School, it became my introduction into the FGC. The people I’ve met here have become lifelong friends, and it wouldn’t have happened if Microsoft didn’t take a chance on this absurd concept of a game. #bringbackki

Adam Heart - 1:18:42 The best 3 minutes of any fighting game documentary ever. The words should be framed in every office of a fighting game developer's building...in every competitive fighting, FPS, etc. This portion of the video should be played on repeat over and over and over again throughout the entire work day until closing hours.

I relate to what Maximilian said about killer instinct-I was in Middle School and I heard about the game and I immediately knew that I wanted it. It was the first game knew that I bought with my own money on super Nintendo and as soon as I had it I was like I am going to get good at this. Killer instinct gave me and my friends about 4 to 5 years of fun. Great video guys!

KI Team from Double Helix shoulda bailed on that shady buyout crap and formed their own studio or joined IG. In the end they bailed on it just like their boss, selling out to Amazon and bending KI over the table in the process. 'We were surprised and sad that we wouldn't get to keep working on it'. Didn't fight to keep working on it that hard though, did they?

Man, I loved KI as a kid. I discovered it in a Chinese Carryout with my father in a day I had a Doctor’s appointment. The sound and the look drew me in. When my birthday came up and KI was released on Super Nintendo, I had to have it. The soundtrack that came with it was pure gold. I listen to it as if it were a normal cd. I worked out with it. I used it for my wwf action figures. Great times

Killer Instinct has "counter-broken" the way fighting games should been seen, received and played. It has shown us its principles (Bluff), some people did laugh at it (Combo Breaker) yet it kept going (Counter-Breaker) into an Ultra game. KI is literally a game changer. High hit combos wouldn’t exist without this game. It’s criminally underrated and changed the game. Street fighter and mortal Kombat will always be the OGs but when KI came out it was so much different and groundbreaking

So 48:40 hit extremely close to home, because that's exactly what happened to me. When I got Killer Instinct back in 2016 (didn't have an xbox, and it was around the time it got Windows 10 support), I already knew which character I wanted. Kan-Ra. I downloaded the game, had RAAM as the special, free rotating character at the time, but I wanted Kan-Ra. At the time, nothing else, just Kan-Ra. Fast forward to now, I've since then gotten the entire roster, but I've always been a Kan-Ra main for the past 4 years. Although I thought the season pass model was a bit wacky at the time, the fact that you could purchase the character you wanted, at no particular expense, was absolutely amazing.

I am developing a fighting game with a small team. This video is very inspiring because you literally never see developers excited to talk about their work. They normally are just in an interview, only allowed to say a few things, and that's it. Our team is working with the MUGEN engine to learn retro gameplay without learning a new engine and with the limitations, you need to be creative to make your game shine. We found that sound is a major key to a game and I was very surprised to see this recognized. Many indie fighters drop the ball on sound. SOUND IS IMPORTANT!

Just some realistic feedback from a technical manager...Sound is the only reason I still don't care about MK X and MK 11... the sound is nice and clear now, but I can't stand when you pull off a fatality and you hear this stupid little symphony musical riff done on a tiny little keyboard, have the controls taken away from you and then you watch some bizarre extended 15-20 second Dexter kill animation (which is mostly reused between the models btw). The big black announcer isn't menacing sounding either..he's just reading the script without passion. It's not MK1-4 anymore, where the more basic music, vocals, and sounds were actually more effective due to the technical limitations than now. The KI 1 and 2, and even 2013, are all masterpieces in terms of what they've done with the audio and sound. SF2-5 also are all good with me as well...I regularly listen to all these tracks. I'd take cues from what these teams have done.

My mom would take my sister and I to blockbuster once a week for them to rent movies and I would rent Killer Instinct for N64 every single time until my family caught on and bought it for me. I grew up going to a boys and girls club where we had a couple arcade cabinets and a Super Nintendo. We would sit in line to play street fighter 2 and the winner got to keep playing. There was a core group of kids that grew up from early elementary school all the way through high school and we grew up with all of these fighting games. Killer Instinct was on of those games that most of of got obsessed with by the time it was released. Just thought I’d share out of the love for this game.

This game truly had all the exciting elements to keep ones interest going, I only played it on the Super Nintendo and I loved it, from ultra combos to the elusive Ultimate combos. I hope they keep the title alive.
