Using a low cost Vinbrite Mark III filter with a minor modification does a great job for affordable wine filtering. I also show why you should always pay attention as I spray red wine all over white bricks, the floor and a wall. PBW does an amazing job at removing the red wine to avoid major stains and kept my wife from getting upset about the mess I made. I also show why what corking equipment you buy really matters when trying to cork wine bottles.

Red Wine California Merlot aged on medium toasted American Oak which tastes amazing. Also knowing I only paid about $3.33 a bottle for this stuff plus my hard work makes the wine taste even better.

As one beer brewing talking to another, you would be shocked at just how easy it is to make wine using any of the kits. This Merlot kit was amazing and came out great but as I mentioned I would let it age on the oak from the beginning and give it a few extra weeks before you prepare to move it to bottles. If you choose a white go for one of the gray boxes "Winmaker's reserve" or better as it appears the less water you have to add the better the chances of the finished wine from what I've read but the merlot was what I would call a mid grade and tasted awesome. Good Luck, your wife will appreciate it a great deal plus you will be amazed at how easy it is compared to beer brewing.

amzn.to/2IaUSZM - This is the kit I use in the video and love it as I use it all the time which comes with a power brick and an on/off switch. If you have a wand, tubing and are good with wiring this is a cheaper version with just the pump but of course would require everything else to setup - amzn.to/3dbmvNz

Have you ever had a wine bottle explode without the sterile filtration? Is 1 micron enough to ensure microbial stability?

It worked great for me and I'm still drinking that wine over two years later and it still tastes great. The key to those filters, is VERY SLOW and steady. Supposedly you can wash and reuse but I wouldn't recommend it as the fiber is a lot like paper and I don't think it would hold up well the second time around. Shockingly that was a cheap Merlot and it is still one of my favorites.

Do you have to sterilise the vinbrite filter?

No, they come in sealed packages but the instructions if I remember right was to run clean water through them for a certain amount of time before starting the filtering. I have seen where some people will spray them with diluted Star San and then rinse them. Once you use a filter, just throw it away as they are made of a fiber that is a lot like paper so you don't want to even attempt at reusing them.
