I remember when Figma was still pretty high tier. Best in the biz, but their choices in figures has left me...meh. And the prices for figures with few accessories is pretty rough. I like the side or smaller stuff, but chill on those prices.
Figma have released figures from very few franchises I've had any interest in of late. A trend I've especially noticed is the switch to mostly just making franchises of trending shows. Tbh, I think Good Smile could also be deliberately making Figma bad because Nendoroids have always sold more and are probably cheaper to make, but that's just speculation.
the attack on titan figma were £30 on release with Armin being £40. Second hand figma (figma deadmaster ova version for example) went for £20. This was 2012 -2014.
I don't know who's running the Figma line lately (Max Factory or GSC), but holy moly I can't believe how deep they've fallen with their releases nowadays. Besides Chainsaw Man, they still haven't gotten around releasing other series everyone likes such as Love Live Nijigasaki. And other missing characters such as the Elite Four from Kill la Kill. But they chose not to and decided to release whatever, whichever that NO ONE CARES ABOUT. Like who tf wants a figure of the Mona Lisa (even the Tabletop series as a whole)? Some random anime character from that particular series Japan likes/loves but the rest of the world no one knows the title of? We didn't even get more characters from Genshin Impact, yet they used to release different versions of Saber and the other Servants from the Fate series back in the day. HoloLive and VTubers figures aside, sure, they are recently popular but that's the problem with Figma nowadays. My personal guess would be that they're complying to what's recently popular and went with it, expecting that they'll have a huge profit of it. They did purchase a lot of licenses; some were accepted and some were rejected, but they just chose not to. Gone were the good ol' days with banger releases such as Madoka Magica, VOCALOID (don't even get me started on Snow Miku.), the Fate Series, and any other fan favorites. I was considering to get some of the My Hero Academia characters, but ended up rethinking of getting the Revoltech versions due to the uprising QC issue with their Figma S1 Deku. Same with Saitama from One Punch Man; get the Dasin Model version. At this point, Bandai may consider to be the Japanese version of Hasbro with their shitty customer service, then the Figma line might as well be the Japanese version of the Star Wars Black Series and Marvel Legends.
agreed. As someone who likes Fate, i've been wanting to see more Fate figmas regarding other servants that appear in FGO like robin hood, Gawain, Billy The Kid, etc. i would have loved more OPM figures like Tatsumaki... want gurren laggan? too bad. smh... well, at least buzzmod has their kamina figure. which is basically figma but of a different brand name and will be releasing Yoko soon next year. Still kinda sucks that the prices are high and for some reason don't seem to be into making figures from other series that people would love, or characters that are missing. Like where TF is Subaru from Re:zero???
Oh yeah, I've been wanting love live nijigasaki figmas since forever. But nope, they will never come out. Hell, they won't even make the 6 other members of liella. Too bad shf isn't too keen on making love live stuff again.
Good Smile sees that they make way more money with Nendoroids and those shitty fucking statues, so Figmas are like, last priority to them now. Extremely sad.
We have to consider the track record Bandai has left recently with poor QC. Look at Trunks and most recently reports of their Guts figure breaking apart.
100%, Bandai has been terrible with QC this year but people are not making as much noise. This comparison is absurd because it takes figures like Denji where Figuarts absolutely is better (although the face of the SH is 100% not Denji), but what about figures like Gojo, Nobara, Sakura Card Captor where the figma is the best option? people just like to repeat what they hear.
I'd have bought that Doom Guy if the elbow joint isn't so damn hideous, as well completely misprinted. The arm sculpts for that figure just don't look human or natural.
nah the joints on that guy look terrible. even the mcfarlane (lmao) looks better in a neutral pose that's why figma should stick to anime girls or skinny characters
Jobbythehong actually made a video about that, and said the yamaguchi was more worth it (could be that the figma one decided to split in half but I digress)
Damn that’s pretty depressing, haven’t picked up a figma in a while but this was a good insight. Tbh i’d say the nendo line has had a smallish quality drop also but might just be my own bias
Also the problem of figma now, they make an expensive poseable figure that you probably dont want to touch too many times, Instead of a kinda fun to play and decent possabilty, and great sclupt action figure like back then.
Don't forget quality control! I just send back my replacement Shinobu last week because the robe was torn away from the body and her neck peg was faulty. This was a replacement of the first one which had her arm just fall off, and her crotch joint was floating. It's like parts weren't glued down properly.
Figma pricing is outrageous. Companies should ask themselves when pricing things, why should people pay this for OUR product when our competition has a cheaper product regardless of quality.😊
By the way I would say Hasbro is not that bad. It just depends on what kind of figure we are talking about. I collect a number of Star Wars Black series figures and for the price of $25-30 I would say you are getting a good deal. They do have issues though, the paint is okay, they could have a better paint job, but that would only increase the price. The other issue would also be limited posing. If you have a clone trooper and you are just going to do some simple posses I would say you are getting pretty decent quality for the price. If anything my biggest issue with Hasbro is them making figure store exclusives.
