It's all about the cost too. Keep in mind, anyone who needs to hear it, that you can buy this body, the three sigma primes, and a gimbal for the cost of just the FX3 body. Very value laden for the aspirant videographer.
Absolutely. I always live by the law of diminishing returns. Will the fx3 or fx6 make me substantially more money than the fx30? Nope, not with the video work I do.
@@darpinomedia9619 I have both but that's just because Sony was locking crop out of 4k60, which is a framerate I think is very important for what I do. Had the 30 and 3 came out in tandem, I would be like five grand ahead and owning just the 30. Its real-estate. Clients are gonna watch on a phone and the video is going to get chewed up by MLS's encoder anyhow.
@Darpino Media i want to see like the viltrox 13mm, different cheap lenses, zeiss 35mm lens...stuff like that on it. How it lols with Phantom Luts, 10-bit XAVCS-I Footage...G-Master lenses on it. That type of content that no one else is doing.
4:36... and you are absolutely on point. Reminding everyone that about 80% of big production films we see are produced with Super35 sensor cameras is crucial, because it's more than time to understand they are tools. And same as for all of them : if you know how to use them properly, the job shall be more than clean. Even more than that if the operator has some sort of talent ! I would not trade my FX30 for another camera, it gets me more than I need and my next lens (in a few days, hopefully) will expand this to a degree. To achieve the same results with a 24x36 sensor, it would more than triple the cost and double the mass. I gave a try at photographing with it and the results were brilliant. A phone call from a costumer recently confirmed it. This camera belongs to the very few pieces of gear we can objectively say have changed the way we create. Did anyone out there thought, 20 years back, it could be possible to have such an amazing result, from such a small size thing and at such a reasonable price ? I did not, even in my darest dreams !
Great video and a fantastic camera. Ignore those who diss cropped sensors. Are people saying that every movie and tv show were unprofessional because they weren't full frame ? Yeh right techno-junkies.
Very confusing to me as well. I fell like people get so caught up in specs and not the final product or what works best for their workflow. This camera along with the A7IV is a perfect 1-2 combo for me.
@@darpinomedia9619 Awesome. So I saw your reply to one of your subscribers. Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that A7IV has 1.5 crop in 4k 60? Or 120? Because that is why I am getting the 11 F 1.8 because in crop it becamoes 16.5? Cheers!
@@j5146 Yea for video I’d recommend the 11mm as it has a crop in 4k60. But you would be in crop mode for photos as well. I’d recommend maybe the 16-35 zeiss f4 or the new PZ 16-35 if your budget allows
@@darpinomedia9619 Yes. This is the one that I am getting for the photos. Zeiss one. So once the crop factor gets into account and from 11 it becomes 16.5 do you find it wide enough for most situations?
@@MelvinDlaCruz Works perfectly. I'm able to get pretty much the whole room with this lens. If I can't I can get good angles enough to show through the edit.
I like how smooth your videos are. when you use the camera with the ronin do you activate the ibis stabilization in the sensor? do you use the supersmooth setting on the ronin? Thank you
Yea I do a couple of things to get smoother footage. I leave the standard ibis on, super smooth setting on the ronin. 60fps slowed down. Plus a lot of my movements are very purposeful and slow
I saw in another comment that the distortion is pretty low which is awesome news! BUT when you do see distortion in the videos how do you go about correcting them? Manually? Plugin? Would love some insight since I just got this lens but am a little nervous about controlling the distortion. Would you also not suggest panning left to right/right to left and keep the shots mostly focused in the center to decrease that effect?
Have you found the DJI Ronin RS3 to be easy to balance with the FX30? I have the Crane 2 and found that its such a hassle to try and balance the FX30 and once it is balanced, the Crane 2 doesnt allow the freedom of movement the Ronin seems to allow. Curious about your thoughts on this.
