For those confused, there are multiple canons of the Backrooms. MatPat is taking about Kane's personal canon, not the wiki, liminal archives or the fandom.

I think that the "Don't move, stay still" wall writing isn't telling you to stay still when the Monster is around, but rather to not move once you have landed in the Backrooms until you have a reason to.

Imagine if you no-clipped into the backrooms and saw MatPat staring at a wall and furiously scribbling down something in his notebook

Honestly the concept of being trapped in never ending corridors is horrifying enough without needing a tri pod monster

Imagine going into the backrooms and just seeing him wandering the backrooms and taking notes.

Just the feeling of being alone and trying to escape a monster in some kind of an endless maze is absolutely terrifying

One nitpick: The throwing shoes at the ceiling seems very disadvantageous. We know that the monster can hear and see so as soon as you start throwing stuff around and making noise, it'll probably eventually find out your location.

I feel like it's worthy to point out that I'm pretty sure he's talking about the lore in Kane's video's since there's a few differences from the wiki and Kane's videos about Level 0. And yes, there's more than one level, a lot more.

So I know I’m late, like a LOT, but here are some things that I noticed Do not look in the filing cabinets, there can possibly be an entity waiting in there, and you won’t be able to escape it once you open it. And with the ceiling, (you can fact check me on this) I’m pretty sure that hounds, one of the entities in the backrooms, can fall from the ceiling, so they are most likely in that little space between the ceiling and the hanging ceiling. That’s all, but you can fact check me on all of that!

About the vents, there's one potential issue with that. I've seen some non-official cannon things where dog like creatures with human heads reside in the air ducts. Of course this may not apply to the official backrooms, however it brings up the very important possibility that there may be more unseen danger in the vents then in the maze.

Kane did something amazing. He gave the backrooms a proper backstory while respecting many of the original ideas. He's got by far the best idea for the story.

About the drop ceilings Mat I used to be a maintenance man and have worked with them. I do not believe they'd be able to support a humans weight; while your description of them was correct the metal frames that hold the panels in place in my experience have always be fairly thin with just a wire holding the actual frame itself up. Now normally they are connected to wooden beams above and beside those wooden beams are thinner sheets of wood (like plywood or something sadly I'm not well educated in building construction, materials, etc) perhaps you could bust through that. Not sure if it would lead anywhere but I do agree you could follow the wires in the drop ceiling. I'm sure someone has brought this up before but I hadn't seen anything and figured I'd say something. Love the vids though buddy!

I followed this guide and managed to escape the backrooms. Thank you so much. Now the problem is that i felt in a reality that is basically a dystopian nightmare on the verge of a nuclear war and i can't find a way to noclip back in the backrooms....

If the backrooms really existed there would totally be people trying to get in to do the backrooms challenge and find their way back out.

For anyone wondering, the Frontrooms isn't just a meme, it's an actual part of lore in the Backrooms universe. The frontrooms is supposedly our original plain of existence, where Earth and everything else is before you clip into the Backrooms.

The only problem with leaving traces and tracks for yourself is that you're also leading the enemy straight to you.

I’m guessing what Kane was trying to explain putting 91 on the Clapboard even though the video was dated 1996 was that they didn’t find the camcorder with the footage until years later. Either that or time passes faster in the Backrooms.

To help with the ceiling tile method, there's a method I learned from Minecraft, hit the holes onto the right side of the ceiling. The trick is that if you ever lose your way in a cave system, your torches on the wall will lead you back if you put them exclusively on the right side of the cave wall. With this method, you'd know if you were following a path you had already taken or had accidentally turned around, alternatively if you happened to make a campsite in the backrooms, you'd know how to find your way back to it.

I think the scariest thing about the backrooms is being alone and slowly going insane. Being stuck in a huge area all alone is definitely one of my biggest fears

The issue with crawling into the false ceiling cavity is that typically those false ceilings cannot support any decent amount of weight. And definitely couldn't support the weight of any average human, they are usually only suspended from the real ceiling... You might be able to crawl along where the walls/roof meets because the wall should have weight baring capacity but that will be highly restrictive if the walk you are on doesn't connect to an outter wall.

