Man I wish I had this problem. This is my first year trying this out and all of my bees decided to nest in the telephone pole behind my house that has all the woodpecker holes in it. Needless to say I'm devastated especially after buying the houses, reeds and nesting blocks. But I am happy they at least stayed in the area so maybe next year.

As long as you keep the house in its place and add a few native flowers near the house, you'll get bees to nest.

I’ve read that you should not turn them upside like that due to the larvae will be pulled away from the pollen. I normally do the same but keep them horizontal

Great question! By storing the reeds with the clay side up, you ensure that the egg (pupa) is positioned on top of the pollen loaf. This natural orientation mimics how the bees construct their nests in the wild. It also allows the developing bee to access the stored pollen easily during its growth.
