My favorite part of this movie had almost nothing to do with the apes - Colonel McCullogh and his Alpha Omega battalion were really interesting, mainly because the various real world phenomena that inspired them. I could talk about the colonel alone for hours. I also liked the relationship between Caesar and the colonel. Basically, you could completely remove the Alpha Omega group from the context of the Apes universe and they would still be very interesting.

@@scorp77snake I wouldn't say it's closed minded, a good story can go a long way but sometimes if the special effects aren't the best they can hold back a movies impact for sure on the audience. Luckily the 1968 film has a strong enough story and social commentary that it overcomes the dated special effects.

Mercy is not weakness. I always admired how Caesar never wanted to kill the humans in this trilogy, rather just break free from their rule. I never saw it as him being weak, but as Caesar actually being the bigger individual. Caesar was a great leader because he kept his eye on the actual goal, which was for his kind to be free from human rule. He only killed when it was absolutely necessary and he always did his best to not make things personal. In Dawn of the Planet of the Apes when Caesar and the other apes rencountered the humans he even tried to make peace with them rather than go to war, because he knew how devastating war could be for both the humans and the apes. A wise leader always searches for peace if it is possible rather than solve problems through violence. Caesar didn’t force the apes to hate the human race, he didn’t ask them to kill every single one of them (like Koba), he just thought about what was best for his kind. Caesar knew in order to be a higher species you must be better than the ones who abused you. I saw the trailer for the 4th movie and I’m so hyped for it! Tho it seems some apes have learned nothing from the humans and are beginning to act just like they did after becoming the dominant species. Hopefully this new character (who I believe is named Noa) will take after him and follow in his footsteps.

The virus evolving to take away human's ability to speak is a connection to the original film, where humans had lost the ability to speak and a lot of their higher thinking. Cornelius was also the name of one of the main apes in the original film. This movie has some of the clearer connections to the original, whereas Rise just had blink and you miss it news report about the space shuttle carrying Charlton Heston's character from the original film.

I saw it as they lost their ability to speak but kept their higher brain function to a degree but couldn't interpret or put it into words essentially. Nova being the one anomaly. Bc the colonel said my son looked at me with such eyes and he unalived him. Then the colonel got infected and he's crying bc he cant speak but he realizes his son wasnt a mindless unspeaking beast.

Premise for Kingdom, coming out next year: *Years after the events of War, many ape clans have emerged in the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral state. One ape leader perverts the teachings of Caesar to enslave other clans in search of the last traces of a secret human technology, while another ape embarks on a journey to find freedom side by side with a human girl* There’s also supposed to be apes that have never heard of Caesar or his teachings

