He completely missed the sheer impact at 17:04 - "The Horde is nothing!" - Music becomes very muted, the accompanying guard makes that uncomfortable glance towards her, and Sylvanas looks around as if she knows she messed up. Almost sad when it contrasts so starkly to the prior trailer where she seems fully on board with the Horde, her entire entrance to the battlefield felt so much like she couldn't just sit and watch her people die, and all of a sudden, she seems like she doesn't care about any of them at all. That moment really hit hard.

As a diehard WoW player, I was actually cheered to hear you (as a newcomer to the game) not simply ask "is he the good guy or bad guy", but recognize that both sides are good and bad, and both have made mistakes over the years. It's part of the dynamic that makes this game fun. I also agree that the WoW movie was a major disappointment in many ways, and I'm not the only one who dearly wishes Blizzard would make their own feature film in the style of these glorious cinematics.

Wraith of the lich king trailer with the old kings voice over is still my absolute fav. The haunting choir boys singing makes it so damn tragic.

Maybe watch the Warbringer animated shorts. those give a lot of story to the characters (Sylvanas as well) and they are awesome too.

So to lay down some backstory here. "She" Sylvanas was initial the Ranger general of Quel'Thalas(an acient elven kingdom, of arguably the most powerful magic users in the world). By their near immortal standards she was considered to be exceptionally beautifull and gifted as a ranger. As a ranger general she was in charge of the entire Thalassian military, and is arguably one of the most skilled fighters "alive" on Azeroth today. Comparable perhaps only to Illidan/Tyrande and maybe the prophet Velen if he ever cuts loose. She was so effective in the defense of quel'thalas that the lich king raised her as a banshee( a tormented spirit capalbe of posessing bodies). To further torment her the lich king kept her body perserved and often near her. During the events of Frozen Throne she was one of the first to break away from his will and lead most of the undead that make up the playable characters in a rebellion against him. Even defeating Arthas in single combat. For that reason the Forsaken(a free willed faction of the undead you see in these trailers) revere Sylvanas with near godhod and saintly virtues. Now her character has had an arguable 180 in this expansion but they seem to be trying to tie it up since... Basically Sylvanass is one of the few people that actualy knows what happens to you after you die(it's in one of the short stories), and apparently it isn't pretty :)

Alliance player by heart but man when Sylvanas yelled "For the Horde!" I got chills.

My favorite moment is when the human king throws away the sword and turns to the light. He is a healer and priest at heart, and I enjoyed that he, when push came to shove, he was true to himself.

When you mentioned 'the golden hour' it reminded me of the sense of time throughout the BFA clips. I love how the 'Old Soldier' cinematic happens just before dawn when Saurfang is at his lowest point and about to give up, giving that 'darkest before the dawn' feeling before zappy boi gives him hope again. Then the 'BFA Cinematic Trailer' takes over at mid-day, even starting out with the camera directly over Lordaeron castle like it's high noon. And 'Saurfang's Mak'gora' takes place at the gates of Orgrimmar at dusk as the sun sets on an old hero. And Sylvanas flies off basically saying savor these last bits of light, nothing lasts.

So the sword with the light in it is called Shalamayne, which was originally 2 swords, Shalla'tor and Ellemayne. Anduin's (the blonde guy) father, Varian, was split into two beings by the magic of an evil dragon. Each self of Varian received one of the blades. When Varian became whole again, the two swords became one (Shalamayne). Varian had the ability to split Shalamayne into their two selves. There's not really a clear reason that I know of as to why others can do it, so I liken it a lot to Thor's hammer, where a worthy warrior can use the blades [speculation].

Not hating on the warcraft movie, but a movie in the world of warcraft univers, made in this style would be way better.

