As a Nicaraguan thank you for this podcast about one of the many wars we had in our contry. Walker is only seen as a devil and not as a human being who was a product of his time and circumstances and ambition of the Nicaraguan government of that time that was more busy fighting between themselves than to govern their people

I remember in the history book I had in high school had a paragraph or two about Walker, and for whatever reason, it really stuck out to me.

I like this episode because we got a little emphasis on walker as a character. Usually there's just so many names being spoken and its hard to keep track of who everybody is on so little background

I love how you emphasize the actual battle scene and the fight because a Wikipedia search does not at all explain the actual war details. Thank you.

Great work done here. You really explained the story with as many details than many other documentaries on William Walker.

At 7:46 you mention John C. Calhoun as Vice President at the time, but that would be impossible. Did you mean Secretary of State?

In all reality it was another American that ordered the execution of Walker. Honduras just happened to be the destination.

Wow the details of war are gruesome but necessary when talking about the history of military conquest.

San Juan del Sur. "Sur" is Spanish for South so it's translated as "south of San Juan."

Completely missed the strategic Vanderbilt’s route thru Nicaragua to cross to the west as the reason to take the power over their government. Poor study

Walker provided Nicaragua with the best government it has ever had. I have often wondered what Honduras would be today if he had succeeded on the Bay Islands....

B B Capryllian he did away with the anti-slavery laws. He was a genius.. Physician, and lawyer by 25, but he had a pretty messed up idea of governing people..

Odd you think they would of destroy his body, but they buried him and fence him off like he was Billy the Kid?(Also fence off) Just find it odd they buried him is all. I would of left him to the crows.

I was wondering the same thing. Walker even has a small name tag on his tomb stone and was actually burried in a local cemetery in Honduras I would have thought as ruthless as he was, to be left and scattered.
