While I completely agree, my jaw-dropping moment was earlier when the psychiatrist politely called Dennis out for pretending to be the designer(forgot his name). McAvoy’s subtle face changes were absolutely incredible. To see his facade crack and settle into Dennis was seriously impressive. Top tier acting. He should’ve gotten a statue. @erinmcn14

It didn’t have the best representation when it came to DID, and painted people with the disorder as being more dangerous than other people. It’s negatively affected a lot of people with the disorder, I enjoyed the movie and I enjoyed the acting. The movie also made me learn as much as I could about DID, but it gave a lot of other people false beliefs about people. It’s a great movie regardless and I think James should’ve gotten nominated fir it because he did an amazing job.

Just to add some additional perspective. I've known several friends with DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder) and while it may make for a better movie script, it's highly unlikely for someone with it to have some sort of murderous or violent personality. I know this film dips into the supernatural rather than full reality, but most media representations are in this vein. I'd be happy to expand if anyone has questions
@jumpinthecadillac9507

@atapper10

People didn't really like what he could do by changing his personality and thought it was unrealistic, but that's the entire point of the three movies. That there are superhumans among normal people. I have to say I don’t like the way they portrayed this disorder in the movie. It’s highly unlikely for someone with this disorder to behave this way and be aggressive at all. D.I.D is developed during early childhood at the ages of 6-9 caused by severe and prolonged trauma because of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Not only are people with dissociative identity disorder no more likely to be violent than other people, but they are also more likely to be the victims of violence. Individuals with this disorder are more likely to be re-traumatized and experience abuse from multiple people throughout their lives. Many people with D.I.D have stated that this movie didn’t do a good job of portraying the symptoms of this disorder. The media tends to over exaggerate the symptoms of D.I.D and in many cases the symptoms portrayed are fictional. With all of that said no hate towards the actors or the movie which I did enjoy at all they did amazing especially James McAvoy he should of been nominated hands down. Anyways I would like to link Anthony Padilla’s video of him interviewing people with D.I.D. It’s very informative and it gives a lot of insight on what D.I.D consists of. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ek7JK6pattE.html

I have no idea how some people can think this movie is not good my opinion one of the best movies to come out in the past 10 years and McAvoy‘s performance for me is right up there with Heath ledger Joker and actually phoenix joker his ability to switch a character instantaneous by facial movements and posture and even the way he Breathes like you can literally identify who the character is without them having even say a word I don’t know how he didn’t win awards for this performance and to be honest the third one glass really broke my heart to be honest such a waste of great characters three really amazing characters and just it feels like to me there is no real payoff It’s like they were just discarded a real shame

McAvoy deserved an Oscar for this role(s), but they completely snubbed him and didn't even nominate him. Also, saw this in theaters within a couple weeks of it coming out and was so happy no one spoiled that last scene in the diner. The marketing did a great job (for once) and didn't even give away anything which made that Bruce Willis reveal shocking.

It's a good film because it's a thriller and achieves those tense moments, plus great performance by McAvoy, but this film is an absolute CRIMINAL at breaking the show-not-tell rule. Every every beat has to be commented on or announced with words, Shyamalan has zero confidence in his audience that they will understand what's going on screen if it isn't explained. The end is a good example - the Unbreakable music and Bruce Willis would've been enough. No words needed. But no, he has to have the name tag, and some waitress has to make the whole thing obvious. The film is littered with moments like that.
@MarkArandjus
@MarkArandjus 3 года назад
@@Corn_Pone_Flicks I disagree, because the way it is now a person who has never seen Unbreakable still doesn't realize what's going on. That scene is in there for people who are in the know and if you're in the know you don't need to direct that scene so obviously. And that's just one example, I could easily list half a dozen more. Here's three: 1. When one of the girls is taken (the scene where she urinates on herself) and McAvoy brings her back inside the other girl goes "We just cried and screamed, and we didn't hurt him, because we were afraid to get him upset!" The very first rule of show-don't-tell is that characters shouldn't say aloud how they feel. I don't know what's worse, the fact that it was actually said so bluntly, or the fact that it didn't even need to be said, because that information has already been delivered visually. Like I said - the film is well directed but Shyamalan still beats us over the head with what we already know. 2. Same with the Psychiatrist's Skype call where the character looks into the camera and tells us a bunch of things we find out throughout the film anyway. There is virtually nothing there said that isn't either made apparent by McAvoy's performance or could've been made to be. 3. When The Beast emerges and runs towards the house over some train tracks there's a couple of guards with a barking dog and one of them goes "It's an animal, like a coyote or something", again needlessly stating the obvious.

This was a good movie. Don’t know why people would say it was ‘meh’. It was intriguing. His therapist was talking about how different personalities can do things the other personalities can’t. The mind is so fascinating. Usually split personalities come about from abuse in young childhood. It was interesting that the young girl who had been abused was the one able to get away. I thought it was well done. McAvoy was excellent, the therapist and young girls were excellent too. There are other films about split personalities like Sybil with Sally Field. 3 Faces of Eve. Liked your reaction.

I think you need some new patrons if their consensus was MEH for Split. 🤣 Also, yeah, imagine all of us Unbreakable fans who had been clamoring for almost 20 years for a continuation to that movie only to be FLOORED at that end scene. Me, personally, I had the biggest smile on my face in the theater when it happened. And truly, only M Night fans would even really appreciate it because who else at this point would be even going to see his movies still to even get that payoff. 😂

After seeing what Casey has been through (and is probably still going through since she's still in the custody of her uncle), it makes so much sense that her immediate reaction is to freeze. It's lizard brain stuff, and contrary to popular belief, fight or flight are not the only reflex responses. Just like a deer in headlights, sometimes the brain tells us the safest thing to do is to freeze. I struggle with this a lot. CPTSD has made my emotional reflexes like hair triggers which makes it incredibly difficult to function normally.

While muh night, is definitely up his own ass so far he's lapped himself, I will say I do consider the unbreakable trilogy as a perfect trilogy. Not perfect movies, but I definitely enjoyed them, and with a few story tweaks it could really shine. A lot of people found the beast underwhelming because they were expecting something more monsterous. Also some thought the beast's words to kc was the movie being flippant about people with trauma, instead of seeing it as the viewpoint of the character, pinned it as the message of the movie. James does really well in this. Goes on a shortlist of actors that produce consistently spectacular work.
