Watch as Davin shows you how to use the Harris Filters Vinbrite Filter kit.
This filter is great for making a crystal clear and clean home made wine.
Even if you have used finings and think you wine is perfectly clear, there is still a lot of particulate matter suspended in your wine.
You'll be surprised how much the filter catches and even more surprise at the before and after taste.
The Harris Vinbrite Filter makes a huge difference to the finished wine, improving it's flavour, mouthfeel and crispness.
Removing the impurities that are masking all the delicate flavours in the wine really lets you taste the wine as it should be.
Buy your Harris Vinbrite Filter and filter pads on our Brewbitz Homebrew webstore - www.brewbitz.com/products/har....
If you are in the UK and need any ingredients, then please support our website and buy your brewing ingredients and brewing equipment from us at www.brewbitz.com

I used my auto-siphon to prime the filter, for filling. It works easily! 🍷

Putting a flexible plastic tube from the exit spout on the filter to the bottom of the carboy will reduce the amount of air that gets into the wine and reduce oxidization.

Yep, this is something we do. We also gave a support for buckets and the filtered wine runs down the support and then down the inside of the bucket.

Is that bucket you are filtering ready for bottling or are you transferring to carboy for secondary fermentation

Hi great video One problem for me is my filter looks exactly like yours but doesn't have the second hole for the little tube and tap what should I do?
@Brewbitz

There are a couple of different filters out there. You’ll need to find the instructions. Google is an amazing tool. Somewhere on your filter should be an embossed name or product number. Good luck.

Your middle screw on wheel you mentioned said one side face the pad and the other side face the paper. But there was no paper? Is that just an additional filter you can add?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 3 года назад
Yes. Thats if you used a paper filter instead of the polishing filter.

Should you filter blackberry wine? I am trying my first batch of wine from blackberries from my backyard however your video on blackberry wine didnt show it being filtering...
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 5 лет назад
Hi. This was a video showing how to filter wine. Yes, you can filter your wine if you want. This will remove invisible sediment still in the wine and mean if you leave a bottle for a long time, there will be no sediment in the bottle. We also think it hells remove that yeasty flavour you can get when making a hedgerow wine.

Hi, I am looking to filter homemade liqueurs so peach liqueurs which have sediment which I want to remove and I have used nylon filters but there is always something left. Would you recommend using this to remove the final sediment?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 3 года назад
Hi liqueurs tend to be a little thick. So you could try using the harris filters on a coarse filter. Otherwise you could look at a pressure filter.

Do you need to sterilise the filter before you use it. Also what about the introduction of oxygen with the long drop to the carboy?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz Год назад
Hi. Yes you need to sterilise the filter, then add the filter pad, tuen prime the filter and then use it to filter the wine. Re the long drop, there is 2 easy options. 1 - You can put a 1/2 inch pipe on the bottom of the filter to guide the flow 2 - you can use the harris filter support if you are filtering into a bucket and the wine flows down the support and then down the side of the bucket - www.brewbitz.com/collections/filters-straining/products/harris-filters-vinbrite-filter-support Cheers & hope this helps.

Question for anyone: When your wine has finished filtering, there is liquid left in the Harris filter.... does that eventually drain out? I have removed both tubing in the hopes that it would but it doesn't seem to be happening. Do I chalk this little bit up to loss?

Hi, nice vids. I like the harris filter, but it has a flaw that when the wine is filtering through, it drops quite a fair bit, which aerates the wine on the drop which we do not want. Is there a fix for this ?
@robertharris7253
@robertharris7253 6 лет назад
Hi, there is an accessory for the vinbrite filter which is a support bracket to avoid this problem, this is available from your homebrew shop.
@petersteadman841
@petersteadman841 2 года назад
Hi, I was also worried about oxygen getting in to my brew when the filtered wine splashes in to the collection vessel. I read your response about the extra bracket and fail to see how it helps. Could you please explain further? I like the idea but the aeration thought is putting me off buying. Thank you, love the video too. 👍
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 2 года назад
The wine runs down the bracket and then down the side of the bucket. This helps prevent splashing and so minimises chance of oxygen getting into your wine. You could also purge your receiving bucket with co2. This pushes out the air and O2 above it so again prevents oxygen coming into contact with the filtered wine. Hope this helps

Which pad do you need to use as this kit comes with 3 different ones. Filtered my kit but still cloudy.
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz Год назад
If it is still cloudy, has it finished fermenting? check it has finished fermenting with a hydrometer. If it has finished fermenting, was the pad fitted correctly? The flow should be slow just a bit more than a drip. Is it a pectin or protein haze? Filters won't clear this. If it is a fruit or starchy vegetable wine, did you use pectolase (fruit) / Amylase (vegetable) to break down the pectin / starch? If not, this could be your problem. Hope this helps

I have the Vinbrite filter came with 3 different pads but does not tell use how to use each pad or which one to choose.
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 7 лет назад
We use the thick pads that come out of the pad refill pack, these: www.brewbitz.com/1-posters/68-harris-filters-crystalbrite-pads.html If you have three thicknesses then I guess they are for different types of wine. For example if you have a wine that's very nearly clear then use the thinner ones. If you have a heavy wine that needs a lot more clearing then maybe the thickest one would be best. Hope that helps.

Why is it necessary to prime the filter?
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 2 года назад
Sometimes there can be particles on the filter pad that you want to make sure it doesn’t get into your wine, so quick flush through get rid of any of those. Hope this clarifies

I really hate the way it splashes. Are sterile filter pads available for this type of filter? .45 micron is the size.
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 7 лет назад
Marauder623 you could attach a tube to the outlet, so it doesn't splash. Here are the filter pads www.brewbitz.com/125-posters/68-harris-filters-crystalbrite-pads.html

We also have the filter attachment that allows you to use it in a bucket, and the filter fits in, so that it runs down the bracket to the side of the bucket, preventing splashing - www.brewbitz.com/collections/filters-straining/products/harris-filters-vinbrite-filter-support Cheers

Did you need to change the pad for this much wine?
@Brewbitz

seattwa it depends if has cleared well. Sometimes 1 pad is fine. Others, if you have disturbed the sediment then it can take multiple pads.

Hi yes. as there could be bacteria on it that can cause your wine to turn to vinegar.
@debonpanton3366
@debonpanton3366 19 часов назад
You lost me at the point when you had to suck on the filter in order to prime the filter. There MUST be a better way to do that. Also, seems that the wine is being aeriated while it is flowing into the carboy.
@Brewbitz
@Brewbitz 16 часов назад
You can use an auto syphon to start the flow f you do not want to suck on the vent tube. This is how the filter comes. You can attach a tube to the output so it flows down the tube to help prevent aeration. There is an attachment for buckets, but not carboys. Hope this helps