Hey! Na, I never bring lights. Just work with what I’ve got. I’d love to bring lights but it’s just not practical for these quick shoots. I usually just try to find an exposure that saves the shadows and as much highlights as possible. Shooting in Slog3 definitely helps
Those low shutter speeds are helpful for light I imagine. I wouldn’t personally bother with the 180 rule for this kind of stuff (or an ND). No motion blur moving that slow. Thanks for this, I was interested in seeing real-estate with the 11mm.
I've got 2500 to spend .. fx30 new .. a7iv used $2200 .. sony a7siii used 2500 .. im big on image quality .. im a s1h lumix user of 10 years.. ready to try auto focus etc .. what are you picking ??
If you are all video and just need a photo here and there, I’m going A7SIII all day. If you are hybrid and photo is very important, A7IV. If you are all video and lowlight isn’t a super priority, the fx30 might do the job.
mate i have the fx30 and a gimbal; i wanted this lens but i have a question about it: do you have to stabilize it again in post for sudden jumps or jitters since the lens doesnt have optical stabilization????? greetings from mexico.
@@ProjectLabz I usually shot at F2 and it worked out. I actually just picked up a zve1. I’m going to make a video about it, but It’s a pretty great camera. It does get hot, but I haven’t had it overheat.
very informative video. a couple of questions please. What about the noise? How do you manage it? I got an fx30 (upgraded from the a7iii) and every time I shoot with s-log 3, the footage is super noisy. I believe I'm exposing correctly, I follow all the rules, both with the gray card and with the ETTR rules) In this particular example, I shot outside in broad daylight and used the Tamron 17-28, ISO 800 (base iso for s-log3) and the footage was total garbage. Is the sensor defective? I never had noise problems during the years working with the a7iii
Hmmm. That’s interesting, if your exposure is right, I don’t see why you would be getting noise even at higher iso in well lit environments. Have you tried shooting in other profiles to see if you are still getting noise?
@@darpinomedia9619 thanks a lot for the reply! much appreciated! I really have no idea as well. About your observation, yes, in fact, last week I shot an interview (indoors) with controlled lighting and shot on PP11 (s-cinetone) and there was no noise. The interviewee was also wearing a black suit so I was a bit afraid to be honest. My settings were exposure meter MM 0, 5.6 (I needed both the intervewer and the banner at the back clearly visible with minimum bokeh) I seriously have no idea why s-log3 behaved like this to me. Your video with slog3 is just so clean!!
You will be able to recover a decent amount of highlights, but the best practice is to never loose them in the first place. Its not going to be a like a raw video or photo. Hopefully that helps
Sweet thank you, I currrently have a R50 Canon but looking to really improve my videography. Would the fx30 replace my R50 Canon for photos aswell? or should i keep my R50 canon for real estate shots/portraits. @@darpinomedia9619
Hey man, I am considering this lens for my a6300. I shoot Real estate Videos AND Photography, and my main concern is this one: Does this lens cause distortion?? I can't seem to find this answwer anywhere on the internet especifically for Real Estate with this lens. Have been debating between this one and the Laowa 9 mm just because of that. If you could help me, I would appreciate a lot bro! Keep it up, amazing content.
Wait so can I use my regular lenses that I have for my A7 III (Tamron 17-28, 28-75, 75-180) on this camera? There's no time limit on 4k 60 record time? I'm thinking that I need to upgrade to the A7 IV but if this will give me the ability to record 4k 60 without a time limit, I can still use my current lenses that I have for my A7 III, no overheating problems and its cheaper then I'll get this instead. For some reason I didn't think my lenses would be compatible with this camera. Hmm🤔
Well, I’d say technically it would work. It’s definitely wide enough. I suppose you could use it if you had to. But the shooting experience is not great for photos on this camera.
Depends on the situation. But I reach for the FX30 more often. The 4K 60 is pretty much the same quality on both. The only difference is that the fx30 doesn’t change the field of view when switching from 24fps to 60fps which is nice. It’s annoying when the A7IV crops in.
I have the A7III and I shoot video and product photography. Im looking to get the FX30 but I just want to know how the image quality will be. Is there a big difference as compared to the A7III when taking pictures?
