No smartphones, no computers, no special effects, elegant people - a great movie.

Why do we live our lives in yesterday? These Black & White movies just hug my family in such a wonderful way. Million Dollar Movies that used to come on Channel 5 or 11 with all these movies that had such a strong story content, it had it all,and the way the music would identify the good guy and the villian was something wonderful. PLEASE ,AND IM BEGGIN.......DONT STOP SHOWING THESE MOVIES !!!! The good People in this world still need them, so we can go home for an hour or two. O.K?

Film noir is truly my type of movie to watch the styles in clothing the cars, everything about it to me is like magic! A time like none other the golden days of hollywood! The stars of long ago they truly filled the bill while making these movies! Nothing in the viewing world of movies today comes near the atmosphere of the great "FILM NOIR" movie!!!

Just that one moment - such perfectly perfect acting - the few seconds Brian Donlevy takes to call and check after his crash and he immediately discovers the betrayal - he sits on the bench, and cries. Lady's and gentlemen, that was real acting. Real sorrow. Condensed agony. Just that one moment.

Wonderful old movie! I was so blessed to be born in 1948 and grow up watching these on our black and white tv. Great stories, great acting, no vulgarity no cursing - just my speed! Thank you for posting this!!

now that i'm retired, Thank God for TCM, and MoviesNetwork, i'm catching up on everything i missed, i watch these older films every chance i get, especially what is considered the "B"(not so popular ones).....I think they are excellent, better acting, believable scripts and acting, excellent storylines, i love to see how they interact, what they wear, and especially if shot on location or even if it was a backlot they tried to make it look real, the 30's or 40's or 50's....older cars, street lamps, buildings, etc......

What a GREAT movie!! Right plot, right acting, right twists, and a real love plot in a Film-Noir! Couldn't get any better.

A real classic. Began watching, then realized immediately that I'd seen it already, a couple of years ago. I thought I'd just watch another few minutes while the dinner finished cooking, but became hooked into it again - it's just so good, plot, characters, acting - and have watched the whole film again. Just top quality. Definitely of its time, but, as with so many old films, it really is rewarding to be reminded of those times. Of course there were many things very wrong in human society in the 1940s, but just look at the way things are portrayed here - the incidental things, as much as anything. The manners, the way folk spoke, the promise in basic human decency and a more or less inevitable progress towards good, however slow, that was in the air then, all over the world, not just the USA [I'm English]. Our society now contains many improvements and good new ideas, but compared to those times we have degenerated into a world of top-level lies, intolerance, and mass hysteria steered by the worst human natures, who work their mischief in underhand ways, manipulating, with the help of technology and language, the emotions and fears of ordinary citizens. I don't know anyone who has lived through all the years since 1949 who feels that this world is better than that one. Sorry about that. Out of place here. After all, good times, bad times, perhaps its just a natural cycle. Anyway, anyone wondering whether to watch this film, do so. It's well-constructed, plain, and very good storytelling. Very satisfying. Thank you, uploader.

I love watching theses old films and seeing the amazing cars and clothes. Everyone was dressed up and wore hats and dressed up for dinner or to go to a show.

Call me a cornball, but at 53 yrs old, and with an Old Soul to begin with, this movie is precisely what the doctor ordered. 👍🏻

Any movie with Charles Coburn in it is made better by his sheer presence & phenomenal acting ability. Very enjoyable film!

Brilliant acting by Brian Donlevy; his interpretation of the self- made man from working class is complex, believable and touching. There are several moments that are truely great. He is that character, self-assured, well centered and having a good sense of self-worth, which is the necessary prerequisite to be soft, friendly and calm towards his wife, house maid, and, one might presume, also in his interactions with friends, family and subordinates. It happens in real life quite often that people misinterpret a person like the one portrayed by Brian Donlevy as week and sometimes stupid. His only weekness was his trust in his wife. However, I just wanted to thank ccc for making classics like this available for all of us.

Watched this movie again, the 3rd time. Very enjoyable. Brian Donlevy was a great actor.

This film kept my attention every minute! Brian Donlevey was the husband every woman dreams of and I was routing for him every step of the way. ' Ma ' was a great character. The kind of woman we all want for our mother. Thank you for making it possible for us to see this film.

One of the few movies I can watch over and over and never get tired of it.

The Music !!!!! These composers and conductors were way better then what is in movies today. These people went through hell in their lives and the music reflects that richness without sound effects. These movie are nothing without it.