Primate, my friend, I do honestly hope that you do the original Planet of the Apes movie... I know you said it's a "maybe".... but I think you will be impressed with it. I will say that it should be taken in the context of the era it was made. I was barely a year old when that movie came out, so I didn't see it in theaters. I saw it on TV as a very young child (It was rated "G", after all, and yes, the ratings system was very different back then), and absolutely loved it. The sad part is, that despite ALL 5 movies making the studio a ton of money at the time, with each successive sequel the budget was cut, because OTHER movies they made did poorly at the box office. As maligned as Beneath the Planet of the Apes is maligned, it DID have a noteworthy scene about the Civil Rights struggles at the time, as well as the "authoritative response" to such outcries. If you do watch that movie, I think you'll spot it immediately now that you know about it. There was a lot of "not-so-subtle" societal references in it. I admit, I am a little biased in my love for that series (as well as the TV series that followed it, but is along a different timeline), as I look at them through nostalgic glasses. But I do think the stories they tell are pretty good, even with the limits of the visual effects at the time. John Chambers (who created the ape makeup) won an Oscar for his efforts, IIRC. Also, I will again say that this series DOES tie into the original movie series for the most part. The only real difference I can spot is the year that the spacecraft was launched (in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes... it was shown on a television in the background... and easily miss-able reference to the Original movies). It was known as "Project Liberty", and there is actually a short film on RU-vid detailing it "In Universe". Here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--SKbvqndVFY.htmlsi=5P3L3QHA_PZIJvuM But this trilogy can be seen as the "Original Timeline" leading to the original 5 movies. Also, one MINOR spoiler for the Original movie: It takes place nearly 2000 years in the future... so if the apes in this trilogy evolved as much as they have due to that "virus", imagine how "human" the would look in 2000 years time. Put that context into your mind when you do watch that movie. I can ill afford to donate to a reaction channel (I am disabled and on a fixed income), but I would give it a hard consideration for you to do that original movie series.
@IggyStardust1967
@IggyStardust1967 9 месяцев назад
40-odd minutes in, and you said, "Tell me this isn't one of the most amazing CGI movies you've ever seen." I agree with you on that point. But that's part of what makes the Original movies so special.... it was all practical effects. All of them. CGI wasn't even a thing until the mid-1980s, and didn't become somewhat realistic until the early 1990s. Believe me, I'm not knocking CGI (as many in my generation do).... but there still has to be a good story. Yes, this trilogy HAS a great story. But many movies that rely on CGI lack a good story, in favor of the visual effects. That's what I think you would take away from the Original 5 movies. Also, you'll see how many "name drops" are in this trilogy, that relate to the originals. Ceasar, Bright Eyes, Nova, "Colonel", Cornelius, all reference the original movies. Also, the "screenshot" you showed at the beginning of the video was, I believe, either from the TV series, or from the 5th movie. I can't swear to which. But again, realize that it was all practical makeups that took hours to apply before filming could begin. For the original movie, they employed every makeup artist in Hollywood to be able to apply the makeups for everyone in 3-4 hours. Also, do you ever watch CinemaSins? They did this movie, and their video is hilarious! It's here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i_o_3suFk1o.htmlsi=K7gB9j5jv69-7YbI

I really thought the scene of Rocket revealing himself would be sooooo different. Rocket revealed himself, I thought was gonna fight Red, the donkey, and when the Colonel brought out his gun and asked Rocket if he as alone, Rocket would say (and he never spoke if you didn't notice), "I"m never alone." and then there would be dead silence, he'd look at Caesar one last time, then at the caged apes, and finally at the Colonel and shout, "APES TOGETHER STRO-" and then the Colonel would pull the trigger. I feel like that's what Reeves wanted to do, but having rocket help coordinate the escape from the inside made more sense

There is talks of a 4th one but idk if it is happening. You should def check out the first original though and if you don't like it then don't watch anymore but the 1st is a classic and I liked it. (Saw it later in life)

A super underrated trilogy. If I were you, I would check out the first original Planet of the Apes movie, just to see the differences between that movie and this trilogy. You don't really need to watch any of the original sequels

Primate, please react to I, Robot and Enemy of the State, your last two Will Smith movies you haven't watched yet. It's been a few years since you've said you had yet to watch them. Why not put them in the books as you say after watching something? Good way to finish off the year either before or after October . I know October is a year for horror flicks.

There definitely needs to be games based off these movies. There is a game called Ancestors the human odessy i think where you can play as and evolve your ape as you explore and fight various predators if you want to check it out 😅😅

There’s already a couple of Apes games. You have ‘Planet of the Apes: the Last Frontier’ as well as ‘Crisis on the Planet of the Apes’ There may be others but I’m drawing a blank right now.