Fortunately most new Fate Figma is actually good. Of course beside Okita. Still can't forgive them making the haori DX, also no blood effect. If the Nendo can have it, why not Figma? Who tf want chibi Nobbu as standard release. But Lancer Artoria and MHX Alter was good, thought not worth the price but at least it's good
Bro honestly the prices nowadays are atrocious. A figma that comes with a single weapon and 5 pairs of hands will cost like 80-90 dollars (looking at you figma Ruby rose and weiss)
Funny video haha. Agree with all points you made (especially about the UK pricing) but another major point why they suck now a days is that they aren't making many characters that people want imo, as you will see way more characters in the nendoroid or the new PUP line compared to S.h figuarts, Revoltech/Amazing Yamaguchi and even Buzzmod now. They even stopped making stuff for the more popular anime series like where are the new AOT or SAO seasons?. Plus they tend to not make alot of the main cast of a series (usually stop at 1 or 2 characters compared to nendoroid).
This. I swear that every figure that i wanted from figma (a bunch of overwatch characters, phoenix wright characters, the now announced ryu ga gotoku characters....) are being released as fucking nendoroids. I don´t have anything against nendoroids, but im tired that almost every interesting character is being released as a nendoroid, and the figma buyers are stuck with cute anime chick / fucking fate character.
There are 3 anime that deserve figures Full metal alchemist brotherhood Fairy tail Kenichi the mightiest disciple Oh and black clover I don’t even watch that anime but even I k ow they deserve some love too
Goodsmile in general has fell off in recent years, they'd rather profit off nendoroids of dead celebrities, youtubers and American indie games in order to appeal to a western audience before making anything remotely Japanese Can't wait for the Garten of Banban nendo! Not like I've been waiting on a new Touhou character for the last 6 years
I have collected a few figmas over the years. The old Strike Witches, Garupan and Madoka ones I got for cheap and retailed for $30-$40 USD in 2011ish would be $110 now. The new Gura's elbows kill me at the price they are going to ask. I think the core of the issue is the lack of competition in the possible anime girl figure market. Thankfully I dont like new anime and figures dont retain value in japan so importing them 2nd hand is a good deal.
Figma homelander could work if he didnt look too realistic and looked more like it was made for kids Cause it would've looked like merch ripped out of the show. (I didnt watch the boys but i think they have atleast some homelander toys for marketing purposes)
Figma has settled for mediocrity, they been doing figures for years and just lately they have been using double joints for example, and yeah the prices are just way too much for what little they come with
The only reason why I get Figma is for some of their video game characters that won't be getting figures from other brands with articulation (Samus, Demifiend, Joker (P5)). Other than that, I'm surprised it took this long for some to notice how downhill figma has gotten recently. I know SH Figuarts isn't perfect, but man the Kamen Rider Geats figures are way cheaper and are more articulated. Even the SpyxFamily line is pretty good for less price.
price wise even figuarts has gotten rediculous, specifically the sh monsterarts line, i bought the Final Wars Godzilla and it was like 95 usd...no accessories, poor qc and not much in the way of paintwork on the body. When NECA had the license, you could get a Godzilla figure that was like 30 bucks with great articulation, sculpt detail and amazing paint. Those figures fetch a high aftermarket price for a reason.
I have the og Spider-Man and Iron Spider. I really like the Spider-Man, amazing poseability and accessories but the Iron Spider isn’t really my thing. I don’t have many of their figures because they don’t really own any properties I like besides super heroes. I’ll probably pick up the One Punch man figures they’re making if I can afford them.
I think it’s a company wide problem of them growing too fast. I talked about it a bit in one of my videos but they really need to stop scooping up licenses and making new product lines and re focus their efforts.
My favorite Figma that I own is probably Uesugi Kenshin from Rance -- not only is the sculpt very expressive and proportionally accurate, but it's just really cool to know they made a figure for a straight up porn franchise. It really appealed to me that Figma made figures for niche otaku interests, down to figures of Japanese memes for the sheer novelty of it. Now they make figures of like... Homelander and uhh... L--League of Legends. Man, this shit sucks, I'm going back to Bionicles...
Figma fell off for me with their first splatoon set. The figures feel awful to pose, the accessories feel flimsy and the earphone accessory snapped when I was trying to put it on. Wasted money lmao
Kinda misleading to say that the figma one is more expensive when you forgot to mention that his human form and that chainsaw thing (i haven't seen the anime as well lol) is the same figure and you get those parts as one set while the S.H. Figuarts both iterations are sold separately and (at least where i live) it costs more to buy both Denji's from figuarts then it is to buy a figma 🤷♀
That’s very true thank you for pointing that out! I think my point still stands with how the Figma looks like absolute shit in comparison but I definitely should’ve mentioned what you said lol.
I don't really believe in memorabilia, anyway. Maybe when someone makes an Alcatraz figure with a SCAR, Gauss Rifle or MIKE and his Majestic and Monomolecular Sword I might actually throw my hat into this ring but... meh. Good video, though, hope it all works out for you.