Sylvanas was killed in the defence of her homeland by arthas, the guy you'll see in wrath of the lich king trailer, and denied death, instead being raised as a banshee under his control. She managed to free herself and became queen of the undead who were able to free themselves as well. The Undead joined the horde, where sylvanas was eventually made warchief after the abdication of thrall (black haired orc of trailers) and the death of his successor, vol'jin. Then another war with the alliance started and sylvanas did some warcrimes, which is why everyone is so pissed at her.

The darkness under her eyes are her tears that were seared into her face when Arthas ripped out her soul and turned her into a banshee. She is the banshee queen and that is her banshee form that you see during the opening battle.

As a long time WoW fan, I itched to explain the lore every time he asked a question or got something wrong lol.. It's one of those dearly loved things that a serious fan could go on about for hrs and hrs. I hope one day this game comes to the home network as a show, with the major points coming to the big screen.. It's a lore rich game that definitely has the capacity for a slot on a TV network.

For someone not familiar with the game's story, you responded very well to most of the plot points in the cinematics, Chris! It was a joy to watch you watch them. The only thing you missed was the betrayal by Chieftain Sylvanas of the Horde, when she said "The Horde is nothing". That's why the fallen body of Saurfang, champion of the Horde, was welcomed back into the Horde's main capital city of Orgrimmar.

This did not have old soldiers which tells backstory on high overlord Varok Saurfang (the main orc)... The Villain of these is not actually considered an elf anymore , she is Sylvanas Windrunner former Ranger general of Silvermoon of the high elven capital city of silvermoon... During its defense against the tragically fallen prince of Loderon Arthas and his undead armies Sylvanas resisted till her last breath and in the end she did fall... But Sylvanas had caused too much pain for Arthas to allow her a peaceful death... Arthas used the power of the dark blade that stole his soul to bring Sylvanas back as a banshee and used her to slaughter her people... There are many interesting stories in World of Warcraft from Arthas Menethil and his journey into the Lich King (Trailer Wrath of Lich King I Recommend you check it out and follow it with Remastered Wrath Gate, and Remastered Fall of the Lich King leading into WoW Shadow lands trailer)... You should also check out the Warbringers and Harbingers trilogies which give background info on some of WoW characters (Sylvanas has a Warbringer which shows what lead to battle of Loderon which was the first video you reacted and contains a flashback to Sylvanases past Go ahead and check that out) You should also react to just basically anything Blizzard has ever touched in game cinematics and trailers alike... Blizzard really knows what they are doing when it becomes to writing and cinematics... but as of now my recommendations in order are: -WoW Wrath of the Lich King Trailer -Wrath Gate Remastered -Fall of the Lich King Remastered (preferably watch these remastered ones together) -WoW Shadow Lands Trailer -Harbingers Trilogy -WoW Legion Trailer - Legion in game cinematics (I cant remember them by name but I am sure someone else can tell you the important ones) -Warbringers Trilogy (the Warbringers contain story relevant to the Battle for Azeroth aka the expansion where the cinematics of this video came from) and those were the important ones from WoW that came to mind that you should see. There are a metric ton more cool shit from Blizzard with rest of the wow cinematics, Overwatch, and Starcraft 2... I hope I helped and that you enjoy the worlds and stories Blizzard has created for us... You should watch the World of Warcraft: Shadowlands trailer!

This expansion gave me a hole inside. I LOVED Sylvanas for so many years and to see them twist their character the way they did was mortifying. Playing as the character and following her story, building a relationship with who you think she is made this experience very immersive and all the harder to believe. We will see what they do with her in Shadowlands but I am still so conflicted with the state of the Horde right now. Seeing these all in order gives me the feels. They were able to capture the story without needing to give everything that is happening in the quest line for context.

dang man, you should look up "the old soldier" cinematic from wow, this gives so much context but also the animated and the game engine cienmatics, I believe there's a full playlist of the battle for azeroth story cienamtics.

Her backstory is: She was an elf part of the Alliance and she died protecting her home only to be resurrected as a banshee. She joined the Horde, years passed and she became the leader of the Horde. All these cinematics happen while she is leading the Horde.