I LOVE all the Maurice respect. He's such a rock of support and good life choices. Edit: DAMN! Your uncle iroh comparason was on point! Dragon of the West when he wanna be 😂 You gotta be nicer to the originals tho. It would be like saying og starwars is obsolet because the bluescreen isn't as good as the new ones and you can tell that its uses modles and pupets. Like, what a tragidy. Dont be a graphics sentrics or you'll end up miss out on a lot of good stuff. Idk, i find old effects incredibly charming. And a lot of my favorite fantasy stuff is old. Like Willow and Dark Crystal, Never Ending Story, labyrinth, the original King Kong, godzilla, Mothra, og Day the earth stood still, dune and just sooooooo many more. Please give them a shot, you do get used to the practical and its well worth the hype. This trilogy are all prequels to the original so it not even the same story your sitting through. It also makes these films hit harder. Idk thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Primate, Primate, Primate. How can you call yourself Primate and not have the classic, original, Planet of the Apes on your channel? The movie is actually awesome! You will be surprised by the story, the acting AND by the practical effects. The second movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, not very good but still entertaining AF, but the third, Escape From the Planet of the Apes, is pretty awesome. But the first one? Chef's kiss of a movie. This trilogy is great, and War For the Planet of the Apes is terrific! ❤✌

Primate you gotta watch the originals at some point, at least the first to start it all and then venture to the sequels after if you enjoy it. To catch up for *Kingdom* I started the journey of watching the entire franchise, starting with the originals and man I don’t regret it, twas very informative and entertaining. There’s a reason why the series became a success and grew an iconic status from its starting point, but overall I think it would’ve added to your rewatch for this trilogy. There’s so many nods and references that you overlooked in this trilogy because what you haven’t seen in the original films. It’s a different vibe and era of filmmaking that seems pretty magical considering the point in time those films were made, there’s a few misses but it’s still enjoyable I think. I get it, how can you go from these to those right? The reverse of that would’ve probably helped your interest but even if you check them out on your own time and not a reaction, please don’t sleep on those films.🙏🏽

This series is still on my top series. While it did realtivly well at the office, people sort of got bored with it for some reason.The first movie had almost 500k reviews on sites like IMDB, the third movie has less then 300k. People lost interest. Many cleaimed it was missing the hear and sould of the frachise. Others said it was to violent or to dark. Some didn't like the "politics" of talking about slavery and fasicsm. Lack of good story, not enough action....etc were other complaints. I also remember many hated the end of the giant human army came, only to be wiped out by an avalanche. They thought it was a cop out of having a big battle isntead. Me? Its hard for me I loved them all. It's hard to rank which one was the best. This was for sure the most emotional. This was also Andy's second major role as a CGI charecter (Gollum), which got the movie alot of attention! Though he was screwed out of an award yet again for it.

These 3 movies pay so much homage to the original 5 films. Honestly, no reactor understands what they're missing by not watching them. Don't get me wrong, these 3 are fantastic on their own. But for those of us who have seen the original 5, there's so much to unpack and point out in these 3 that go back to the originals.
@jawbone78
@jawbone78 9 месяцев назад
What you would get out of catching references to the originals is massively outweighed by the misery of watching those shitty movies in the first place. The first was good, but the other four were dire. No one should be subjected to them.
@mwroach1251
@mwroach1251 9 месяцев назад
@@jawbone78you're opinion is not the final decision. Let people make their own choices. I like all 5 of the originals regardless of how you personally feel towards them. 🤷 and if a reactor wants to watch them, either privately or on their channel, it's up to them.

From what little we know about Kingdom of the Apes, supposedly its about them in the oasis and some ape messing with Ceaser's teaching in order to capture other clans and look for "secret human technology". With a side plot about some other ape and a girl on some quest. So far the script sounds kinda odd. I do hope they maybe rewrite it. Also wonder how well it will do without Ceaser. Andy brought so much emotion to the role. Sure Cornelius will be in it but don't know if it will really feel the same. There is also not alot of famous actors in it. Which makes me worry about it being made "just because we can" for a money grab. It will either make or break the franchise.
@josephrusso4828
@josephrusso4828 9 месяцев назад
The story does sound kind of strange but they brought back Rick jaffa and Amanda silver to help write the script, so there’s still a chance the movie could be decent. Personally, I think they should’ve waited a few years before making another Apes movie, just to properly prepare. Then again, there’s only so much you can do with this series, it can’t go on forever.
