It reminds me of when Lawrence Taylor breaks Joe Theisman's leg. He frantically waves for help to come even more than Theisman's own teammates. He puts his hands on his head like he's really distressed about what he just accidentally did to him. To be fair, it's the ref's job to stop the fight. I've seen fighters let up when they think the fight is over and the ref DOESN'T stop it... and then their opponent recovers a bit and continues to fight. Competitively, it makes sense to go until the ref stops you, but in some cases where you see one fighter get ragdolled or they're clearly out it makes sense to stop even before the ref ends the fight.

Before I started competing I thought striking after the opponent was unconscious was necessary to secure the victory. However after actually experiencing someone at my mercy unable to defend themselves it changed my perspective, self control is the perfect way of describing it. Fighting is hectic and intense and sometimes you can't even remember bits and parts of it, your body just takes over. But when your mind and body are in sync things slow down and you can make better decisions.

I respect everyone of these fighters right here. They knew when their opponent couldn't continue and didn't go in for the kill. Most UFC fighters can learn something from this. Compassion goes a long way.

I can't help but have tremendous admiration and respect for such self control. That said, it's not over til the ref stops it and I'm sure we've all seen it go the other way(ref doesn't call a stoppage and the fighter regains his wits in 3 secs.) But the majority of these are devastating KO's, great class shown. 💪🏼🇦🇺
