As a gay man. I think identity politics has reached a maximum. I think we should honor and keep a Pride Day. Because a lot of people have been killed for who they are not for choices they made; like Matthew Shepherd. But now crazily, the flag and what used to be a day has become a month and it seems like the flag is more important than the nation and the National Flag. I’m an American first and if my country needed me to lay down my life to keep others safe and free I would. I am gay but I don’t need a month to feel Pride living as I am and I feel weird when people are encouraged to spend a fucking whole 30 days celebrating a life experience they can’t identify with. It’s all based on being kind but it’s a bit much. Give us a day as a community to come together mourn those lost, celebrate together for just the simple joys of being alive and then let’s go one about our lives and live by examples. We don’t have to be like evangelicals pushing ourselves on the larger society. Gays are the one group of people you just can’t exterminate. You can kill all of any other group with enough hatred and focus but even if every gay men died tomorrow, straight people are making more.