If you're at all interested about the characters and the surrounding lore of the world they exist in, I'd highly recommend Nobbel87. He's a RU-vidr that goes in-depth about the stories about individual characters, but also much larger subjects as well, such as the creation of the Warcraft universe!

In reference to "The cool sword with the circle" It's called Shallamayne, it belonged to his dad and it's a magical weapon that was made my merging 2 swords together. The person who is wielding it can split the sword back into the 2 that forged it whenever they wish! :)

I play these games. I love their cinematic's. Isn't it amazing that these game makers make small movies? We WoW players have been clamoring for Blizzard to make a CGI movie for years. You went over Diablo VII, and now WoW, and I am elated you can point out all the details.

To answer some of your lore questions: - The badass chick is Sylvanas Windrunner, a former elf and reagent general of her people, was killed and resurrected as a banshee (her banshee form is shown when she screams and kills a whole bunch of soldiers) and is now the leader of the undead race (part of the Horde). She is a master tactician and fighter and is not bound by common morality. The ends justifies the means. - The human king is Anduin Wrynn (aka the boy king), leader of the humans (part of the Alliance) recently took the mantle of king after his father died (Varian Wrynn, a very powerful warrior). He is a priest and you can see him using a priest ability called Mass Resurrection to revive his army at 5:00 and is inexperienced in leadership and his advisor (Genn Greymane, the wolf you see at his side) tries to influence the king's decisions. - The Horde is a faction composed of the following races: Orcs, Undead, Trolls, Taurens, Blood Elves, Goblins and Pandarens (neutral race that could be part of either faction) - The Alliance is a faction composed of the following races: Humans, Dwarves, Night Elves, Gnomes, Draenei, Worgen and Pandarens (neutral race that could be part of either faction) - The Horde and the Alliance, the two playable factions, are in a perpetual war over the planet of Azeroth, but occasionally join forces to defeat a common global threat. - There are no "bad" guys within the factions, it is just a matter of perspective. - The sword that split in two is called Shalamayne which is a two handed sword that can be split into two one handed swords. Shalamayne belonged to former King Varian Wrynn and is a symbol of heroism for the Alliance. Hope I answered some of your lore questions :)

Awesome reaction. But I really was hoping this included "Old soldier" (Chronological speaking it takes place right before the first cinematic, but was released halfway) as it gives a pretty good insight into Saurfang (the grey haired Orc) and is my second favorite after "Reckoning"(the final one). Also hoping you will react to the three "Warbringer" animations that were released as teasers for that particular expansion. Those give some backstory to some of the key figures of the expansion (including the "hot" Sylvanas Windrunner) and are awesome animations on their own...

She flew away at the end because she said in anger "horde is nothing" which hurt both sides of the war - the ones in the city orgrimmar still thought she is the leader of horde and works for the hordes best interest but when she said "the horde is nothing" everything was clear and they stopped supporting her and united with the horde outside the gates

I think you need to know that human king's sword was his father's first, who died defending all his friends due to the "traition" from Sylvanas (with the horde) in a huge battle. AND Anduin, his son (the actual king) gives it to an orc (horde guy) to fight "For Azeroth" as he says when going to fight and ends exploding after. That sword is a veeeeery huge simbol. Just for you to know :)

The cgi trailers for The Elder Scrolls: Online might be interisting as well. Impressive in their own right, crazy settings, stunts and visual effects. Keep these going! Very cool stuff and very insightful.