It depends on what quality you need. I don’t know that I would recommend the fx30 as a photo camera. But it could probably get the job done if the end use is just social media. If you need a true hybrid, I’d go for the A7IV
Ooof. After using the fx30 for the last couple of months. I honestly don’t know that I could justify spending double the price for the FX3. Although, if money weren’t an issue I would probably have an fx3.
Hey... I'm kind of old school... But why not just get a speed booster eliminate the crop use a full frame lens and gain a full stop of light. It's not like you are auto focusing in a house.
Hey! Nothing wrong with that idea at all. But I’ve used so many adaptors in the past and they have just become sort of annoying to me. I also do use the AF in zone and it works great
i'm not sure if it's the compression or camera or both but aliasing is horrible, shower shots at 3:00 i would say unusable. is it just me? i'm very interested in the fx30 but this is conserning...it is the same with other sony bodys?
It’s probably a mix of compression and aliasing. It’s definitely an issue, but it’s an issue with basically every prosumer grade camera I’ve used. Unusable is relative to the finished delivered product. If it were going out to TV or or cinema, sure I wouldn’t use it. But on a social media post to sell a house, absolutely I use it.
I’ve also seen the issue is typically enhanced when a camera sensor is down sampling. I don’t think the FX3 or FX6 has the issue. But once again, it’s just not an issue for me and the work I do.
@@darpinomedia9619 thank's for responding. i see your point about usability in this specific project (tho i would personally choose an older HD camera than get this artifacts) this camera is advertised as being part of the prograde cinema line (witch would be better called the TVline...) and not a consumer cam...this seems disappointing as the rest looks great and the price amazing...but i guess theres always compromises for the price
If you are roughly 15ft away most of the time you might want to get a 24-70 lens. If there is a chance you might be further away more, you might want to look at a 70-200.
Compared to the a7s3 it’s doesn’t perform as good in low light. But with lenses with fast aperture like the vitrox 23mm f1.4. It gives it a run for its money.
Yea that could totally work. I actually used to do that with the Panasonic S5 to avoid the crop. But I still prefer the 60fps workflow. Although I haven’t tried it in quite a while so maybe I’d feel different 🤔
@@DrAbdulWahidMohammad Yea for sure. But for some people that already have a 16-35 or something, they might not want to buy a whole new lens just for that purpose.
@@darpinomedia9619 Thank you, great video. I was stuck between optically worse Laowa 9mm Zero D and this, I might go with digitally corrected optical performance and go with 11mm 1.8 for real estate video.
My only issue - it shouldn't be called cinema camera, it doesnt have the quality for that from the footage seen here. But as a vloging or content creation camera it looks really good.
I totally understand what you mean and by no means am I the standard for what this camera is capable of. However, the designation of “cinema camera” is definitely justified based on the video centric design, codecs, and overall usage of the camera.
But it does have the quality of a cinema camera, that is why it is one. It has the drawback of lesser low light performance, but is good lighting it matches cameras costing much more.
Thank you so much! I’ll have to check out that laowa. I used the laowa 7.5 for the black magic pocket 4K and it was great. I’m sure the 9mm is great as well.
@@darpinomedia9619 well, if we are to discuss FX30 seriously, I don't quite understand why would you want to buy if you have A7IV. The only reason is 4K 120P as I see it. So I tend to think ppl just buy (or rent) the thing for the YT videos. This is not to blame you or anything, I'm fine with any legal way to create more content. The only target group I see is the videographers who have older A6000 bodies and lots of crop lenses. Then FX30 is a perfect choice IMO
So I’m in a position that I need 2 cameras at all times. Was contemplating getting a second A7IV when this came out. So I weighed out my needs and this fit the bill as my B cam perfectly for $700 less. I use all of my full frame glass for it and got this 11mm 1.8 for content creation. I think it’s a perfect option for anyone looking for a new A cam or B cam to many of the new Sony cams.
