This video is a review of the Fiido C21 Pro e-Grave bike from Chinese company Fiido Bikes.
In addition to providing my impressions about the bike it was also...
The FIRST time… I used my Insta360 X2 camera mounted on a bike’s handlebar
The FIRST time… I used my Comica BoomX-U wireless microphones connected to an external USB3 Microphone adapter on the camera.
LOTs of “firsts“… What can go wrong, huh? 🙂

You may also want to read a more detailed account of the unboxing + setup at the EyeCycled blog page: eyecycled.com/e...
Also, this is my 1st e-bike, so please remember I am trying to do the best I can... :)
Thanks for watching!

A comment on charging... In my last ride I drove the battery flat on purpose. First because I wanted to know what happened when the battery drains to "zero" in the middle of a ride, second because I wanted to ascertain the bike is fully rideable with a drained battery and third because I wanted to know how long it would take to charge the battery from "zero" to 100%. So, I used assist levels 4 and 5 for most of the time... I started with 40% of battery remaining and after 6.5 km que battery indicator started to flash and strangely the Fiido App started to show number "1" in the field where the remaining charge is shown. This stayed like this even after the battery was fully discharged. At some point after that the bike entered a form of battery saving mode and even at assist level 5 I didn't feel the motor helping much, but I could still feel it pushing me for another 3 km or so. There is no visible indicator that the battery is flat or that the motor is no longer working, so I cannot say precisely when the motor stopped to assist, but it was around that 3 to 3.5 km mark. The control panel and lights were still powered and I was able to use them throughout the ride even with no assistance, so some energy is left in the battery for these functions (probably the reason the indicator in the Fiido App shows "1"). As I arrived home I plugged the charger but as the bike was in a shed I could not see when the charger turned from red to green indicating the battery is fully charged... I guess if anyone wants to be precise it would be like watching paint dry as I can think of no way to precisely ascertain the charging time under these conditions. What I did was, I set a 30 min timer in my phone and every 30 min I went to the shed to see if the battery was fully charged, so there can be a about 15 min + or - in this metric. In my test I am confident to say that it took more than 4h to fully charge the battery under the test conditions, but less than 4.5h. The charger actually gets quite warm (but not super hot), so a well ventilated place is advisable. I hope this is useful.

With the second battery it has a cool range. By my experience, 50 km is enough for the body. Flat is boring, hills are tiring.😊 Since this is your first, you can't appreciate enough the extras it has. The hydraulic break. The ability of pedalling. Speed. And the torque sensor. It is exceptional, normally they drag you, even if you don't want to. Cool bike! .. and even the standard battery is replaceable while it is not removable. Fiido is quality low budget bike.

I received the range extender battery in October and have not yet installed it in the bike... life is a bit complicated right now, but I am looking forward to returning to my cycling this year and will most certainly make use of the 2nd battery. Thanks for the feedback.

When you talk about range, don't forget your weight. When I have 70 km, my girlfriend has 120.

I worked for Ferranti in the late 70's. Bracknell was their place. I had never realised how beautiful it was. I have an arthritic knee and a sciatic hip but I think I will visit this place again on my C21 (when it arrives) :-) You do 20% an hour so 5 hours max there. I really enjoyed your video, it was a tad scary on times, vicarious, but I found it lovely that you have so much space. One of the best videos ever 🙂

As I mentioned in the blog post, the C21 comes with a 25 km/h (15.5 m/h) speed limit, after which it cuts the assistance and the motor does not provide any power again until the speed gets down to 25 km/h (or lower), but I just found out if you press the arrow down button (V) and hold it pressed for about 10 seconds, this either increases the limit or disables the restriction. I tested it and it works. The motor continued to provide power above the 25 km/h, but I think the limit is just increased to 35 km/h as per US regulations. When you do that a little icon of a "rocket" appears on the display of the control panel (meter). Its good to know, but I am trying to find out exactly what the setting does and if a restriction is still in place, what the new restriction is after you setup the bike this way.

Got some information from Fiido regarding the speed unlock feature on the C21 Pro: "The preset speed is limited to 25km/h, but the max speed can be reached at 21.1MPH (34km/h) after long pressing the V button to unlock the speed. Hope it helps." So there is still a limitation on speed for the motor assistance, but that limitation is higher when you perform the unlock procedure.