As far as watch order is concerned, the video titled "Varok Saurfang's Mak'gora" has them in chronological order. All of those events take place over the course of the Battle for Azeroth expansion, with Old Soldier taking place in the hours before dawn on the day of the huge battle in the main cinematic for the expansion. Sylvanas is undead, and she leads the Forsaken, one of the factions within the Horde. She was made Warchief at the start of the previous expansion. She started a massive campaign against the alliance, and her decisions in that campaign led to dissent within the ranks, which is mostly represented by Varok Saurfang, the grey-haired orc that is featured in all of those cinematics. The fortress in the last cinematic is Orgrimmar, the seat of power for the Horde. Varok has spent most of his life defending that city, which is why he's reluctant to start an all-out battle which would kill thousands of his own people on both sides. The black-haired orc that he met on the farm is Thrall, a long-standing character who was Warchief up until the end of Mists of Pandaria. They're not family, but Thrall is about the same age as Varok's son would be and their relationship has evolved from mentor/mentee to nearly father/son. Varok's son was corrupted by the Lich King and dies during that expansion, which you see a flashback to in the Old Soldier cinematic (the dead orc that he takes that bone necklace from). Anduin is the human king of the Alliance. He is probably my favorite character after Varok right now. The big takeaway from the last cinematic though, is when Sylvanas says, "The Horde is *nothing*. You are ALL nothing!". The Forsaken bannerman behind her gives a confused glance. Sylvanas does her little gloating thing, knowing she's played her last card. The small part of the Horde that's still loyal to her up to this point realizes that she's been toying with everyone the whole time, and the reasoning behind it is spelled out in the Shadowlands introductory material. Basically, she serves a greater power whose only goal was to break down the process of life and death itself. She heads straight to Northrend from here, to the other cinematic starring Sylvanas that you watched in the Lich King episode where she kicks his ass and opens a rift above the frozen throne.

Man, I've watched some of these cinematics more than I can count, and they still make me cry every time!

You need to check out the "Burdens of Shaohao," "Lords of War," "Harbingers," and "Warbringers" on the World of Warcraft youtube channel. They are a different animation style, but they are something I think you will find interesting. I've played World of Warcraft since 2007 and then they first starting making these in 2014, it really gets you into the lore of the characters you met along the way through the different expansions.

Hi Chris, it's nice to meet you. I have been playing World of Warcraft for 16 years. My absolute favourite expansion was Wrath of the Lich King. The storyline for the Death Knight from start to finish is very interesting to me, and they were very awesome to play. In your presentation, my favourite is the Mak' Grah sequence where we see Sylvannis has a new power when she kills Saurfang

Quick few things about some of the characters. The elf is Sylvanas she was killed by the former Lich King Arthas when he attacked her homeland and was raised as a banshee to serve his undead army. Later she was able to break free when the Lich king was in a weakened state and helped many other undead become free. Arthas also killed the orc Saurfang's son, fun fact his sons final words were "Let it be finished." When Arthas was later defeated; Saurfang reclaimed his sons pendent the one shown on his body at the end. These two characters have been connected since their very early days in Warcrafts long storyline going on 25 years long.

The earlier Horde leader was Voljin (a Troll) and when he was dying he heard a whisper that he thought to be from a Loa (Troll god) that told him to make Sylvanas the new leader of the Horde. So Sylvanas was the new leader but she started directing the Horde towards activities that is not in the nature of the Horde. She started burning villages and killing innocent people of the Alliance where as Saurfang (the old orc) is the army general since long and by nature of the actual Horde he believes in face to face combat where both sides are prepared and not in cheap tricks that Sylvanas was involved into. Hence he wanted to reveal the truth of Sylvanas to the Horde which he did and he had to die for that.

Oh brother, you have no idea just how big this game is, and the lore within it - incredible story telling! Loads of great cinematic in each expansion too.

