How I hooked up an inexpensive pool filter to work with my kids $25 inflatable kiddie pool. Trying to help other parents to avoid some of the frustrations and pitfalls that I had and show them how I got it to work.
The pump used:
Intex Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 1000 GPH Pump Flow Rate, 110-120V with GFCI www.amazon.com...
The filters for it (1 included).
Intex Type A Filter Cartridge for Pools, Twin Pack www.amazon.com...

You're not an idiot. I'm trying to figure out my son's pool also. It's gonna be up a few months and really went to keep it as clean as possible for him. Great job.

Don't forget to shock your pools weekly or as needed! It's concentrated chlorine to help keep your free chlorine levels up.

This is a great idea. I'm planning to get a BOYU filter for the same purpose. ( Though they were made for big fish tanks and ponds) It comes with a built in UV Bio Filter that's supposed to kill bacteria etc. Cheers Rob.

Great advice! It seems they’ve changed the price to $170.. I don’t want to spend more than probably $75 on a filter right now. Although I only spent $35 on the pool- it’s 8 x 8 x 3! I think I may try a filter for a stock pond like one of the other comments suggested because they are cheaper and see where it leads me, along with the floating small chlorine tablets and the testing strips. Last summer I just constantly emptied a different small blow up pool and ended up not using it much because it was such a process to keep up with. My hope is that we can get one set up and empty it monthly if needed but not more. Anymore advice is appreciated!

Thanks for this! A good way weigh the outflow hose is to wrap an ankle weight around it. You can usually find them at second hand stores.

I actually saw another video of a woman using this method but she put a 1inch PVC pipe into the outtake with holes cut in. This kept the hose in. Do you need to keep this running 24/7?

We bought this kind and thought we did not have the hose clamps but it was there all along, it's plastic looks like a letter "C" and you just have to bend it to fit the round hose...who knew ? My husband and were looking for a metal circular looking clamp. A youtube video helped us .Thanks for sharing your video.

I'm planning on doing the same thing next week. I have to order the filter from amazon. Do you think I should look for a more powerful filter because I heard you say it doesn't pull out certain garbage from the kiddie pool? I want to also make a shower or sprinkler over the pool for the kids using PVC and the filter pump as the engine to move the water about 4-5 feet high and come out over the middle of the pool.

Great! Nice life hack! Lead dive belt weights wouldn't rust, they're designed for use underwater, but not everyone has those lying around... You sound like a cool dad! I thought about getting a small pool for the backyard to sort of chill in.... us mermaids can't always get to the sea and the local pools are mostly closed now. PS: mermaiding is fun for all ages, but if your kids decide to do it, supervise at all times. It's safe if done right.

Hi, I tried to implement your advice, but my pump never triggers completely and there is always a bit of air in the pipes preventing me from sucking in and injecting a good quantity of water into the pool ... could you give me some further advice on how to trigger the pump or put a video where you trigger the pump. Thanks in advance
@robcarter6599
@robcarter6599 4 года назад
fabio mancin Hi there. Believe it or not, the day that I put this video up, a friend had been gifted a pool from somebody else so they gave us their bigger pool so I no longer have our set up. But I can tell you that you do not want to have the pump turned on until the intake hose is completely filled with water and submerged into the pool water. The purpose of keeping the garden hose in the end of it until it’s down into the pool water is so that there is a minimal amount of air. I had someone standing by the outlet to plug it in at just the right moment as I was submerging into the pool. I hope that helps
@JeffWeidman
@JeffWeidman 4 года назад
Put your garden hose a foot up the intake hose. Turn faucet on. Make sure all the air bubbles come out of the discharge hose. Power on the pump and let it run a minute. Then, SLOWLY, remove the garden hose. The suction should continue. This is what i do as its hard for me to corral the family into helping me prime it. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I tried to reply to you the other night and my family was asleep nearby and it started the video. You still need to add chlorine to it to actually kill the bacteria. Get a pool test kit to know if you are using enough. I’d start with a cup. With the right level of chlorine and the filter it should clear up in a couple days.
