Dr. Annabeth Headrick's work focuses on archaeological cultures, but she incorporates traditions and beliefs of living indigenous peoples as a way to understand the past. This talk brings to life objects in the exhibition Exploring Art of the Ancient Americas: The John Bourne Collection by explaining the various costume elements and their meanings. In addition, the lecture illuminates how costume was a critical part of statecraft, war, and worship.
This program is presented in partnership with the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) at Vanderbilt University.

Big Hoop earrings are most closely related to African culture rather than the comparisons showing in the beginning of this video.

They sacrifice themselves to represent the same sacrifice that the gods made themselves to become the Sun and a lot of those people that were sacrificed weren't forced to some were captured by War but a lot of them are just brave honorable people that loved the Earth and the Aztec people believe that death was a companion to life

Could the "goggles" and bug eyes just be a representation of how drowned sacrificial victims may have looked? The eyes bulge from the sockets after the body is submerged for a few hours in water. That seems probable