In fact one of the biggest sources of controversy in these cinematics is that they treat her like a mustache-twirling super-villain. As for her story? Her story is a story of rape, torture, and slavery, as well as death and disease. The things she has endured are horrific in scope. EDIT: After watching more of the video, I saw your desire to know more so I'll elaborate. Sylvanas was the defender of the elves, her people. Together, the elves created an enchanted and magical land of perpetual autumn, and she led its armies. Then the undead came, led by a fallen hero. With this army came a wave of disease and decay. Sylvanas fought bravely and even burned her own lands to stop the undead, but it wasn't enough. At the elven capital of Silvermoon, the fallen hero caught her... ... Now, this is a kids game, so the creators can't mention things like rape or molestation without compromising the ratings, but that is basically what happened between her and the fallen hero. He stabbed her with his sword, violated her soul, and turned her into a powerful banshee. She became a fallen hero like him but enslaved to his will, and led the undead army against her own people. She was forced to murder innocents with her own hands, and although she struggled she could not break free of his control. Eventually, his power weakened and she escaped, but by then it was far too late. Her people were dead, over 90% of them, and their once pristine lands were desecrated. With nothing left, she swore revenge and freed other undead slaves and named them the "Forsaken". Both she, and her new people have been forever scarred. They are ageless undead and are free to pursue intellectual and artistic pursuits until the end of time, but they are also hideous to look upon and diseased. Sylvanas leads them and consoles them and they love her as their Dark Queen... ...Or at least they did until she suddenly became a mustache-twirling super-villain and flew away. It was very sudden and strange.

I just recently found your channel and my god i love your unbiased opinions to this. I haven’t looked over all your wow videos but if you haven’t done cataclysm, please do! I need to see more of these. These trailers still give me chills like when i first watched them. Do please try to get into the lore afterwards, its lore in amazing.

There is an old soldier cinematic that is the morning before the first battle you see in this set. All of the cuts ends for this universe have amazing storytelling.

Ok im really getting to love you channel. It's awesome getting to see the perspective from someone who works in the industry showing how much work this takes. Us as players have a tendency to take for granted the amount of work involved in the game. Even in the cinematics sometimes. You bringing out the level of detail put into these is just awesome! The bubble that Anduin is creating is actually a "Mass Resurrection" spell. Essentially everyone that has died that is within range he brought back to life. Shalamayne, the sword with he orb effect, was the weapon of the previous King of Stormwind Varian Wyrnn. He died saving the last stand of the Alliance Army in the previous expansion from The Burning Legion. Essentially Hell's army, if you will. The sword has a conscious presence itself and can split in two if the sword decides that the wielder is worth of its power. In a nutshell.

Sylvanas Windrunner's story is incredibly sad and tied to Arthas Menethil's story, later known as The Lich King which also is a very sad story. She was a Blood elf ones, now she's a banshee, leader of the Undead (also known as the Forsakens) and she became War Chief of the Horde after the former, Vol'jin, died from his wounds in the battle against the Legion and Gul'dan. Battle during which the King Varian Wyrnn also died heroically, killed by Gul'dan himself (to bad the cinematic for that battle was not CGI like those ones if I remember correctly). His son, Anduin Wyrnn, that you saw in those cinematics then took the lead of the Alliance. As you saw the movie, interesting thing is that Thrall, the Orc Saurfang "visited" is a former War Chief of the Horde (the best of all... Thrall for ever) and he is the baby Orc you see in the movie Warcraft, the son of Durotan. He was named Thrall by humans, the name his parents (Durotan and Draka) gave him was Go'el. The LORE of Warcraft and WoW is VERY rich and complex. Blizzard is the BEST to make incredible cinematics, there's tones from WoW, but the Overwatch ones are also great. Even people not into gaming can watch them and still love them.

When you see sylvanas's banshee form for the first time, a shiver went down my spin, it still happens.

The cool orb-sword is his father's :-) he died last add-on and ever since young king Anduin tries to live up to his deeds (which he can't, because his father was quite a fighter and Anduin isn't and probably will neber be). I'm so happy, that these cinematics have such a great impact on people not familiar with the story, though

its insane how when sylvannas turns into the banshee and lets out a shriek and then yells "for the horde" i still get goosebumps on both parts. and im a diehard alliance player. it was just so amazing

if i remember correctly the necklace the guy was wearing was his friends necklace who died during the 3rd great war. he's a veteran of the 3rd great war which could be why sylvanas called him "old soldier"

The cinematic that are a lot more well fleshed out mainly start from Wraith of the Lich King, Warlords of Draenor, Mists of Pandaria, Legion, and than this was Battle for Azeroth, they also have a new one for an upcoming expansion which is called Shadowlands.

