Thanks Ron! That video is a couple years old, so I’ve changed a few things. I’m in the middle of filming an updated version, which is more in depth so in doing it in 3 parts. The first 2 are already up on the channel, part 3 should be done June 17th. Thanks so much for the feedback! I truly appreciate it. 👍🏻🎣

Great info thanks. What editing software are you using? I’m uping my utube channel and currently trying to figure out how to run multiple GoPro 7’s. Might just see if the voice control will suffice, and looping. Also trying to figure out best audio options.
@RAGEFISHING

I use IMovie which comes with apple products. I have a 27” IMac and a smaller MacBook Air. That program is easy to learn and does everything a fishing channel needs. Audio is very important! I’ve had great video ruined due to audio issues. I’m currently using a Hero 10 as my body worn camera and my 9 with a mic adapter and a Rode VideoMicro. That improves audio on GoPros 100% for recording instructional videos. The new cameras have better built in audio, for what it’s worth, for active fishing. I suggest watching my latest video, ‘STEELHEAD: RIVER’S HIGH, FISH HIGH.’ You can listen to the audio on the talking head portions using my 9 with Rode mic. The other portion is filmed with the 10. At least it can give you an example of the difference. Here’s the link. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mOXDkYAuVzM.html

I have a Hero 7, I’ve been thinking about looking for a used 5 or 6. The quality and functionality of the 7 over the 3 I have is unbelievable. Wondering about your thoughts on your 5’s functionality with the app and ease of use of the settings. For storage I’ve been using a Lacie. For my working drive I’ve been using a Sandisk SSD. I’ve been happy with that set-up.
@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING 4 года назад
I’ve been happy with the 5’s, I have 2. However, I would recommend going with the 7. In fact, I’m looking to add a 7 because it’s compatible with my batteries and housings. The 8 needs a different battery and doesn’t need a housing, which is how I hold my mic. Currently the 7 is $229 on amazon, compared to $300 for the 8. They no longer make the 5 and I would caution you on buying a ‘renewed’ or ‘e-commerce’ version of the 5. I bought one and it only lasted a few months before it completely gave out and I had to send it back. GoPro replaced it, but it gave up at the beginning of a fishing trip and I was minus a camera for several weeks. The replacement showed up and initially didn’t work, but a manual update fixed the issue. They both work great with the GoPro app. I generally upload the SD straight to iMovie, so rarely use the app.

Depends on your computer, if you have an apple, use iMovie; it’s free and easy to learn. That’s what I use. I’m not familiar with other programs that don’t cost a bunch. If money isn’t an factor; Adobe or Final Cut Pro. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to one of those eventually.

Out of curiosity, why do you record at 4k? Doesn't that create extremely large video files? I don't think most viewers are watching your content on a big screen where 4k makes a noticeable difference in video quality. Thanks.
@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING 2 года назад
Hey Floyd! Several reasons for filming in 4K. First and foremost, uploading videos to RU-vid in 1080-30 FPS will give me a lower codec, causing my videos to be pixilated. Secondly, I enjoy reliving my fishing adventures on my 65” 4K TV like I’m sitting right there. Others that watch the videos on 4K TV’s probably appreciate it too, it’s definitely noticeable. Lastly, if you need to crop videos recorded in 4K, you are still getting high definition clips as long as you don’t crop too small. Good question! My first videos were uploaded in 1080-30 and have the lower definition codec, I had to learn the hard way.

So you have to have the camera on all the time? I was wondering how people got hook sets. I think you answered that question when you said you have to monitor and change batteries all the time as well as the SD cards.
@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING Год назад
Yes, I’m always filming. With my Hero 10, I run 128 or 256 GB cards so I don’t have to change them during a fishing day. I do have to change batteries, but the newer GoPros (9,10,11) have a much longer battery life especially with the enduro battery. I don’t use external batteries because the GoPro isn’t waterproof when the battery door is open. I change them when they get down to 25% or so. At the end of the fishing day, you can isolate the clips you want to save and delete the rest.

@RAGEFISHING
@RAGEFISHING 3 года назад
I would get as large as your camera accepts. Like my hero 5’ only accept 128GB, so that’s what I use. Recording in 4K, that’s a little over 4 hours. I use a 256 GB in my hero’s 8 and 9. It’s surprising how fast your card fills up if you’re continuously recording. They are so cheap now, it’s worth just getting ad large as possible. I use Sandisk Extreme 3/10’s. The red and gold one. That’s my suggestion anyway. Hope it helps.

@@OregonFishingAdventures I had the same issue when I was running Hero 5’s on chesty’s. It’s just picking up the sounds created by the friction between your coat and the mount. One of my old videos, ‘you win some you lose some’ had the same problem. I try to only wear a soft fleece jacket under it now. When I’m steelhead fishing, I have the GoPro on my chest pack, so it doesn’t transfer the noise. The newer cameras, the 9 and 10, seem to have better internal mics as well. One option would be to use a lav mic, but you’d have to remove the door and run a mic adaptor. It would improve audio a ton, but the problem is it’s no longer water proof. Hope this helps. 🤔

Thank you!!! I’m going to do a follow up video in the next month or so with some updated equipment such as a hero 8 and 9. That hero 8 is a huge step up from those 5’s I was running last year, the image stabilization is incredible. Also, the built in microphone is improved. You can run a lapel mic with an 8 with the addition of the GoPro mic adaptor and even plug in a battery pack as well, so you don’t have to change batteries. The main issue with that is all the wires to manage and finding a place like a pocket to store the battery pack. Not to mention, once you run a mic, you have to expose the USB port so it’s no longer waterproof. (I think you’ll be better off without a mic.😬) On my body worn cameras, I just keep 5-6 batteries with me and change them out when they get low. Good luck! Sounds like a fun trip.

That way if I take a spill in the river while wading, I don’t have to worry about ruining the camera. Once you remove the door to plug in a mic, it’s no longer waterproof. That said, I did buy a lapel mic for summer days in the boat, just a cheapie off Amazon. Of course that’s before I started using the newer cameras. I bought a hero 10 on GoPro’s Black Friday sale, I got a chance to use it on New Year’s Day. The audio is awesome. Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. I’m going to do an updated video this summer so stay tuned! I’ve added a Hero 8 and 9 to my collection and they are incredible! Huge step up. 📸👍🏻🎣

Yeah I know I couldn't afford the GoPros I went with a akaso just to start making video's and using my phone that is a samsung s9+ that takes really good videos plus using the phone to edit the videos but have a few videos on my channel if you would want to check them out

@@TxMafiaFishing-Outdoors haha! My wife puts up with it, but I’m dealing with the same. She’s not that into fishing, but went a few times this year already. She’s featured in the “South Twin Lake Trout Fishing” video. She caught a dandy on the second cast! I figure having her be a part of it helps my cause. 😉
