I really want to see you do the originals from 1968-1975. No CGI, the budgets kept getting slashed, despite the previous movie's success, and yet they turned out quality stories. I really think you would enjoy them, plus you could see the parallels between the original Septilogy and the most recent trilogy.

I used to watch a lot of movies with my grandfather, he's 85 years old so he's seen a lot of masterpieces and he has a very good memory. Even though he's not really a movie lover, he always appreciates me showing him new movies and he literally told me that the last real masterpiece he saw was this movie with me ! ^^ Now I would also like to ask you James if you have seen the original "planet of the apes" movies from the 60's ? It would be super interesting to see you react to those movies so you can see how good they still are (the first and fourth especially) and how many references they put in the recent movies you just finished.

If you've yet to see _Planet Of The Apes,_ do. The 1968 classic and reboot trilogy are all the same universe (more or less - _Rise_ references the astronaut mission). The original run of films is 💯 worth viewing - each, just as epic, profound, & disturbing in their own way.

Looked it up and confirmed: "[VFX Supervisor Dan] Lemmon spoke about the long and challenging process to get the movie off the ground in the two and a half years since the scripting stage. One challenge, he said, was that they had planned to shoot near the Rinjani volcano in Indonesia, but it erupted just a few weeks before shooting began. Luckily it all worked out as they found that Mt. St. Helens in Washington State was a better shooting location anyway."

I don't get the "it's better without subtitles" thing, like it's a song that you can enjoy without knowing the language, that's like going to a seminar in China and just sitting and watching people talk and not understanding a fuckin word they're saying.

SPOILERS: This movie is truly a masterpiece. Caesar’s story ends perfectly. I don’t think it should’ve ended any other way. It’s truly a happy ending. He got his “people” to safety as his final mission I suppose. He made sure that everyone that he cares about made it to safety and then dies peacefully. Truly a perfect ending.

In terms of actual filmmaking achievement, this is always one of my favorite movies. To be able to take a premise that is so absurd on its face and make it into an incredibly emotional and philosophical story that outshines most traditional war films is honestly astounding.

YO James, idk if you've seen them before, but if you want to watch a deep dive into this trilogy here, there's a RU-vid series by StorySteet on each of the Apes movies that are about an hour long each. They are an excellent watch and I highly recommend them if you've got the downtime. Regardless, loved the commentary bro, stay safe

I feel like this movie trilogy gets forgotten about a lot. Three great films with great stories, scores, acting and special effects. Considering that these are based around CG characters and still can give you the same emotion as a real cast would really set this apart from films trying to do a fraction of what it did.

ROB ROY. The best movie no one's seen. Stars Liam Neeson & Tim Roth. Was released a month after "Braveheart" and thus, was overshadowed by it. But like Braveheart, Rob Roy is about a factual Scottish person a few centuries after William Wallace. Tim Roth stars as one of my all-time favorite villains in this one. In fact, Tim Roth received his only Oscar nomination for his role in the movie. Just had to mention as a recommendation. Don't think you'd be disappointed.

This movie is epic and when I first watched it in the cinemas I was surprised how little action there was in the film, but I think the fact that it's more of an emotional drama made it more effective and ended the trilogy on a great note!

What I loved is that karma and irony got Colonel McCullough in the end. He became the one thing that he hated so much. In his mind, if you couldn't think or feel, you're basically a mind less animal. That was a fate worse than death for him. Not only did this man killed his own son, but also killed and tortured not just apes, but humans too. Glad Caesar didn't put a bullet in him even though he had EVERY right to do so then and there! I wouldn't blame him too. But hey, he killed himself so Caesar wouldn't have to lol.

The way this film ties into the original film is cool, the Simian Flu has evolved and causes humans to regress essentially into apes while it makes the apes smarter as in the original series the remaining humans had de-evolved basically into Neanderthals and became the animals themselves.

its rare that a trilogy gets better with each establishment but planet of the apes is one of the rare exception, war imo is the best of the trilogy and one of the best sci fi movies I've seen. usually you have a bang in the first film, then the quality goes down or it reaches a height in number 2 and then quality decreases in the 3rd but this just kept going up, kinda like the lotr trilogy, incredible incredible film and trilogy.

Hello James VS Cinema, Just so you know. They are currently filming another "Planet of the Apes" film. It started shooting last month at the Disney Studios in Sydney, Australia. It will be called "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" & it will be a direct sequel to this trilogy. It is slated for release on May 24th, 2024. Sadly, Andy Serkis won't be involved, nevertheless, I am looking forward to seeing what they do. I strongly recommend that you watch the first five "Planet of the Apes" films which star Charlton Heston & Roddy McDowell, which were released from 1968 to 1973. Only then will you understand why this franchise is such a benchmark of Science Fiction & why it has such a cultural impact. I look forward to your comments.

Like it is rare for me to like see a trilogy that has 2 great movies in it, one of them being actually fantastic, but then I can easily just go, "yeah but THAT ONE". My mom taught me all my critical thinking. We would talk about anything and everything, and although we've always been different people we've always shared a passion for Cinema. She saw some of the original Planet of the Apes movies and she could not finish them because she couldn't stand the Apes being hurt. Her favorite land animal is the orangutan and when the trailer for the first remake movie trailer came out, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, she cried when she saw the orangutan rendering. It was so beautiful and she couldn't look at any of the promotional stuff after that, she was just so sad thinking of them getting killed. She went back to Mexico and we don't talk much (I can't go back and I wouldn't be welcomed as I am) but I hope she was able to watch the remake trilogy all these years later. She would have loved it, and been happy to see how all the Ape deaths were honored. She would probably cry when she realized the Orangutan character lived in the end.

Agree these are all recognizable characters with their own backstory (eg Rocket). I also hope this trilogy is cherished for how epic and amazing it is. The fact we have such empathy for a FX character speaks volumes for what they accomplished. Its themes in each are deep, the action supports the drama. I love this trilogy. While I was excited for each one that came out, I would be happy if they left it at three. I am sure they could craft another film for the next stage of "conflict". But without Cesar... I dont think its possible and am happy for it to end at War (although there are plenty of questions that the film left us with). Great film... great reaction... thanks James

If you're familiar with the original series, and payed enough attention during this one, you can see that there's a lot of set-up for the events of Planet of the Apes taking place 10-20 years after War. That worries me. I can see Cornelius growing up to be a doctor trying to find a cure for Nova with Taylor's arrival throwing things into chaos but can this kind of story, or any of these characters, be even remotely as good as what we have as things stand?
