As a chemistry teacher, seeing all those representations of the CO2 molecule with bent geometry rather than the correct linear geometry really annoys me. Despite that, I appreciate all the research and number-crunching and especially the “introducing key scientific concepts and spreading awareness of global issues to laypeople in an entertaining way”. Really love the work you guys put out in this and I’m gonna miss you, Mat! Thank you for all these years!

Love the research that went into this, the only thing that seem to be missed is all the modifications they made to the cars. They regularily change the engines, so the fuel consumption may be worse and as a result the numbers may be off, but by how much? no clue

I don't think we should be looking for the green, it's probably 6:54 "faf" since its in red and matches the color of the channel, but the issue is that it also matches "Fast and Furious", so if there's another code or glitch in red, please share!

I have no clue why I wasn't expecting the lesson at the end. This is MatPAt, taking what he loves to do some silly math, connecting silly dots, and giving applicable life lessons.

This doesn't seem like a dumb theory at all, really, the educational portion that's always there was informative, too. Hopefully the FandF franchise will go electric eventually and Vin Diesel will play Captain Planet in the eventual live-action movie if Don Cheadle is not available.

I appreciate that this puts the blame where it belongs, on companies. We COULD be cruising around on cross country trains and streetcars, but instead we have car cars killing the Earth cause they're more profitable.

Fast and Furious has been a nostalgic movie all my life despite the rates on them. I still love the franchise till this day and to see MatPat reviewing this theory as one of his last theories just made me melt. I love you and your content dude! We'll miss you once you're gone but it's for a good cause. I'll be watching till the end.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that you made a theory on my favorite franchise! So many people dismiss FandF as just another dumb action franchise (which it totally is) but it's also so much more. It's a dumb action franchise that involves all kinds of Easter eggs that only car guys will see, and loads of great humor. Their just a bunch of friends who don't want to have to save the world every Tuesday.

This is one of the best videos the channel has made in years. It is actually an old school mathy theory and the reason I used to love this channel SO much.

Just gonna put this in here. During the part that MatPat was talking about how Brian and Mia drove from Los Angeles to Rio De Janeiro got me thinking, how long would that take...? Then I looked at Google maps and found that there are no roads past Yaviza Panama. The road literally just ends at a river port. Unless they got some kind of ferry to float them to somewhere that could get them into Colombia to drive the rest of the way to Rio De Janeiro, their trip ended right at an airport in Southern Panama. Or that car they were driving had some amazing jungle trekking capabilities. Unless I'm somehow reading Google maps wrong. Just found that fascinating.

It was actually really interesting seeing real science applied to movies that are so completely absurd. It is also surprising just how little emissions there are across these movies. I too thought it would be a lot more than 3 hours in New York, and it is actually shocking to hear. I think if we can come up with a more eco-friendly approach to planes, then we have a much better chance of sorting the greenhouse gas emissions problem, as it's all good for us to switch to an EV, but while we still have planes going about all day, emitting far more than we can in our lifetime, the problem is much more difficult to fix. Thank you, MatPat. I can't believe there's only 3 left.

Fast and the Furious really is one of the GOAT franchises. First 4 were good, but 5, 6 & 7 were the best. 8 & 9 were ok, 10 was pretty good.

Just a note about the rocket: Now i havn't actually watched the movie, but with rockets, it really depends on the fuel. Nowadays, the most common fuel mixtures are Kerolox (Kerosine and liquid oxygen, mostly used nowadays by russian and russian derived LVs), Methalox (Methane and oxygen, used by SpaceX and probably others too), and Hydrolox (Hydrogen and oxygen, used by everyone and their mother). Notably, for this discussion, Hydrolox rockets do not emit any CO2 in operation. Sure, you need to produce the fuel somehow, but how much CO2 that produces depends on how the power for this is produced. Hydrolox, when burnt, produces various hydrogen-oxygen compounds, chief among them, plain old water (though it should be noted here that water vapor is, indeed, a greenhouse gas, if only a very weak one, and what little water is emitted from the rocket probably has fairly little impact on the total amount of water vapor in the atmosphere). Kerolox and Methalox, however, very much do produce CO2, though which is better, i cannot say, i'd have to look up the reactions for both up. We also should consider that this rocket uses solid rocket boosters, which can run on all sorts of nasty fuels. some of which, i am sure, produce CO2 or some other greenhouse gas.

I'm not a scientist but Ik a good bit a about cars and I dont think this is very accurate. Most of the cars in this franchise r modded, one of the most popular mods or even the most popular is catback straight pipe, Either taken the muffler out or the cats or both would surely make those numbers go higher bc the gasses r being realese well not muffled, plus thats without getting into running e85, flame tunes, upgrade turbos, bigger injectors etc Dont get me wrong it is hard to calculate all those things but im sure the number would be so much higher if they took mods into consideration Either way thx for the video ill miss u when u leave, grew up watching your videos big fan

An individual's carbon footprint doesn't matter. What matters is the pollution from organizations like companies and governing bodies. Holding orgs accountable is infinitely more important than tracking your own personal use.

