The 3 things starts at 1:30 - before that is not telling you any tips: 1. Bite size technique - Break tasks into bite size action steps of 10 to 15 minutes. 2. Five short minute technique - set a stop watch and do 5 minutes on your list of tasks, then start over on list with another 5 minutes. 3. Feel good technique - Pick a task, close your eyes and imagine it already completed, notice the feeling you have of procrastinated task being completed, open eyes and think about how bad feels to still not have done, then jump up and act.
Hurricane0039 Nope... no aggression in the slightest. The "point"? FWIW... my comment was merely a summation of my watching the entire video and review of useful tips that I gleaned. I like when folks give a textual review of videos, so that's what I was doing. I found the video while looking for tips to avoid procrastination when not wanting to finish up my annual tax return. Yes, I did get the taxes in on time. :-) Have a great day!
the last technique is the most powerful. close you eyes and imagine it done (already)! it feels really good. then you open your eyes and feel like replicating that feeling asap in real life.
I'm literally watching this video at 1:44am... Essay due tomorrow, history homework, and a test on a book I was supposed to read over the weekend but haven't even started... fml
I could listen to you read the phone book and have a great time doing so! What a wonderful voice you have! And I will try the techniques right now--really. Thank you.
My strategy is to 'look forward to the breaks' this type of passing of time is different to procrastination because it makes you feel good rather than bad. So in anticipation for doing work, just know that work also comes with really great breaks in between. These breaks feel so good because you know you're productive and you've found the right balance and your mind is set away from the negative-work aspect. Procrastination is more of the opposite since you feel bad for wasting time.
Urghh. I always focus on my clothes, room, objects, instead of studying. I always want to organize my stuff and clean/tidy my room, it's annoying and frustrating, so I totally understand
I have a exam after 2 months. I have studied really hard for it in last 5 months but now I started feeling less energetic and loosing my foccus. Suggestion to set my mind back on track appreciated.
s.lena Yes of course. The reasons is partly the huge reason of lists, but more your reaction to it. Which could be natural. Imagine your brain believes you have 1000 things you have to do in order for X. Where X can be : feel good about myself, "should have done long ago", have to do to get some enjoyment in my days, get my finances on the level, and so on. Now imagine the stress this causes in your brain, if the list is too big, if you haven´t defined the points EXTREMELY well (example: date of deadline, plan of exact work time invested each day into completing this, and so on) and started on at least a few of them + realized you cannot do "all of this next monday" or "all of it by the end of this year god damn it otherwise I´m just useless!" Now imagine what your brain does? It can either stress and become depressed by this shit-ton of undefined shit it needs to fix or do or make. Or it can supress it and focus instead of videogames, socializing, or whatever kind of "procrastination" you like. But in your brain this list still lingers, as loose ends. So you cant TRULY enjoy your procrastination. So you are boored. Which is just the other spectrum of stressed. Shifting left = taking ANY action with your body = best technique I found. It breaks the right-brain negative - worrying domination and allows you to at least get some stuff done or productively PLAN your shit.
my brain tells me that there's no point folding my clothes and just leave it inside the laundry bags cuz if i want to wear the certain type of clothes ill just search for it .... and its not messy if u think it is ....
Why you say so bad things? About me not reading enough books and not making enough work. I immedietly stopped watching it. Im not a slack, im productive instead of you. Procrastinating by doing video about procrastinating, gr8 job, surely you're productive.