@@EyeCycled I also think this bike is very good. Especially considering the price/value relation. Right, as you described the limitation can be changed according to the regional regulation (25 km/h / 32 km/h). However, I can not find any significant difference about the motor support on/between level 2, level 3, level 4 and level 5. There is definitely a big difference from level 1 and/to level 2. But all other level above level 2 seems quite similar. At the App there is a menu which request a private key to "unlock" completely. But it seems nobody knows this "private key". Who knows (more about) this "private key"? Very frustrating, if there is a function available/foreseen which finally can not used due to missing information (of the private key / code) even there basically is such function available.

@@FamilieSchmidt-gw2gj Hi and thank you for your comment. I have not seen the menu requesting an unlock key. I do believe however that the only thing is it likely to unlock is the 25 Km/h speed limit. You can do that by pressing the "arrow down" button in the control panel for 10 seconds. A little "rocket" icon is then displayed in the control panel and the new limit (yes, there is still one) becomes 34 Km/h. That meas the bike will still provide motor assistance up to a speed of 34 Km/h instead of 25 Km/h.

@@EyeCycledHi and Sorry for replying sooooo late, due to I did not check this site anymore and on my e-mail your comment was automatically shifted into an folder, which I did not created/use. About the unlock key: on the Fiido App, there is/was a section named "private key". In the past (mid 2023), when you tapped this menu, it requested to type the private key for full unlock of power and speed. It also mentioned, that in case of full unlock, it will dramatically reduce the range. When I contacted Fiido about this and other points (scratches and other problems an the bike), Fiido replied about all other point, except this private key, even I asked again and again. After I requested to return the bike back to Fiido due to the problems and no providing the private key, Fiido then replied and confessed that there is a private key for full unlock but did not provide the private key and just refered to the "rocket mode". I think it is about the legal requirement. When I checked the Private key menu on the app this January, I found this Private key menu is blocked (it is still displayed, but in grey letters instead of black letters and if you tap/touch on this menu, there is no function and does not show the next level, which request the private key with warning about the range reduction). So Fiido blocked this function. May be meanwhile this "private key" section has completely removed from the app. I don't know, as I do not use the app anymore, as it need to register the frame number to use the app and by the frame number it is linked to my order/name etc and Fiido can control/config it individually and may downgrade even more function. Let me know how to provide you the screenshot from the app, whixh show you the "private key" menu.

To everyone watching this video and reading the comments, I have now received the range extender battery for this bike from Fiido. I have not had the time to install and test it. The installation appears to be less straight forward than I would have hoped. I will do my own review, but for those who cannot wait, there is an installation video in RU-vid ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lbjlsyEmMHU.htmlsi=uWvElsSWEVOMKvSM

Just a quick question on when you use the range extender. Do you turn on both batteries or just use the frame one first. then power that one off and power the extender on? thank you and best of regards,

11:00 You are mixing support with the reality of gear change, it can never be the same. In a few rides you'll probably not even notice it 🙂 13:35 Most lycra clad hooligans go mental if a car passes that close :-) 17:50 The gear difficulty is probably down the the torque management system. Not sure how to get a firmware fix for that?

Hi i am planning to buy one for daily commute. Hows it on steep hills? I have couple of steep hills to climb daily. Thanks

Hi and sorry for the delay in replying. Being honest I have not tested the bike in big, long hills yet as there aren't many in the region I lived. The smaller hills I rode the bike on I'd say are OK, but there is an obvious limit of ascension from which the 250W of assistance is not enough and you have to put strenght on the pedals to move forward. I'd say from a gradient of 5% you start to feel it and from there on you start to feel the weight of the bike. Its presumed that as long your speed is below 25 km/h the 250W of assistance are there, but you start to become less and less aware of it as it becomes harder to pedal.

how is the range with the battery? some folks say, only about 25km, in real.
@EyeCycled
@EyeCycled Год назад
Hi. I have riden about 38 - 40 km in one charge, but my use should not be taken as an accurate measure of range. I do believe if you keep it at assist level 1 (occosional level 2) you'd be able to go much farther, perhaps 50 km. Having said that, given the tests and claims I've heard form other brands this bike is definetly on the lower range, which is perhaps to expect given it has a smaller battery capacity that most other comparable bikes I've seen. Don't take my word for it, but if you need to use the motor a lot and you want longer than 40 km range, then this bike is not for you. Fiido has announced they will be making a 2nd battery i.e. range extender available around August time frame though. I'll see if I can buy one when available to test. Hope this helps.

cool the farmers don't make fences and block the bike path
@EyeCycled
@EyeCycled Год назад
There were no farms in the route. The open fields are public and not private and no croops are planted there. Its more like a park where people go run, walk, walk the dogs, etc.