In my opinion, no theory is a dumb theory. It's just a theory. One that can get people thinking about stuff they otherwise wouldn't think about, like which faction emits more carbon dioxide into the air in total, which Sesame Street character is more likely to be a Deftones fan, which M&M's spokescandy is more likely to be an anime fan, What clothing would be more practical on an F-Zero racer, etc. Theories like these can really open people's minds about the many things, as little as they can be, and can enhance their creativity. They can also trigger the theorist in us at an exponential rate, if we let them of course. Who said your theory was dumb, anyway? You. That's who. You say it's dumb because of your own insecurities and low self-esteem, so here's my advice: Don't worry about what other people think of your theory, and don't beat yourself up over it. Make it because you want to and share it with the world. It's how we got to where we are now, with social media, forums, computers, and AI, and these are only the larger-scale stuff. On a smaller scale, they can also get people to reinterpret and recontextualize things and dive deeper into everything about a work: its plot, its characters, the characters' potential motivations for doing what they do, the potential system running on racism, a supposedly happy place that is actually a place full of toxicity, etc. So in conclusion, your theory isn't dumb. In fact, it's a reinterpretation theory. Come to think of it, a theory is a system of ideas intended to explain something in order to leave room for reinterpretation, recontextualization and progress. Dumb describes something that is made with low intelligence. With that being said, how exactly can something like your theory be dumb? Especially when it's about how much carbon dioxide was being emitted into the air in the entire Fast & Furious franchise? It may be a theory that nobody asked for or even care about, but it's certainly not *dumb*. You put a lot of your heart and soul into it and shared it with the world and that's what matters most.

Love how Matpat usually finds an odd pattern that shows how we can be pushed to think a certain way. That google search about carbon emissions and having it flipped on us is wild. I would never have taken thought twice about it otherwise. Need to pick up matpats ability to do this

During 2020 I also found myself liking this franchise a lot... went to theaters to watch Fast X, didn't expect it to be a two-parter, but happy about it! (or is it 3 parts?) Anod about that airplane runway, it's akin to that old soccer anime, can't remember the name. But each time they were playing a game of soccer it took what seemed like days! How big is that soccer field!?

First of all: Great video. Really enjoyed the theory and THANK YOU SO MUCH for explaining that companies are the main villain when it comes to carbon emissions. I think it is so sick that 90% of all people I talk to think that they are the main problem because companies spend a lot of money on advertising just to make it seem as if the average Joe has the power to stop climate change and they aren't doing anything wrong. Never seen anyone talk about that on a channel of this size.

I've seen these in the theater since the first one in the 90s and, despite their amazing stupidity, they will always have a special place in my heart. It made me realize why so many people watch "pro wrestling". It's fake. We know it's fake. But it's fun and we love it.

carbon footprint is such a useful way to realize how much everyday life effects the atmosphere and such, but it also sucks that the term was coined by BP (yes, the oil company) so that you would be too distracted by what YOU were doing wrong that you wouldn't pay attention to them. Which is odd, like you tell people "basically everything electrical you do is based off of fossil fuels and pollution" and they go "oh man I should fix that about myself" instead of saying "what the heck is my government doing still burning coal in 2024?"

I would love to see is some fun film theory vids of media I think Mat/Lee would enjoy. One of them is called "Something under the dirt". It is a movie full of lore and mysteries. The other is on the yt channel "Shilo and bros". They have irl stories and have recently added lore to their videos that I think Mat/Lee would enjoy going over and piecing everything together. They are also fans of the Mat and would be astounded to have a theory made about them and their content.

My biggest movie suggestion to you would be Escanaba in da Moonlight! Who is created by Jeff daniels. For those of you who don't know who Jeff Daniels is, he plays Harry Dunn in the Dumb and Dumber franchise. He's been in a lot of other really good movies too, but those are usually the ones people remember him the most from. The movie is so good and memorable you will be saying a few certain lines from the movie for the rest of your life.....😅

If we are talking about carbon footprint I think we should also consider how you get electricity to your house. If you are using renewable green energy then all the footprint is what is used to make them. But most other ways you get your energy, especially coal are really heavy on the atmosphere.

This doesn’t take into account that the vehicles probably emit more since they ain’t stock. Remember Hector is out there running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

The part about the contracts determining how the fight scenes played out reminded me of the negotiations between Disney and Warner Bros. for "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?", where there were strict rules about characters having the same screen time as their counterparts and how they could (or couldn't) interact. 😆
