Fils De Dieu Du Riz Et Des Agrumes by Etat Libre d'Orange Fragrance / Cologne Review 

Hi! I recently discovered this fragrance as I was always curious about Etat Libre d’Orange. I saw another reviewer mention this as originally (and controversially) named, “Filipino Houseboy”. I am a filipino myself and my first reaction was not to be offended but rather be curious as to the intention and what the whole fragrance house was all about. Personally, I don’t smell much of filipino savoury cooking. It smells more of asian ricecakes with a predominant pandan scent. Pandan is a plant that is used as an aroma enhancer or as a neutraliser to some strong spices in Asian dishes. To filipinos, it is treated more like a dessert. In general though, i could smell Thai soup with lemongrass and coriander. It also has that rice powdery smell that makes me feel like i’m in a rural area where rice dishes are served with pandan or banana leaves. I do agree that this fragrance is more of a personal than a social one as others may not understand the notes. I have been using it right after shower when i want to feel fresh and cozy. If you are a true niche collector, this is something worth checking out!

I just blind bought a full bottle at a really good price. So I had to look for videos to validate my thoughts. Haha! This is delightfully unusual, but not to the point of being weird smelling. The juxtaposition between sweet,creamy,pretty elements and dry leathery elements is so interesting. I love when my nose and brain are conflicted and this does it. It reminds me of a lighter, less serious version of Shalimar . When it is further into the skin scent phase of the dry down, it reminds me a bit of Hypnotic Poison (but better...HP and I don't get along).

I live in an urban neighborhood so it's very convenient for me. It's also a plus that I'm only a 15 minute train ride from New York City.

Haha I was just honest in that video! And sometimes I wear fragrances for myself and educate my nose, not only for compliments.. I guess we're all a little like that, it's always good to put your nose on different accords and notes
