I felt bad for him in this video because he actually looked really uncomfortable at having to confront her about her tripod. He seems like a nice guy just trying to enforce the rules of his workplace.

​@robertsmith7667 actually it's not a public space, it's private property. Some people maybe overweight and they feel uncomfortable being seen all red and sweaty. So they go to the gym between 10pm and 0600 just so nobody will see them. My wife and I work shifts so we often go at 11pm, and I often see a bunch of overweight people in their baggy sweat pants. These people do not want to be laughed at on Instagram because they're doing an exercise wrong or something. If someone's overweight, but they're making the effort to turn their life around, but they get chased out of the gym by one of these freaks who film themselves and anyone else who dares to invade their space. Then that would be a crime against humanity.

@@robertsmith7667I’m not sure what country you are in but here in the UK a gym would be classed as private place as a transaction (payment) must take place before use. So not everyone has access (ie those that have not paid) so therefore not a public space.

I can understand when people record during certain exercises, to track correct form. It's sometimes difficult to check one's form unless you record yourself doing the exercise

"In very limited circumstances" is the key phrase. PF is all about catering to people who don't like some parts of gym culture so anyone being uncomfortable with her filming would make it against their policy. I think it is all based on the other attendees.

@@melissas4874 I didn't post the rest because that much should cover this situation. Next part says nobody can be in the video who did not consent. The next part says no recording for ANY commercial purpose. Meaning these people that claim to be "influencers" are not allowed to record AT ALL.

Seems like a fair enough policy. Sadly the closest planet fitness is 3 hours away.

I used to have to enforce the same rule in a spa resort (Jacuzzis, saunas, steam baths). People are literally trying to relax in their swimsuit and I had to tell instagram "stars" to stop filming and taking pictures everywhere. Most thankless job I've had...There were also silent sections and of course everyone talks even in front of staff members.

​@ST-rj8iu there are legitimate reasons to film yourself walking. When I was rehabbing a foot injury, I filmed myself to see any issues with my gait. I highly doubt that's the case in this situation though.

Exactly, if you're filming me and making money off your videos, then I want a cut of that like any other extra you'd need to pay in a movie.

This is 100% reality. Every gym ought to put in its membership contract its stance on filming within the gym. Make it obvious with signs and strict enforcement and then let the customer decide if they want to be a member there.

Why do people need to film anyway? I can understand maybe PR but walking on a treadmill or stretching? Gtfoh!

Yeah I honestly don't understand the lunk alert. I go to planet fitness & I've heard it go off maybe 2 times & 1 of those times were when the employees were cleaning under machines & dropped it so it slammed down loud. But they say it's a judgement free zone yet they have in their wall a guy with a cutoff shirt, gallon of water, etc = lunk. Like isn't that judging?!? 😂😂 whatever. I think this is a pretentious argument. There is no need to make this kind of irrational argument for something so simple. It's private property, and we don't want to be inconvenienced by her tripod, even if it takes only 1 second to navigate around, and we don't want to be posted all over the internet in her crappy film, nor do we want to be potentially heckled for "Ruining her shot". I just don't see the need to make things more complicated. There aren't any people in wheelchairs going there, and no one is so clumsy as to to trip over her equipment, that's in plain sight. It's enough to say "We don't want filming done in a workout space", and that's the end of it.

Each to their own opinion but my points to what inconveniences the tripods may cause are not pretentious or is it irrational.@@abrahamthebewildered1448 Tripod in the middle of the walkway not only prevents Planet Fitness' customers from traversing safely but also is a barrier in case of emergency (e.g. a case fire, health emergency, etc...) If Planet Fitness didn't do their due their diligence to maintain reasonably safe property conditions for the protection of visitors and customer, they are liable for lawsuits. So in this scenario, Planet Fitness had every right to stop this individual from placing her tripod in the middle of a walkway due to their legal obligation as business. Although we do not see people with "wheelchair" walking around, we potentially can have people who do not have super great mobility/having a temporary disability that would like to use the walkway to the treadmill. Keep in mind, having disabilities does not mean you have to be in a wheelchair. There are various types, varying degrees to it. You potentially don't have full of function of your arms but still capable of walking on a treadmill. Anyways, I am pointing disability access out because it is by law for business to make sure they are accessible and compliant. Hence, even the more reasoning for them to enforce the fact this individual cannot place their tripod there. They even had a policy on American with Disability Act there lol Contrary to what Joey is saying in the video, Planet Fitness actually allows their "members may use their mobile devices on the gym floor in order to photograph or take video of themselves in very limited circumstances and this privilege may be revoked at any time and for any reason at the sole discretion of Planet Fitness." - source their policy on planetfitness.com under "Mobile Device Policy." And the limited circumstances is that it must not infringe upon other members' safety, privacy and comfort of their members. You got the privacy portion down, but the truth is they can always blur it out and argue what if no one else is in the background? To really make the issue the end of it, you have to let them know the policy and the associated reasonable concerns.

That has nothing to do with the issue here stop being a bully and grow up. A lot of people have recorded their transformations and wanting to try your hand at something new like recording, editing, managing an audience etc is not a bad thing either you also need to do better.

She is recording her fitness journey possibly. For people that lose/have lost a lot of weight it's typical to get shots doing cardio throughout the journey. There is nothing wrong with that. What is wrong is one, not respecting the rules of the gym you're in, and two, filming an employee and calling him racist for nicely asking you to follow those rules. Let's condemn the behavior, sure. The act of filming your workouts respectfully, away from others, is fine. If it's not your thing then don't do it, simple.

@@ThatOneWeirdGal I would also add, place your camera that you dont record others if possible, and if you can not avoid it maybe ask the people around you if they are ok to be in background of your video. In must cases it should be possible to wait few mins when someone dont agree, that he finish his sets, or make another exercise first.

I had a Mexican student in AZ call me racist once. Now most of the teachers were white but the town was mostly Mexican, Native, or other and I myself am…East Indian. I was so flabbergasted he tried it my first response was “but I’m more brown than you” to a classroom on the edge of their seats erupting with laughter, followed by “there’s only 3 of us in town so who’s really being racist?” He didn’t try it again but I find it hilarious when they forget I’m not black nor white.

I was filmed the other day without my consent. Pissed me off because it was some Insta model I’m sure and I was just trying to focus on proper form. It was about a month ago and PF recently added this into their terms. Betting your gyms will too.
