To be fair most red velvet singles have a dark undertone or theme. Ice cream cake, natural, rookie, dumb dumb, russian roulette, peek a boo, bad boy, psycho, monster, naughty. Girl they witches hahah
Michael Jcakson songs in the rap: Beat it Bad Billie Jean Leave me alone Black or white Man in the mirror Why you wanna trip on me Scream Love never felt so good Thriller
Hey Paul! The song is about how having a crush makes them freeze up like a *mannequin and make their minds go empty and feel dumb. So while the 'dumb dumb' sound is used as a musical focus it is also literally about a situation that makes them feel dumb. It was also Rolling Stone's #9 music video of the year in 2015, so I'm glad you checked it out! (P.S. Irene and Yeri are Red Velvet's rappers)
'This is so creative and so different.' That is soooo Red Velvet. What makes it exciting to stan them is not just their discography, they also have variety of concepts with different productions/mv. I was able to appreciate more details like the timing, the cloning and their great transitions because of your review.
The basic story to the M/V, when in young love, you become "dumb" when around your crush. You see so many shots that only have two colors in them because they are trying to point out the duality of your state of mind when in love. When in the factory shots, that has the meaning of being in the brain, sometimes they are times of order, and times of chaos. Not all Red Velvet M/Vs deal with murder, but check out how many times they use a table, it is referred as "Table Unnie", they also use many cars in their videos.
Agreed! But I have a i also believe the MV intentionally displays two theories. One being the one you explained, and two showing what going into the music industry is like. While yes it’s probably supposed to match the theme of the lyrics, if you do some further digging into other theories it kinda makes sense. But basically Red Velvet are the best😭
Dumb dumb (덤덤) means "being emotionless" or "being quiet" (in a situation where you shouldn't be) in Korean and the song is about you freezing or acting weird in front of someone you like. They picked a good title for this song imo lol
I've probably watched this a hundred times since its release yet I couldn't believe I still missed some of the details you pointed out 😂 It's pretty cool how seamless and quirky the editing is. You can really tell they spent a lot for the MV production! And yes that's Irene and she IS the Main Rapper so you got that right 😁
I love the 'red' RV's songs but not so much the 'velvet' ones, therefore i didn't really listen to them.... Buttttt this is catching my attention... What other songs are psychotic like that? 😂😂
Ripy UU was meant to look low quality like the old beach movies of Frankie and Annette/Gidget. A group of friends leaving the city for a vacation, fake beach sets and fake surfing, something happens to ruin the vacation and the “movie” romance is the song itself. ReVe Festival Day 2 was a retro concept album that people overlook without realizing all of the wonderfulness in the songs!!! Like Wendy’s dolphin notes in the retro vibe that is Ladies Night were done in 1 take.
Yes, I am super interested in how to sell in a script! I find your process similar to me raising money for a startup I partially own. Your script is like my tech, the harder part isn't necessarily developing the product, it is getting an investor (in your case netflix) interested in you and what you are trying to sell.
"Like it or not, Red Velvet is quite simply the most idiosyncratic amd joyous pop group from any country working today." - Chase McCullen "The 405 - Music and Culture Magazine."
Your videos are really a learning experience into the minds of the Production side of the MVs. I'm starting to recognise the things u say when I see MVs myself :)
Not sure if you’ve noticed yet but the girls all had different colours assigned to them from debut; they slightly messed around and played with it in this video but they tend to put at least 1 Easter egg of them in these colours in the video - in this case the aprons in the dance scene towards the end. Irene = pink, Seulgi = orange, Wendy = blue, Yeri = purple, Joy = green.
To sum up Red Velvet’s discography is for Smart People. *Experimental group, variety of instrumentals, mixing music genres, interesting concepts & memorable stories!*
love the little updates on your work/life you sometimes talk about at the beginning of videos😊 interesting insights into the job of a film director 😯 wishing u luck with that project))
i'm learning a lot by watching your reactions please react to more red velvet they have a lot of unique concept for their mvs i recommend: Automatic Rookie Power Up Cookie Jar
Hello Paul L GOOD LUCK with the Netflix Project!!!!!! We thoroughly enjoy most, if not all, of your reactions; and we definitely appreciate you taking a little time to show us some of how things in the industry work. Thx TakeCare...
Dumb Dumb was produced by VM Project Architecture. They have a very distinct aesthetic that I really love. For RV they also did Zimzalabim. They got their break with SM when they produced EXO's EXODUS album teaser and their Pathcode teasers in 2015. If you can, please do EXO-CBX's Blooming Day or EXO's Obsession which they also produced! Since I am mainly an EXO-L, I can only talk about what I've noticed from their releases. From what I know, the choreographers, especially if they're in-house, have a lot of say on how the dance portions are shot in the MVs and the live performances. They film a dance practice, with the choreographer doing the filming himself, and they send that video to the production company or the music show's directors so that they can see how they want those parts to be showcased. I can't say it happens all the time, but I've seen interviews where they talk about it.
i'm loving how much you're loving this hohohohoho i lose nothing leaving recs, other videos of a cute concept that i found particularly refreshing for the trend of pastel colors that i was just so done with back then: Love Bomb by fromis_9 which is simple but effective, Liar Liar by Oh My Girl that wonderfully leaned into the surreal dreamy proportions, Chococo by Gugudan that is just weird and unexpected and funny
ah i finally got around to watching this, i was a little too fixated on dreamcatcher's comeback to watch it before, but it's my favourite red velvet title track so i loved hearing your commentary. the song and music video honestly just never get boring.. would be interesting to see what you'd say about zimzalabim that's for sure
Good luck on the Netflix submission. Oooh RV's vids are good for this hehe they always have a slight psychological thriller/fantasy/horror feel. Gonna check other vids, I wanna see if you did their Psycho and Monster already.
This was a very funny reaction video! Please react to (G) I-DLE’s OH MY GOD next!;) The music video is creepy but beautiful at the same time and I would personally say that the music video is one of K-pop’s best!
I never noticed the wristbands in the bus. However, they are not all red. Each member has a color that identifies them. While Seulgi's color is yellow, she wears an orange wristband for this theme.
Actually one of the mv theory is that they are being manufactured in that mv that's why they are like dolls or robots.. it's like how people perceived idols (like they are just being manufactured to be all the same or something), it's like they are mocking those perceptions in this mv.
I have been waiting for this reaction!! Dumb Dumb didn't get in the Rolling Stone's top 10 list of best music videos of 2015 for nothing! This mv is a masterpiece! Please do RBB next! 🤩🤩
Have you already reacted to Red Velvet's Zimzalabim? The MV is cool but the most noticeable thing about it is really the song in itself, its structure, it would be a really fun listen.
Nooo im an hour late 😭😭 sup paul No killing for this music video LOL I love the aspect ratio of this one with the white bars At this point Red Velvet and tables have become an icon. Almost every music video they have have had at least a table shot with the five of them sitting together. Goodluck on the netflix thing!!
10:02 Is it possible that they did keep the camera still and did a digital zoom? But anyway, I really love the production design in this MV, everything is just so colorful and fun. And the contrast is awesome. I don't actively notice all the stuff that they add to keep our interest, so I'm glad you pointed that out!
@@r0ny2407 It's 'boring' because it's shot in a cinematic style. It doesn't use any editing tricks to increase energy either. The fact that it's shot so differently, and that it subverts your expectations makes it a great video for a director to react to. You're free to dislike the video, but I have a feeling he'd have a very different opinion than you if he reacted to it.
@@Bobbias well that is exactly why he shouldn't react to the video because there is nothing special about it besides the plot? I don't get intern fans are so all over it regardless lmao