One thing to consider though is that we don’t know whether the monster can hear us and how good his hearing is, so making signs in the wall or throwing an object to make the roof move will make mass amounts of sounds. The monster could easily find you before you have an good lay out of the maze.

Disclaimer: all this tips work only in the kane's version of the backrooms, in "reality" the level 0 of the backrooms has either no monsters and no items, so, you'll be safe, and the only confirmed way get of there is to no-clip of there (which is basically getting out of bounds in real life) so wandering around is completely useless

I think the creepiest version of the backrooms is where there are no entities and everything is just empty. The thought of being alone and wandering those rooms forever is the most terrifying

I would like to see someone who called into the backroom, and use all those advices to try to survive.

The backrooms monster may actually be blind, but have really good senses such as hearing and smell.

I’d say to be careful with all of these strategies- we don’t know the intelligence of this monster. It could be able to read, failing that it’s more likely it could follow your trails right to you and even try to lead you off into the depths. Throwing shoes is loud and provides falling obstacles and a solid pathway for everything to follow. Also horror strategy rules state do NOT use the crawlspace

It’s actually insane how there are literal BILLIONS of backrooms levels all uniquely designed and all uniquely terrifying. As well as tons of terrifying monsters and actually the creatures we se in kane’s backrooms are the dullers, large amalgamations of hardened carpet fluid which is a acidic when in contact with skin but harmless if using gloves or clothes. This is all lore stuff. And for those who say it’s not infinite you are right and wrong because the levels are billions of miles but there are levels that you simply cannot leave.

this reminds me of the book called house of leaves, about a house that has an endlessly deep labyrinth that supposedly appear out of nowhere with a monster inside, and drives people insane. Even the text starts to fall apart in the book as you get closer to finding the truth. I highly recommend!

The ladder could also be a useful weapon against the monster.

Funfact: after 4 days of wandering around in the backrooms you'll find a way to the next level automatically. So if everything fails, that's the last option. Also time works differently so you probably won't get hungry or need sleep for multiple days or even weeks. The only thing you need to worry about is survival and sanity

The version with a lore is a lot more fun, but the original is a lot scarier in terms of existential dread

Step 7: always conceal carry in order to have a starting weapon when you clip out of bounds. It may not work or be effective, but at least you have a ranged option. This would also provide a very loud sound option to use as decoy.

It's really fun to see the different levels due to how different they are

Only way to escape the back rooms is to no clip back out of it, as it isn’t a physical building but it’s own reality. Any “exit” you find or crawling through the ceiling will most likely just lead you to a different level of the back rooms.

I'd love to watch a series where Mat is trying to scape a place like this. An extended series as the time they created a puzzle video series would be awesome

When you scrap the wall with your belt or key, throw your shoe at the ceiling or make any noise. Would it attract any attention from the monsters to your location.

Considering that this is only level zero of the backrooms: Notably this level has the specific trait of isolation, even if you clip into the backrooms with other people you will end up on your own

I would love to see you cover a backrooms game some time as well (even if it's not Enter The Backrooms XD) If you want to explore the alternate "levels" of the Backrooms that people are talking about, the game has PLENTY of those. It also has entities, items, an insanity mechanic, and more. It's the biggest backrooms game on the market right now, so I recommend it to all Backrooms fans! =)

This is basically a trapdoor spider method: food falls in and now you must track it down in the tunnel system which you make as your web. This might help with additional strategies.

Personally, I believe that the best version of the Backrooms has no monsters. There is no escape, it is simply an eternal punishment for trying to fiddle with reality itself.