Bro, Bandai pictures are very edited to look better and the actual item is not so great. I’m getting those chain saw figures from both and I like the figmas better. SHF has a better design articulation wise but they use this cheap azz plastic. Paint work is just to fool you on the other hand figma uses better quality materias and their scale is much better.
Figma Eren Yaeger : $60, comes with full 3DMG, cape, grappling hooks, second grappling hooks made of string for hanging on stuff, smoke effect parts, 3 faces. Upcoming Figma Dread Samus : $100+, comes with morph ball, second arm cannon, AND... a bit of wall. All that for $40 bucks more. Even the old other M Samus came with some effect parts and it was still less than $100.
yeah I'm not familiar with these lines of toys since i mostly just collect 52 toys beast box's but the photos shown probably just because figma promotional pictures have no singular lighting - instead using a straight ahead lighting to not have shadows.
Im not a huge fan of their anime figs. But you gotta admit the demon souls, totk link, and metroid dread samus are baller 🙏. Other than that i prefer shf
From what I remember, the more reasonable reason why GSC gives less of a shit about Figma and more Nendoroids is because the technology and Plastic cost. Since from what I heard, the Company stated that Plastic has been more Expensive or something, while S.H Figuarts are releasing it like nothing is stopping their way. Sounds like Bullshit. But, I think they try soo hard to be High Quality but failed at the same time. They should've seen their Rival Company having more Cheaper prices than their own. For Example, Power, S.h Figuarts and Figma are posable Figure. They have the same Accessories. S.H Figuarts is 59$ Figma cosg 90$ Who wins? S.H Figuarts. Since no one in hell will buy a 90$ Figma Version if your super into the Character. GSC should know this. But, they just don't fucking listen. I never like Nendoroids but their cute. But lack of Posability and Imagination. Pop Up Parade is just another Generic Statue that you can just get a Banpresto for 15$ GSC is soo cheap with their products that they accidently almost killed their own Lines.
I only get figmas if the figures are from Niche animes or brands, like Strike Witches, Madoka Magica, Fire Emblem, Monogatari, Summer Wars, Ikki Tousen, and etc. other then that, If mafex, Figuarts, or any 3rd brand like Lintoys or Pocket world make a figure, I'll chose it over figma. Some reason ONLY figma makes Persona figures! why?
Also, oshi no ko is super hype, yet we don't have 1/12 scale action figures. Nendoroids are fine, but figmas would rock. Shf won't touch it since it isn't too action-oriented I think.
I've been looking more into other brands like Snail Shell. I still pre-order Nendoroids because they're like 50 bucks but yeah, Figmas has been rising in price recently despite the sub-par quality. Unless I really like the media, I don't bother buying it. I haven't ordered in a while and I've only pre-ordered Shiroko and Nikke Alice recently.
@@miragebangbravern floppy knee joints, soft hands that can barely hold weapon securely, overly exposed joints, fragile to handle, a bfg that is impossible to be held/posed properly. All for $100, first and last purchase. For once, Mcfarlane is superior, despite the crude articulation.
I mean Figma's sculpts are falling off but S.H. Figuarts as a line is worse like I have never been happy with the S.H. Figuarts hair pieces(soft plastic, fragile to move at swivel joints) and overall they feel more fragile, not to mention the stands do not plug in so they are very visible and the faces/hair is difficult to change. I'm not trying to simp Figma and have nothing to say about the other brands but S.H. Figuarts is just soooo poorly executed even if it looks good.
Figma just does better at making quality and glorified statue of anime girls. S.H figure arts is better at making cool, muscley, realistic action figure dudes. I guess chainsaw man was kinda ugly because figma always made cleaner looking figures, with gentle colors and a matte finish on the figures. Idk why figma makes real life people, I always thought they looked meh.
The tradeoff is... the mecha fans are getting fed so well with Moderoid and the "Mechasmile" products. Maybe Act-Mode too. We eating good mecha brosssss.
I bought figma Erwin figure from Attack on Titan for my birthday. Less than 5 minutes passed after I put the horse on the stand and the connector broke.
Hey at least you aren’t a play arts Kai fan. 180 bucks for a figure who’s only accessories are hands and their weapon… The figures are still rly nice tho and their one of the few good figures of Final Fantasy characters.
thing is figma is expensive as fuck for no reason it was pure luck some guy had pity and sold it at 20 pound the mikasa figma is the best aot figure made likely...i think
nendos are also dogshit, they are way to small for how much they are being sold for and customer service was absolute shit, i preordered but never got my preorder bonus and two pieces of it broke for literally no reason the only good thing about nendos are paint quality and sculpt and thats because their super limited, might as well just be a funko pop with articulation
Tell me why once SHF announced berserk figures they went and rereleased their dated ass femto figma(bad guy Griffith) for like $250 meanwhile SHF Griffith is cheaper and comes with a fucking horse