Story of the elf chick (short version): Her name is Sylvanas Windrunner and she was a high elf general. Her people got attacked by Arthas (the lich king) and she died in battle. Arthas personally resurrected her as an undead. After leaving the high elf kingdom Arthes lost his grasp over the undead there and the undead slowly gained back their will. Sylvanas, now leader of the forsaken (the undead that regained thier will) , remembered the fall of her kingdom and sought revenge on Arthas. For a long time she had been plotting but eventually she was not the one to deal the killing blow and she commited suicide because she thought she had no purpose. Then she found out how terrifying death was and managed to come to life once more. Now she made a deal with death: she gains more power if she takes more lives. She eventually became the warcief of the horde and fought a war with the alliance with her own hidden agenda. This is an very simplified story but it is not so complex.

I also suggest you check these out, also by Blizzard: Overwatch shorts: Recall Alive Dragons Hero The Last Bastion Infiltration Rise and Shine Honour and Glory Shooting Star Reunion There's a lot, I know but they are 100% worth watching since you liked these Warcraft cinematics.

About those dark stains under her eyes, they are actually her tears which were "burned" on her face when she was killed by Arthas (the Lich King), when she was defending her ppl. In this moment she became Banshee (thats why she got this second "ghost" form which u can see on a first trailer)

Is it just me or is there more punch to her shouting "FOR THE HORDE!" than there is him shouting "For the Alliance!"? I don't know what it is, but her shout feels more primal and awe-inspiring while his feels kind of cliche.

Hey chris this is a little lore on the weapon that the king guy has its the greatsword that breaks into 2 swords, so how he breaks it is that he needs willpower/magic to break the 2 swords apart b/c they are magically fused together. So much to tell: There are two Fractions which you have to Join in the game - Horde or Alliance. Each fraction has different races ro play. To the chars: Suarfang the Orc you see in every Cinematic lost his son, he loved the horde, it was his home and his honor. He always wanted to die a honorable Death after his son died before him. The little Troll is new in the Game - Zehkhan. He is something like a "son" for Saurfang, and he sees Saurfang as a father figure, his real father died but he was telling Zekhan a lot over Saurfang, he was a hero for the young troll. Sylvanas was a highelf and first the ranger-general of Silvermoon(a elvencity) - she got Killed by Arthas, the same guy who killed Saurfangs son (more or less). After that Arthas, the lichking raised her Soul as the Banshee-Queen (that was when she turned black and screaming on the tower that she bring to explode). She was after freeing herself of beeing a puppet to arthas and became the leader of the forsaken (reborn Undead Humans made by Arthas as well and some other undead races too). Thrall (The Orc with the Cornfield) was a Leader of the Horde- but after some Shit happend he go with his wife and children in the world where the Orc originally came from. The Orcs Once escaped this world because it was almost dead and shattered - but he returned. But on the corns that fell apart, youll see how much broken it is. (and the flying rock-pieces). The Dude in the Lionsplate is Anduin Wrynn, Son of King Varian Wrynn, who died in the Battle of the Burning Legion (more or less a Demon-Armoy that wants to destroy and twist the World named Azeroth). He was killed after his last heroic act by Gul'Dan - who brought the Horde into the World of Azeroth and work together with the Burning legion. (But theres some time-Travel stuff going on- too much to take it now) The Wolf Dude is a good friend of varian and also Anduin, Genn Greymane - the King of Gilneas, which was conquered by Sylvanas and she also killed his son before his eyes. Thats for some details to the chars, the lore is rich and deep and really conected between the characters.