Matt, you should apologize for using Established Titles as a sponsor. I’m a huge fan of what you do, and it absolutely shocks me to find out you didn’t do more due diligence on the sponsors you accept. It has wrecked your credibility in my eyes, and I think that is also true of every single creator who took the money and ran with Established Titles. You should not only refund everyone who made a purchase through your channel’s promotion, but you should take the amount of money in purchases and actually donate it to a charity which plants trees. For the record my friend, this is the reason why the media doesn’t take creators seriously the way they should. This is why they treat them all like children, because they demonstrate a fundamental lack of due diligence, care, and credibility when interacting with their audiences. The same duty of care to your business, employees, and community which you have mentioned before also extends to your viewers, which is reflected in the kinds of sponsors you accept on your channel. It is true that the majority of your sponsors were never shown to be scams, but all it takes is one bad apple to wreck years of hard earned trust and rapport with your viewers. That is why you have to consider the risk and the reward of aligning yourself with any sponsor, which I’m sure you already do. This event will hopefully teach you that due diligence needs to be thorough and consistent when vetting sponsors. I think you know that even a slightly more rigorous due diligence process on your part would’ve revealed the company to be suspicious at best and fraudulent at worst. I won’t stop being a fan of your work, as there really is no other creator who does what your team does, but I’d be lying if I didn’t share how disappointing it is to learn about this debacle involving your channel. There was once an episode of the Mythbusters where the tested a myth that involved getting out of a car that is sinking in water. For those who have not seen that episode they discovered that if you stay calm, have all of your windows rolled up, and wait till the car stops and the water pressure equalizes .....you can open the door and swim to the surface and survive. A while later the Mythbusters got a letter explaining how their episode actually saved the life of a mother and her child who's car fallen from a bridge into a bed of water just under it. I get the feeling that this episode will definitely be saving lives for anyone who suddenly wakes up trapped in a building they don't know the layout of (either by random time portals or an actual kidnapping) Great survival advice here 👍

This plan falls apart if there are also entities in the tight ceiling. It would make sense to have something more dangerous in the ceiling and vents compared to the ground floors instead of it being a ticket to victory. Their bodies are probably specialized to maneuver quickly and efficiently in narrow spaces. Like dangerous, more exaggerated creepy crawlies. If you meet one in a crawlspace there’s no way you’re escaping them.

7:02 This doesn't work. If you vandalize the walls, they will regenerate or return to their original form, similar to how most video game environments reset. At least this is my personal experience that you cannot permanently alter the environment of the backrooms. It adds to the hopelessness and the oppressive atmosphere.

11:04 - I agreed with a LOT of the logic in this vid, at least insofar as how Kane's version of the Backrooms works, _except_ for this point. You could not PAY me to go anywhere NEAR a closed dumpster that I _can't see into from a distance_ when there's horrifying monsters about, let alone a _suspiciously convenient rope_ that _just so happens_ to be laying right next to it. My knee-jerk reaction on seeing the rope next to the dumpster is to think it's bait to lure in foolish prey (humans) for whatever's hiding in the dumpster to grab, and put as _generous_ an amount of distance as possible between myself and it.

I was reading a Ray Bradbury story called “Trapdoor” for the first time last night…and boy did it have the feel of the Backrooms no-clip at the end!

Hot take: the internet ruined the backrooms with all the levels and entities. The idea of overwhelming infinite loneliness was much greater then the weird death maze the internet made it

The issue with discovering this, is that my nightmares are literally this. Having somewhere to be or go and getting anywhere but, turns going nowhere, things constantly holding me back and stopping me from getting where I need to be. And they can go on for ages, I mean feel like a literal hour. So I wonder how long it is until I wake up in a yellow corridor

One time while bored while I was still in High School, I made a little figure out of unbent and twisted paperclips. The Backrooms monster strangely looks a lot like that figure I made.

Yeah, if I ended up somewhere like that, I'd be more concerned about being in a Cube scenario. Also, while a lot of what Mat said is good advice for real life being lost scenarios, there's so much extra concern from not knowing the physics or in this case, the creatures of the place. Going up into the ceiling could entirely be different physics, or different living things to be worried about up there. Also, while 99% of us probably wouldn't take wall scribblings as advice, part of me would really want to try staying perfectly still since that was the literal only advice anywhere to be found in that video.
