If entire shot is recorded from each person's perspective, that means the same shot is recorded twice once from each side? Please clarify ..if so, how can you maintain same emotion for multiple takes?

Great video, just a quick question. Between cuts and repositioning of the camera, do you use the audio from the master shot throughout all the other scenes or you use the audio recorded in each of all the other scenes?
@FilmPunk
@FilmPunk 8 месяцев назад
Personally I use the audio per take to edit with and then swap out audio if for some reason one shot is better audio. But with a good sound mixer they should be identical

One of the best lessons I've seen. Curious, with 4k resolution becoming more common in filming, can't we just zoom in on post and not lose resolution since we're exporting in HD? Thank you for posting!
@FilmSkills
@FilmSkills 3 года назад
You certainly can, and that's a good option, but remember that there's a big difference between digitally zooming into an image in post and optically pushing in using the lens - optically is always better because the depth of field will be more believable.

So when you made 3 shots into six, did you just crop? Or did you change lenses for the closer ups? Or same lens and move up?
@FilmSkills
@FilmSkills 2 года назад
I changed lenses. Its ideal to either change lenses or move the camera, but only crop if you absolutely have to- it never looks as good changing lenses.

in movies, do they plan these shots at the time of the shooting or is it all planned to the minutest details at the time of scripting the movie

@aliuyusuf9557

Does this mean that the characters would have to repeat their conversation if am using a single camera and would like to get a master shot, over the shoulder shot and the reverse over the shoulder shot? To be clear, does this mean the conversation would have to be repeated thrice?
@FilmSkills
@FilmSkills 2 года назад
You need to shoot as many takes as you need to capture the right performance. Assuming your actors are well-rehearsed, you can shoot each camera set-up in 3-4 takes, assuming the focus is sharp, the boom pole doesn’t dip into frame, the camera move is correct, etc. That’s why hiring experienced film crews and actors is so important. It saves you time and money in the long run.

Another way this story could go just by simply changing the editing and coverage is by over lapping the male character's audio a bit with the women applying make up reinforces the idea that she's more focused on the make-up than him. We can think of the camera being a Pov shot in this manner where we're not looking at the man despite hearing him, we are focused on the make-up. You could even go in for a close up on the make-up to give more attention to this idea. Maybe the mirror is at a slight angle to show more of the room suggesting that the character is even more vein because they are looking to see if people are watching her like the man claimed. Keep it on a close up with the man still talking until he reaches a critical point where she snaps the case close and finally he has her full attention and the camera gets to have him in the shot again. Symbolizing that it's a two way conversation. There are so many means of visually telling a story.
@FilmSkills
@FilmSkills 3 года назад
That’s exactly right. And when you shoot proper coverage on set, you’ll then have the option to play around with different ways of telling the story in the editing room. I like to say that we make three movies - the first is in our minds when we write the screenplay. The second is what the movie becomes with real actors and locations, and the third movie is the story we ultimately end up with in the editing room.
@Dumezulu

Great vid. But it's the type of topic that is ripe to include info on cutting on action.
@FilmSkills
@FilmSkills Год назад
Except this is a video on shooting coverage on set. Cutting on motion applies when editing, which we cover in the editing videos.
@georgerady9706
@georgerady9706 11 месяцев назад
The tighter the script the less you need to “fish” - which is the problem with shooting most content - the actors, directors even writers DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY REALLY ARE SAYING/DOING/THINKING… and/or - worse - do not want to ‘know’ in the hopes that they can just “throw something against the wall” and hope the audience “sticks it” for them… but it goes back to an old actor’s exercise “why are you crying?” “because I’m sad?” “What are you sad about?” 😳 One would be surprised how many times this still makes it past the editing floor and baked into the Final Cut… but you can bet a LOT of film/bitage, time and money was wasted on set because these questions were never asked… let alone answered.
