I saw a blast of xenon bulb. A cold lamp can make a huge boom and flying shards can damage the body seriously. But the presure in hot lamp is very much higher than in a cold one. The lamp heats up quickly when it is on and it can burst in every moment. Very hot shards (approx. 800 degrees Celsius) can make more damage than cold ones. Also they have higher speed because the higher pressure of hot lamp. So don"t look to the burning lamp. It generates a lot of UV and it can make sunburns quickly.

I miss running 20 projectors. It's really a great job, although it doesn't pay well,

That actually happened to me. After that I always double checked to make sure I had the ring secured in the platter!
@movie534
@movie534 7 лет назад
Its when the film wraps around the mechanism that feeds out the film from the platter. it gets tight and the film eventually snaps and breaks
@ngonz89

Brilliant! lol the print falling off the platter is my worst nightmare

I could imaging on how difficult it is to clean up after the print has fallen on the ground. I know one time one employee at my theater accidentally took out the center ring and still tried to break down the film and the film basically fallen on the ground I was glad I didn't have to clean it up. But in my time as a projectionist I had to clean some trailers off the ground like 2 times one times was my fault and another time was another employee fault and beside mistakes happen.

what do you do if your projector actually get caught on fire? few weeks ago one of the projector was on fire because my manager wanted me to turn on all projector bulb to check to see which screen needs cleaning and no film was going though the projector and the projector bulb was giving enough heat to start a fire luckily the fire was contained just to the projector. could have been worse like a building burning down.

That must be a very expensive seminar!! specially the technological intervention of turning a projector into a digital projector! Let me tell you folks; this guys know exactly what they are talking about; I tried the screen door approach; and it works all day; ha ha ha ha ha ha .

3:45 is not funny - once had this for real in the middle of a print, someone else /my boss\ had build to the platter - the staples ruined a pair of nearly new delrin slide-vats I had commissioned to be made customly for our old Philips projector -.- and CP200 is such a nice unit - the only Dolby garbage unit that has the option to play back our good old german Klangfilm Mono soundtracks^^

And its no wonder that I lost my job as a projectionist after 37 years. Idiots like this is why digital put me out of work. I was a true professional, as was my father who was a projectionist for 55 years.

+movie534 You do realize this is satire? These guys are some of the best in the US.
@Germannio
@Germannio 8 лет назад
+lovitz69 In that case, if these ones are the best in US. how will be the worst!. Don't forget that USA and their multinationals were precisely the only guilties of TRUE MOVIE have been eliminated from the rest of the world. In Spain all film laboratories were purchaded by Technicolor and De-Luxe, with the sole purpose of being closed down leaving as a "tip" to all their proffesionals unemployed after 4 or 5 years; the last laboratory closed down in the spring of 2014. Why we (the rest of the world) must to bear such a colonialist dictarorship??????? NOT TO DIGITAL MOVIES!!!!!!!
@lovitz69
@lovitz69 8 лет назад
Germannio These guys in the video are professionals doing things wrong for a laugh. It's obviously not the way 35mm is to be handled. Those of us who have years in the booth already know this, but the scary thing is, that kids that dont know any better might think this is for real.

I was trained by a true great!!!! I am still proud of the craft that I learned at the age of 14. I was building and breaking down movies, dealing with Heads or tails, scope or flat at an early age. I started with the giant reel system and learned how to operate the platters when I was 17. I still remember my first brain wrap! Cinema employees don't know how easy they have it now!!!

I found this video really disrespectful about the real job of a booth operator or projectionist. Even some film material have been mistreated to do it. Besides, in these days in which we are witnessing the real film disappearance, it seems almost humiliating for a proven good technology from decades that are deliberately being left to fall in obsolescence in favour of new digital ones, and for their professionals that are watching how his jobs are being eliminated day after day.
@lovitz69
@lovitz69 8 лет назад
+Germannio It's disrespectful to morons who have no business being in the booth to begin with.