I do love many of these old black & white movies. Great plots with a storyline, the actors, the dialog. Too many of modern movies is just visual stimuli, car crashes, excess gunfire, explosions, etc. Gratuitous visual stimuli is not bad but many, not all, older movies know how to fit it in and still hook me on a plot.

Brian Donlevy was a great unassuming actor and always liked any Charles Coburn movie.

I just love all these old films when everything seemed to have a touch of class.

I love these old movies. I am felt so bad for the poor husband. He loved her so much and did things for her and she didn't know what she had. She should have just left if she didnt love him anymore. He loved her enough to make sure she would have been okay. Why do people have to go so far as to hurt others. No wonder no one trusts anyone anymore. 🤔

The actor who plays Lt. Quincy, Charles Coburn, was born in 1877. That's just 12 years after the Civil War ended. Kind of puts things in perspective from a time standpoint.

I have a dvd of this movie. This version looks very sharp by comparison. I've seen it numerous times and it has never lost it's appeal.

I so enjoyed this. I usually watch old black and white movies on Sundays, but I came across this gem on a Saturday and decided to watch. Glad I did.

" Well, I absolutely love old black and white films, BUT NOT all. This I would highly recommend. Great script, great actors and a fabulous plot. It was also very suspenseful and music was perfectly added in the right place. A thriller with a romantic twist and Charles Coburn as an investigator it doesn't get much better. Thank you for presenting this Cult Cinema Classics.

I hadn’t met Ella Raines till I saw this movie for the first time recently. What a doll!

I love the part where the mother assures Bill Walker that she didn't and wouldn't tell her daughter about what she learned from the news clippings she found in his drawer. It is so ethical. And his response: "How can a little woman be so big?"

I really liked this movie. I especially liked the fact that he continued on with his career with a better wife at the end.

This one was a real cliff hanger. I was on the edge of my seat near the end. Wonderful plot line and acting.

I must admit this was a surprisingly wonderful movie. You just can't replace good old black and white. At 64, I had never heard of this movie and I was raised on these oldies. It somewhat reminded me of Niagara with Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotton, except this one had a rather sad ending. Impact had beautiful clothes and really cool cars and no obscenity nor nudity. They just don't make them like this anymore. 🌹

Didn't expect to find so much poignancy and sweetness in a film-noir movie with the themes of sacrifice, truth, and justice being prevalent. And did I actually see people go to church and pray? GASP! 😲 Plus an intricate mystery and suspenseful plot. It highlights forensics way before CSI ever came along. Thanks for another quality upload of a quality film. LL 🙋🏻‍♀️

Helen Walker's performance was outstanding. Her expressions when she first saw Walter at the jail, and in the courtroom were amazing that she didn't even need to speak!! Her eyes and mannerisms said it all.

I like to see old movies, women's dresses, a lot of elegance, well-dressed people, cars from that time.

This ranks up there with the best Film Noir movies I’ve seen. When I saw the run time, I thought I might not make it almost two hours. When it ended, I was wishing for more. What a brilliant plot!!! Loved every minute of it! Thanks for sharing!

Good to see Anna May Wong. She was a rising star In the 20s and 30s but Hollywood was afraid to cast her as a leading lady because of her Chinese heritage and in spite of her beauty and talent.

There is the scene where Donlevy's character suddenly realizes he has been betrayed by this person he cared so much for - and it is a heartbreaking moment in the film. Don't miss it.....Donlevy comes apart. Something to see. Fine, a touching... acting job, BTW....

I cannot reccomend this movie any more highly... great plot and it shows scenes of SF and Sausalito as it really was back in 1949. The building where the Williams' live is called the Brocklebank and was the residence of Gavin & Madeline Elster in Vertigo (Nob Hill). and of course the fantastic Miss Anna May Wong!

I love this film, just watched it a few weeks ago on another site, then found it here on RU-vid. From the scheming femme fatale to the suspenseful pursuit of the truth to the understated but heartfelt love between the two leads, this is a classic film noir in every way.

This movie is where I “met” Ella Raines for the first time, to my lifelong delight.

It is so refreshingly good to watch old movies, especially this one. There are no profanities.

Saying, "It was a great movie" might be an understatement. And so I say, "it is ok by me boss" having seen this great movie.

I keep coming back to rewatch this wonderful film.

One way to tell how good a movie is - is how many times do you enjoy watching it over and over?? I have seen this movie at least 4 or 5 times. I know I will watch it again. Nothing about it seems great. But, it has no wasted scenes. No wasted dialogue. I dare you to watch it for 10 minutes and not be grabbed by it. You will fail. You will love it.

Suspence from begin to end with an awesome unpredictable story line so refreshing .
