So I want to build one... BUT... all these cabinets are powder coated during construction and you never know what chemicals is used for the powder coat base. I dont want that stuff leaching into my familys barbecue. So my plan is to make a fake cabinet box with 4 drawer kits from HD and weld tack the box and shelves. Mite post a vid when I do it.
If you don’t mind me asking how did you fix the plastic wheel problem. Just ran into that same problem. Wondering if I should burn them off and let it just be a sliding drawer?
Hey thanks for watching. I got the racks from Walmart, they were some cheap drying racks.I would just crack the bottom drawer open a bit to regulate the temp.
I like it, man. Cool video. Glad your smoker worked. I plan on making one this weekend from a 3 drawer file cabinet we have. What temp were you getting? Oh, and I'm pretty sure you'd want to smoke something that large a little longer than six hours.
Thank you! It was alot of fun and I was getting a decent temp anywhere from 250 to like 320. I really wanted to smoke it longer but underestimated my time so threw it in the oven to finish it off. Still came out good though.
Oh, yeah, you did say that you put it in the oven. I found the old vid of Luke on Catfish & Carp. I like the use of an electric hot plate to heat up the chips. I made a "burn-off" fire in mine this weekend and found the (melted) sheets of plastic you mentioned behind each door. I found it difficult to keep a good fire going, but I'll be trying a pork leg and some bacon slabs this week. Thanks again for the video.
Depends on the coal you use. I went with lump coal and oak wood. I believe I only had to mess with it once or twice. If you know how to control the air flow, you can make it last awhile.
@@dunnjustinn66 I had the same problem. Afterwards the top 2 draws had issues closing. I built mine 2 yrs ago and the wheels finally melted. I'm in the process of cutting the draws off the top 2 draws and keeping the front panels. I'll hinge and handle them. Then drill holes on the top to hang chains and hooks. If It's a success, I'll let you know.
@@kimmonsm I'm going to start on a build and thought about doing that from the start. I think the hinge will work better than the drawers. Have you started this yet?
Russell LeBoeuf Yes Sirrr. I did a burn out last night and will be smoking some baby backs, some jerk tips, whole chicken and some links tomorrow. I’ll send some pics or video.
